How do you get Gods to help you, or you help them?

Well, for Jason, it was getting access to the newest game pod technology. Special Race? Why not. Unknown Questlines? A staff that he thinks is so overpowered that he doesn’t even want to chance casting it? Sure. Multiple women, who aren’t even human? Yes please!

Jason just wanted to build a cabin in the woods in the newest VRMMORPG. But apparently, the “Gods” of this game had other plans for him. Adventure awaits for no one, especially when it’s coming to look for you.

Follow Jason as he explores this new World called Destiny, and see if it’s namesake is what he has been waiting for all his life. But what the real Gods have in store for him isn’t what he expected

Jason Morgan hates his life.

Three years ago, a car accident landed him in a wheelchair. After two experimental surgeries, he still can’t walk. Now, broke, and living as a ward of the State, Jason wants nothing more than to walk again and to get out of this hellhole of a hospital.

Enter Games For Life, a gaming company that runs a massive VRMMORPG system. They invite Jason to test their groundbreaking pod technology. In their gaming World Destiny, time and reality are not what they seem. There, Jason can even walk again! What could possibly go wrong?

Maybe Jason should have read the fine print on the contract a little more closely…

Pass this up

I hate having to bash a fellow Tandy owner, but I have no choice.

I can't recommend this book to anyone except an English writing teacher to show what not to do.

The grammar in this book was atrocious. Constantly switching back and forth from present tense to past tense. I.e. The nurse smiled at me. I say hello.

The exposition sounds like a shy teenager with social anxiety problems or is a data dump that no one in reality would actually say.

To the author: it is thAn!!! Not thEn!

Horrible. Couldn't take it anymore at about 30%.

Stopped at 30%. The MC is the stupidest idiot in creaton. He has the mental acuity and maturity of a spoiled retarded 4 year old. After something is explained to him in great detail he asks the same idiotic question again, he panics for nothing even after having more undeserved advantages than he should, he is supposed to be a experienced gamer but acts as a total retarded noob. No! Absolutely not worth the time and frustration.

*Audiobook review*
I could not finish this horrible piece of work.
Have you every played a MMORPG with a custom character section and say "hey, you know what would be great? If can just stay here building and moding my character and never play the game
for forever", because that is about 2 hours plus of the audiobook and I can only imagine the eye bleeds and total boredom a reader would have to go through. Seriously, it was two whole hours of a horny teen's nonsensical drivel. Lately, a lot of Litrpg MC are following an archetype of a a dumb meat head without an active brain that zones out thinking of the most dumbest things during battles or circuital moments. The MC is a is paraplegic that has been given a harsh hand with no real future and all that awaits him is thoughts of suicide. However, he has been picked to be a beta tester for the first ever immersion pod. By this point, for some of our readers, this trope is almost an old hat. It was this or truck-kun knocking on his door. So you have a very bitter and broken man that gets an offered a ton of money, free penthouse condo, a pod with a time dilation ability (half a year = one year). Yes, you heard me, he gets to spend ten year of his life just playing a game with swords and magic. Sounds good right? I bet most of you are willing to sell your first born to be in his shoes right? NOT THIS GUY. See, MC retard signed but never read the contact. So after he rolls into his luxury super mansion, meeting a Shigeru Miyamoto type hero game dev he gets into his pod and then starts the hour and a half of griping. He complains about everything to everyone and his lawyer friend. Boo hoo i have to play this game for 10 years, WHAT? I get to be a DRAGON ANGEL hybrid? My A.I guide is a sentient and her boob gravity mechanics is too real? AND the sentient sexy AI guide that wears all leather with big boobs is going to follow me around (and you know they get to be part of the love interests and future harem member? and so on and so on. The book is just the MC complaining that he won the lottery. The whole story was pretty much written by a horny weeb that thinks having katanas are "AWESOME!", big boob blonds is his go to jerk off dream girl and he is THAT GUY in every D&D that makes the impossible characters that is some sort of superman that has ability and class of a god. I hope you guys now know what this whole train wreck is all about now. Seriously, I had to stop because the MC and his Side kick/ prime harem member, kept calling the for the main A.I. for guidance. An hour of MC and his partner calling for his/her "DAD", "MOM", "GAME DEV" and "LAWYER" drove me insane.

