Vol. 1 ★★★☆☆

While the volume tackles lots of compelling topics—the dangers of putting someone on a pedestal, the abuse of power and influence, the effectiveness of the justice system—Satoshi Morie's intentions with the story remain unclear so it's hard to say if any of it is executed well. That said, big fan of the use of double-page spreads throughout.

Once, again, it feels like this series is trying to make itself out to be far more dramatic than it actually is. A lot of the internal conflicts that Rize is going through honestly seem kind of dumb. Like, her "logic" doesn't make any sense to me. Now, she's just had the mental image of her brother shattered after using it as a mental crutch for many years. So I suppose some of her erratic and conflicted mindset can make some sense. But...her original idea of getting Kairi to confess to murder so her brother gets justice makes the most logical sense. Doing it herself is a bit reckless, seeing as she's trying to actively trick him while not being in the best mental state herself. Her ploy of pretending to love him in order to get close enough to find concrete evidence against him is extremely dangerous, but again, her mindfulness is a bit wrecked. But the whole thing of her being conflicted about turning him in, because her brother ended up becoming an awful person, does not make sense to me. Sure, your brother ended up becoming a scumbag who was a small-time criminal. But did he deserve to get murdered? Not like that, at least. The justice system, while still exceptionally flawed, is there for a reason. Now, I know that Japan's track record of convicting and sentencing sexual offenders is abysmal. But getting beaten to death with a bat and then being simultaneously waterboarded and drowned when the beating didn't finish him off? That's insane. Also, I really didn't expect the manga to show us explicitly how the brother died. That...was way more brutal than I expected it to be. But her conflict of going "Well, maybe my brother deserved it, so maybe it's fine to fall in love with his murderer." Like...HELLO? No??? Also, Kairi being so self-pitying is grating. I don't know if it's being played so the readers feel bad for him, but it just irritates me. You murdered a guy when you could have just turned him in. And yeah, I KNOW, the story implies that the justice system won't do anything because of how it went with Kairi's father's incident. But like...Kairi's father was rich and had a powerful position. Rize's brother was a street thug who was already on the police's radar for previous illegal behavior and arrests. It wouldn't have ended up the same way. Also hate how Kairi is like "I don't want to end up like my Father!" so he keeps doing crazy shit. Homie...just don't sexually assault people or coerce them into having sex?! It's that easy? I don't know, all of the elements of this drama aren't reading as drama to me. It's honestly very illogical and making me annoyed at the characters.

No puedo con que ya se reveló qué ocurrió. Me faltan dos tomos, así que esto va a tener otro giro dramático, lo veo venir. Mi apuesta va al policía.

Rize me da pena, la pobre muchacha creó una imagen de su hermano de la que no se quiere despegar porque es difícil al haber sido su soporte emocional por más de una década. Sin embargo, como parte de no idealizar a nadie, acá se va al extremo de un hermano cuyas circunstancias de vida lo obligaron a cambiar para mal; por otro lado, Kairi, también ve caer a su padre de modelo de rectitud a viejo cochino que se aprovecha de su puesto.

Quiero mucho a Kairi, el morrito es fiel a su ideal de justicia y es buena persona, ojalá no le pase nada.

Un volume illuminante, straziante per quanto riguarda la confessione di Uchida sul fratello di Kizaki, commovente e dolcissimo per la scena finale. Mi è piaciuto particolarmente il fatto che ci sia all’inizio del volume una scheda con i protagonisti con le loro relative informazioni, le tavole sono molto belle.

I am loving this story for showing that life is not black and white. Good or bad. You can do bad things and still be a good person or vice versa.
That backstory about Kairi and his story with Masaki was shocking. But it all makes sense.
What happened to sweet little Masaki after being separated from his sister????
