Five Nights at Freddy's Fanfiction Located on Archiveofourown. org Second in a five part series
After moving back to her hometown, Ana Stark finally has a job (for now), a home (with dark secrets of its own), friends (albeit animatronic ones) and one last chance at happiness. Until a phone call threatens to destroy what little peace she’s found. His name is Mike Schmidt and he has a story to tell about Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria…
This is Part Two of a 5-Part Series. For Part One, please read Girl on the Edge of Nowhere.
TRIGGER WARNING! This book contains strong adult themes, including adult language, drug and alcohol references, graphic depictions of child abduction, violence towards children and adults, graphic gore violence and explicit sexual content. I am not kidding. This book should probably not be read by anyone.
I wasn't going to write a review because I barely took a beat to catch my breath before diving into Part III: Children of Mammon, but the pathetic number of reviews for this on goodreads is actually a CRIME and I just about called the police. [And before you get all up in my grill about rating and reviewing fan fiction, I really don't think R. Lee Smith minds as she literally thanks people for rating and reviewing in her summary on AO3. She also is a writer of original published works, which I think makes a big difference.]
But seriously WHAT. THE. HELLO!? Falling head over heels for a family of murderous animatronics was not on my 2025 bingo card but wow I think this is going down as one of the most interesting and spectacular stories I've read this year. I am down bad for these robots. And Ana. My girl. I love her so much... and I'm worried about her.
Mike Schmidt and the Long Night was a much more passive story than I expected from the title, but I hung onto every word and every scene. So much dark history was revealed... providing so many answers but also posing new questions and I am desperate for more of the story. It's haunting, heartbreaking, insidious and disturbing but also FUNNY AF at times? Perfection. 10/10.
And yes, I'm already panicking about how I will possibly cope after New Faces, Old Bones, knowing the final part is not available yet.
R. Lee Smith is an out-of-this-world kind of writer. A freaking genius. I don't think anyone else could successfully tackle the stories she brings to life. She can make even the most mundane content so compelling, and the most extraordinary completely believable. I am so grateful that she felt called to write and publish this even without being able to profit off of it. We don't deserve her.
Wow that was a really long night! The book is amazing! A horrifying story sparing no details. PLEASE READ TRIGGER WARNINGs!
As always R. Lee Smith can weave the story that sucks me in from the very beginning, and no matter the gruesome murder details I just can’t put it down. I love R. Lee Smith writing style with slow descriptive measurable pace. Her books always leave me reeling.
So the story continues with Ana trying to live in Mammon, and after one stormy night she decides she need to help animatronics with the roof structure problem in Freddy’s and that’s what she does until the phone call…phone call that will reveal what’s been happening in that little town for 50 years. During one long night some of the secrets will be exposed one by one. Will she believe them? Will and when she find out more secrets? I hope to find out in the next parts.
I loved Part 2 as much as I loved Part 1! I thought that the answers to some of the questions I had, were really juicy! There was also a moment in the book where I felt the story kind of dropped me on my ass a bit, surprising me with some pretty dark history that was sad to read.
To touch on that a bit, I just want to say that it is so impressive that RLee made me feel so much in those darker moments. It felt like I was really listening in on someone's confession tape, instead of reading fiction. RLee writes this world in a way that makes it feel like it's completely possible these events have actually occurred. Never do I feel that she's trying to convince me of the horrors, I am legitimately swayed.
Foxy & Foxanne/Mangle, ugh my heart! I ache for those two. RLee really dug deep in my guts with those two. Because it hurt to read some of their history.
I do have one critique, near the end there was a moment that Chica had moved Foxy off of a table, to then pick up "Freddy" from the floor. It wasn't a huge problem, but it seemed like there may have been a little mixup.
RLee has me hooked, badly with this series. I am so invested in where the story will go, & also the ultimate end goal. I have some theories but, so far RLee has continued to surprise me. On to Part 3!
so yeah, this is fanfic, but it's a massive undertaking and written so dang well. It is based on the Five Nights at Freddy's games but establishes it's own lore. It does require suspension of disbelief as the main characters are sentient animatronics.
Mind the trigger warnings this one was ROUGH and uncomfortable. It was a great read though with a ton of exposition and lore building for this version of the story in the second half but boy am I excited for the next one.
I’ll follow R. Lee Smith anywhere, even into a fanfic of a story I know zero about. I haven’t even seen the movies, just saw that she hadn’t published any books in a while and craved more of her writing. This is yet another of her stories that’s so well crafted with amazing characters. I don’t want it to end!
Seriously disturbing. I'm really glad my kids don't currently have any creepy ass toys because they would definitely be getting a timeout after I finished this.