Wish i checked out some of the multiple reviews of this book before i started reading. Its incredible just how stupid the MC is.
The MC doesn't work for anything he gets given every advantage because of contrived reasons. A OP MC is ok if he is cool. This guy is the opposite of that. He gets offered a special race because he's the first one out of god knows how many people to ask for it. THIS IS RETARDED! The race he gets is half dragon half angel. Its like a bad fanfiction.

Half the book is people talking about contracts, character creation and everyone saying how special the mc is and giving him free shit for nothing. And thats how much i could stomach before i put this down. DO NOT BUY this piece of crap.

An amazingly timid clueless wanker joins a deep immersion MMO. He is so timid and dumb that it immediately was a huge turn off.

As soon as he gets in the game he asks about 'half races' and then the whole world is shown as dumb because - despite a thousand or so gamers going in before him - nobody has asked about that before. Nobody. Not even for the very famous (within gaming circles and I don't know... Tolkien?) a 'half elf'.

DNF. I have to have some liking for the MC or why bother hearing his story?

Do not know how this book as a overall rating of 4.5 stars.. Really don't. People giving 5 star reviews (Just because) i guess.
Its ... sad really. The Author seems to forget what he said in the paragraph before..
(Example.. MC comes out .. Asks everyone if they ate.. They said yes.. Then just a paragraph later he's pulling out food for everyone to eat breakfast)....... Things like that are pretty.. Common.

Its not just this series this Author does it in his other book series.. In another he and his woman rush in to kill the bad guys.. Finds out from some guy who is dying before they attack.. That there is some Girl held hostage.. So they rush in kill all the bad guys in a hurry so they can save this girl... And poof.. Not another word is said about her. Nothing.. Its like she simply doesn't exist in the story any longer. They did not save her.. There is ZERO mention of her after the guy dies. LOL

Then we get into the MC's character Flaws.. And there are many.. Moron (MC's name here on out) cant seem to hold it together .. Everything is a emergency and when something unexpected comes along.. (With the pacing of this .. Its like every other second) he looses his mind and panics.

..................Thumbs down
This author is now on my Do not bother reading list.
I gave his books a honest shot.

Note: I listened to an audiobook but as that edition is not currently listed on Goodreads.com I am placing my review here.

This book is pretty well written but has huge plot issues: Primarily, it lacks any story resolution but it also wastes time on meaningless setup. A lot of time is spent on establishing the MC as bedridden and bitter, but so what? The MC is offered $500,000 a year to play a game. Who wouldn’t take that? The MC’s state of mind is also used to explain why he doesn’t read his employment agreement. I was a lawyer for 20 years and I can tell you the vast majority of people don’t read the agreements they sign. If the agreement is important enough to involve a lawyer, they rely on the lawyer. If an agreement isn’t that important they rely on the representations of whoever wrote the agreement. So why did the author spend so much time on this meaningless stuff? I have no idea. I can only guess he considered it character development for the MC but if that is the best the author can do along those lines he frankly shouldn’t be writing. Its not that what was written was bad so much as pointless.

So in this book we are told about the MC’s crappy life due to a car accident but that the MC is super special due to ability to synch exceptionally well with VR. This synch ability gets the MC an over paid job playing VR games, MC enters VR, discovers actual AIs exists, walks to town, receives several huge boons and gains several female companions, leaves town to build a cabin. The end, except for a twist. That twist, however, provides no story resolution and goes a long way toward invalidating the story the author just wasted readers’ time with. I’ll avoid specifics so I don’t believe this counts as a spoiler: The twist is: you know that game you think you are playing, MC? Well here’s the real story...

Bottom line: While the portion of the story that is present in this book is pretty well told, this author needs to figure out how to plot his books so they actually provide story resolution. Until that time no one should waste money on books that are actually installments.

