This book took me a while to finish. Not because it's bad per se, but it does require a lot of patience.
The thing is, I don't think or know, if this would even work any other way, and yet I still felt like this took way longer than some of my other reads. If you've read the blurb, you're basically perfectly prepared for the book, because there isn't much more to say about it plot vise. The whole point of the book is for August - which has the best name ever, just saying - to overcome her fear. This sounds so vague, but yeah, I don't wanna spoil you. It's 120% character driven, meaning, that if you can't stand any of the cast, you will walk away from this facepalming. Because every character you meet, is one piece in the puzzle that is this book. When you start reading you can't really see what the picture is supposed to represent, and the closer you get to the end, the more you feel like it's starting to make sense. Which is why I didn't know how I'd feel about this book until I hadn't read the very last page.
I did love the characters. The cast was great, we spend a lot of time with each of them and I enjoyed reading about everyone we came across. The platonic relationship the sisters shared was absolutly beautiful. The love side plot was really great too and I am SO GLAD that the two did not start an affair, because boy oh boy would I have been mad, if the book destroyed this cute wholesome potential that those two had going on.
Since the cast is the main focus of the book, we also tackle a variety of different topics that were mostly handeled pretty well. I really liked that, we treated those topics seriously and didn't use them for cheap D R A M A. There is also no misscommunication happening ALTHOUGH the potential for it was there. Were this book written by another author, they might have taken the cheap way out. This book however didn't go that way. Would have ruined the overall message of the book.
I know my next words are going to sound so weird, but I just need to say them, because when I first read about April, Zo & Owen, I thought, that they were having a polyamourous relationship. So to find out, that that was not the case was kinda shocking. lol. They just gave me those vibes, I don't know.
This book is all about the journey, about the people you meet along the way, about finding happiness, about finding home. And I loved that. And I do understand, that you can't just write a book about these things and be done with it in only a few pages. This needs time. Change isn't gonna happen overnight. And yet , still, there are parts in there, were you just feel how long this book is. It was absolutly worth it, and I did enjoy the book, but it's not quiet a 5 star one. At least, not for me.
I have loved everything of A.J.'s. Any review I might write would just say the same thing, over and over. "Loved it, can hardly wait for their next, highly recommended". So, consider them written!
