In this Candide-like tale of Shakespeare, sex, and the South Pacific, the acclaimed author of Enter Laughing uses engaging comedy and his real-life experiences to tell the story of a young man coming to adulthood--and stardom--during the turbulent time of World War II.

Not sure what I was expecting when I picked this off the library's discard pile, but it wasn't this. That said, I was pleasantly surprised. The character descriptions are well done, so you get a sense of what it was like to tour with the Shakespeare company, for example. While I didn't like some aspects of the military section as well (at that point, there were a lot of characters to keep track of), I did like the comedy. Interesting read.