The MC spends most of the book talking about women and their breasts if he isn't being praised as a genius for introducing the sleeping bag or shower. I'm almost done listening to the audiobook and the mc has spent the whole time in the starting town picking up women to join his harem without meaning to while still being a moron. Basically, he's the western version of the meek clueless Japanese Iseki protagonist. Oh and don't forget the silly and stupidly overpowered cheat item and skills he must get as an MC. I was expecting a slice of life about building a cabin and the small adventures involved just living in an MMO would create instead it's nothing but harem garbage.

Too much explaining

I abandoned this at 25% as I was feeling cranky. I found the over explanation of everything frustrating. By this stage the MC had not done anything in the game world, it was all signing an NDA and class creation. Now this is oversimplification but this story was pretty standard trope for this genre and there was no need to bog everything down.

3.75 Stars, pretty good, not a 4 star but close and if the series continues than it could be a 4 star series. It is mostly a setup/start up book so nothing big happens but great base for the next book. Some may find it slow and sometimes things come easy for the MC but all in all I still liked it.

I enjoyed it

It was a good read, however the other describes himself and credits a lot of stuff but I dont feel he credited the one person he needed to. Reading this, I couldn’t help but see the similarities between this and Daniel Schinhofen’s “Alpha World” series. He doesnt copy or plagiaries, but there is a lot of similarities. I still enjoyed the book and look forward to more.

DNF at 27%. Besides the low-key lustful atmosphere, the story and its characters felt very YA. I got incredibly frustrated with the MC. He's very slow to adapt to new information. The final nail in the coffin was when I realized I was about a quarter of the way through the book, and we were still in the introduction phase.

To create a VR game that would be indistinguishable from RL. This is Dr. Phillip's dream. Sigma Worlds was the result. Jason’s lawyer, Michael argued for Jason to sign the contract with GFL International. Jason was disabled from an auto accident and allowed an opportunity to beta test a new VRMMORPG, including a five hundred thousand dollar yearly salary. Jason scored very high on their BAS, Brain Activity Sync, making Jason a pet project of Dr. Phillips. With the time desync between Sigma Worlds and Earth, Jason would be in Simga for ten years. Jason was on his way, entering the pod system, and joining the game. Jason Dragonheart, a hybrid dragon/summoner, enters the game. Jason was contacted by the gods of Sigma, again due to his high BAS score, granting him boons right from the beginning, pushing him to level ten before he could assign any points. OP from the start, but he is Dr. Phillip's pet adventurer. Jason’s first quest is from the gods themselves. Save the sentient AI beings by allowing them to coexist with Earth peacefully. Not too outrageous, eh? With Jason’s prior Earth knowledge he had several times gone outside the game mechanics to create new options, skills, equipment, and supplies, granting him additional benefits. The “assistant”, Diana assigned to him by the gods gives him even more benefits. The amplified “overpoweredness” of his build by the time he gets out of training is ludicrous. As the story continues, Jason acquires master-level companions; Rasha, Rena, Jasmine, Tatania, and Meisha who bond themselves to him. In the conclusion, he was a Demi-god with sixty-three points unassigned. Jason’s rationalization of this situation is that he came to Sigma to relax and enjoy life, contrary to his life on Earth, not grind and struggle to level up. Jason was confused about his relationships with women on Sigma; he would not act this way with women on Earth. Fear not, Jason, you are acting normal, if not naive at times. It’s the women that are more open and honest; quite different than women on Earth. I truly like the story, the characters, and the narrator very much, but it is hard to abide by the OP situation of the main character. This concept by some authors leaves no competition, no risk. The game would never survive pre-release reviews.

Not great and not bad

So this was a decent book. Not super stat heavy for litrpg however the system was not fleshed out very much. There was certainly the description of the VR system but the ingame/world itself mechanics were Sparks at best. General character development was very slow and the MC is a whiny one always wanting to call his lawyer. Some of the secondary characters needs a little more work and of course everything seems to fall into the MC' lap. Though that was somewhat explained at the end. Though I suspected something was up because of the early foreshadowing the end of the book did have a nice twist that might Make some future fun. I may read the second book to see if there is any improvement in the MC and character development department..

