With the zombie apocalypse in full swing, Army veteran Lee Riker, his younger sister Tara, and their new friend, Steven “Steve-O” Piontek survive a grueling two-thousand-mile trek from the shores of Florida to the deserts of New Mexico. After outfoxing the National Guard and staying ahead of a rolling shutdown that began in New York and swept across the country at a dizzying pace, Riker’s band finally make it to their ultimate destination only to come face to face with true evil.
Days have passed and Lee Riker has a date with the court. When he calls to confirm, he gets a recording: “You have reached Santa Fe Police and Fire. Shelter-in-place order is in effect for Santa Fe proper and the surrounding communities.” Before ending the call, he hears five words that at once chill him to the bone and confirm to him the city and its first responders have fallen to the walking dead: “You are on your own.”
With fuel and food running dangerously low, and yet another promise that needs fulfilling, Riker leads a small group of survivors into the belly of the beast.
Meanwhile, at Trinity House, their home in the hills outside of Santa Fe, Tara unearths a secret that’s been hiding in plain sight for nearly three decades.
As Riker and company fight to make it out of the city alive, a deed from his past sets into motion a chain of events that, by the end of the day, may lead to one or more of the survivors ending up dead—or worse: undead.
With the United States and the rest of the world in the grip of the zombie apocalypse, will Riker find the answers he seeks?
Will Tara make sense of her new discovery?
With danger lurking around every corner, will Steve-O learn the skills necessary to survive in the zombie apocalypse?
Or will the living dead push them all to the edge of the precipice?
This third installment in this series picks up from the second with more action, new characters added, fighting for survival and much needed humour thrown in. This is a character driven, emotionally charged story of a group that in normal times would never have crossed paths but now they have each others backs in the fight for survival against the Bolts, Randoms, monsters or whatever you want to call them. I loved how the chapters were labeled as there are a couple of stories happening, I also loved the Star War, Aliens and other movie, tv and song references thrown in through out this awesome book. I highly recommend this book, series and anything else written by this talented author, you will not be disappointed
Once again knocked it out of the park. But these cliff hanger endings are killing me. I love the great chars funny dialog and fast paced zombie fighting. Shawn Chesser remains one of my favorite writers.
Excellent extension to the series, but unfortunately I read it too fast. Love Riker and his extended family and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. 2021 is too far away.
Past deeds come back to haunt Lee Riker in this book three of the series. Great storyline and action as usual in a Shawn Chesser novel. This one grabs you at the beginning and keeps you engrossed through the entire book. I highly recommend this novel for the Zombie Apocalypse fans out there.
Holy crap! This one had me on the edge of my chair, biting my fingernails! Jesus! Talk about anxiety! And I have to wait 2 weeks for the finale…talk about keeping someone in limbo! God, this is one hellava series!
Another fantastic book in a brilliant series. Fantastic characters and so well written and thought out with lots of twists and turns. Eagerly await the next instalment
Well written and growing characters with growing story line I like where it’s going so far, it speeds up where it needs to speed up and take its time if it needs to
Spoiler:
In my opinion, the trips on the freeway and prison break took up too much plot time. I understand the need for character growth and relationships, but almost 😅 didn’t want the next book if the story kept on that path. Other than that… Well done. 👍🏾
This book deserves a 5 star 🌟 rating because it is awesome ! I really love this series but really, Shawn Chesser, you have to stop making me weep with your books. Lol people if you have started reading this series, well why not? Read it, you won't be disappointed.
