What’s a girl to do when everyone around her isn’t who she believes them to be?
Leath’s dreams are on the cusp of becoming reality when Judaculla magic creeps into her world, revealing itself in new and disconcerting ways. When Leath is offered a hand of friendship from an old enemy, she begins to question everything around her.
Relationships are tested, including Leath’s relationship with James, who is struggling with his own demons. As time runs out for James in both worlds, Leath wonders if she ever really knew him at all.
Pretending is the third book out of a five book series by bestselling author, Cindy Cipriano.
Cindy Cipriano lives in North Carolina with her husband, son and their 27 pets.
Not really.
Just two dogs who think they are children and three cats who think they are raccoons. It only seems as if they make 27. When Cindy isn't writing, she enjoys spending time with her family and the avoidance of cooking.
Pretending is the 3rd book in the fading series by @cindyciprianowrites and although i did start this series by accident I do absolutely love it.
I can't believe how invested I got in this book. I loved getting to see what was going on with James and some of the other boys from Judaculla as well as what they're capable of.
I did predict what was going on early on in the book but it really didn't take away from the enjoyment of it. These books are literally so cute, so interesting and I can't wait for the next book (I NEED IT NOW).
I did notice a mistake or two but again it was pretty easy to look past and the story itself completely made up for it.
I love this series! James has a special place in my heart. I loved the banter in this book between Leath and someone 😉 This story is unique and the character development is amazing! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Evil James is back and better than ever. Crueler yet more sympathetic in his frustration under the tumult of half-remembered feeling. It's great. Everyone else is as good as before, growing more comfortable with the weirdness of all these Judacullans and with each other. They're starting to pair off in a predictable way, but hey, it's a young teen romance.
New rules and magics were introduced. Not a bad thing in itself, but some did very little, and others that were critical to the plot, especially toward the end, were unclear. On the other hand,
The plot threatened to go normal teen drama, but never fear: the fae nonsense only increases in this book. You just have to be patient! Like the others, this one ends on a cliffhanger that leaves you wondering.
I stumbled across this series during lockdown and devoured the first two books before putting this third on pre-order and ended up flying through this, too.
While I did enjoy it and found myself physically laughing and hooked on the characters, the main thing lacking in this series is world/story building. While I’m drawn to keep reading and see out the relationships, that’s all it really is. I’d love to see more progress in the world around just Leath and James.
There was some character development and several twists that I wasn’t expecting (including a new character, who I LOVED) but I have left with even more questions regarding this strange cultish world. Will no doubt be preordering the fourth of the series when it’s available.
I haven’t read a series where I was so invested so quickly in a LONG time. With these, I instantly loved the characters and was so enthralled by the story that I’ve done little else other than read about, and then obsessively think about, these books over the last few days. Thank you for your amazing stories, and I hope there are more books to come in this series!
The entire time I read this book I was beyond frustrated, which points to the authors ability to make the reader care about the characters so much. When I finally reached the end, I didn't want it to be over. Great read.