Audiobook review:

Faaaaaaaaaahk.
You will love this book if you are a horny 14 year old hetero boy with a limited imagination and a passing acquaintance with real life interactions.
60% of this story seems to be objectifying female characters, all who have large breasts unless they're not super attractive, in which case they're not so large.
No...i don't want to get bogged down in the magic system, I don't want an adventure, obviously I just want to read about a stupid protagonist building his harem.
I feel sorry for the narrator.

The only good thing about this book is it's length. Terribly short.

This is the second book by this author that I’ve read and I’m impressed. I read this one in one sitting. It kept me involved. This book introduces you to the characters and the world and gives you an idea on what direction the series is going to take. There isn’t much harem stuff in it but it is definitely the beginning of one. Truthfully I don’t need that to keep me involved but it’s not a game changer for me either way. I. Definitely recommend this book!!

A Player who cares for the NPC's

The MC is a guy with nothing left after years in a hospital living as a paraplegic. His friend and lawyer helps him get to be a Beta tester for a new game and after fighting it decides he has nothing to lose.
In the game he does things not as the game was designed for and....

I advise reading and seeing for yourself. The ending is crazy & I have to see whats next.

The only criticism I have is that it's too short. I was really getting into it, looking forward to what came next, and then it ended! So I had to buy the next book.

From the first book it is definitely a harem book, but it feels like a city builder as well, even if none of it gets built in the first book. It's all world building, relationship building, and setting the stage. But it's an interesting stage.

Almost all (if not all) of D. Levesque's books I've enjoyed. This was not the exception!

Well plotted. Interesting MC, as well as supporting characters. Harem elements but no sex so far (which is fine with me as I like character development and well-crafted stories above meaningless sex!).
Unique perspective in some ways.
OP MC but the author seems to be leading up to something different, so I'll give him a chance since he hasn't let me down yet!

Interesting and well written

There were few typos my main issue was the mc Jason was too op without even working at anything. It felt like the bastard love child of Chatfield trapped mind project and schinhofens alpha world. It had similar tropes and ideas but it was unique at the same time.

I like this series, But I hate the mc. It's a good story line but the characters are a bit two dimensional. The protagonist wines and bitches about how everything goes his way and just wanting to build a cabin when absolutely nothing is stopping him from doing so, but that would be boring. Still, I continue to read and want to see where it goes despite how annoying the mc is.

Overall I liked this book! I liked the gameplay aspect and the connection between our world, hints at Avatar, and hints at the Matrix. One thing that I feel like it needed was if you are going to build a harem and constantly hint at how real everything is, why aren’t you having sex yet when all of these characters want to have sex with you? But again, overall this was decent.

An 8hr audio book. As far as LitRPG goes this book is kind of slow for a starting series, not to say uninteresting but not fast paced like some other action packed ones. I like what the main character is trying to do and can relate to him feeling like no matter what I do life will not give me what I want.

Great story, in need of editing. Would read again.

Great story, in need of editing. Would recommend. Disappointed that it was not longer as I felt like it ended just as it was getting to the meat of the story.

Great start!!

Enjoyed the book and can't wait for the sequel! The story progresses slowly but I believe it was done intentionally to allow us to get to know the characters and personalities. Can't wait to see where it goes.

Great first book and totally unexpected ending

So this was a pretty interesting book but it only covered about 2 days in game in over a hundred pages... Not that it was bad. Totally worth a read. We have a totally Op MC but we only have one small fight in the beginning.

Just wow

The blurb doesn't do it justice, and yeah, things fall into place easy for MC in the game, but dang, that last chapter alone bumped it from a 3 or 4 straight to 5 for all the awesomeness that now is and to come! Looking forward to book 2 as soon as I can get it.

Interesting take on the Isekai genre. Fairly in depth systems and skills, and greatly enjoyed the layers and layers of plot that is revealed so far. The book is a bit slow but is laying a good foundation. Can't wait to see what next books reveal!
