Scottish brogue, English Lords, horse rides, inheritance, a large dowry, a scoundrel, true love, parents, balls and dancing, terrace talks, stolen kisses, drawings, pets, friendship and much more in this novella.

I enjoyed the fresh spin of this novella. A heroine who is not perfect (I'm not going to say why, except that I don't think I've read too many books with characters who have this), well at least not to the ton, but who is sweet and charming and all things good and wonderful. A new Lord who is out of place but stepping up to his responsibility in the eyes of society, yet a Lord who won't set aside what is right to appease society.

Elizabeth and Alec you two made me smile. I couldn't stop cheering for you from the first moment you met. Alec, that Scottish backbone was just what Elizabeth needed to help her feel wanted and cherished. Way to go for putting that scoundrel in his place! Pow! I loved that scene. Oh and you two sneaking away for a quiet moment to talk (and possibly kiss)...Alec you know just what to say to make a Lady feel loved and adored. Good job not taking no for an answer and showing true love can conquer all. <3

I wasn't a big fan of Elizabeth's parents. I was a little frustrated with them at certain parts, which I think is the point. But I was still frustrated with the dad at the end. Grrrrrrrrr..... Ok, I'll not say why but I think when you read it you'll understand completely. Alec's mom on the other hand, loved her!

Even though it's a novella, I felt like the author did a great job of creating a good friendship between these two, and that friendship bloomed into love beautifully.

What a sweet novella! I loved the instant connection between Elizabeth and Alec and how they made each other feel comfortable and able to be themselves. And that accent! It's so fun to be able "hear" his Scottish brogue in my head as I read. Elizabeth's stutter drains her confidence and prevents her from standing up to her parents, resulting in being stuck with a suitor that puts up a good front, but is a horrible person. His unkindness to Elizabeth provides the necessary conflict for Alec to come to her rescue, which endears him to her even more. Their affection grows swiftly and I loved their chemistry! There is a satisfying conclusion as they overcome the obstacles to their relationship and future happiness. A quick read, perfect for when I needed a happy ending fix at the tail end of a long day :)

Elizabeth is a character who is easy to relate to--for me, at least. She's shy and would rather avoid society, especially due to a characteristic that causes her to be a target of cruelty. But her father wants her married and his acceptance of a suitor is a recipe for disaster after Elizabeth meets a very intriguing Scottish man.

Who could resist a gentleman in a kilt? I've told my girls before that I don't care who they end up married to--as long as they are treated well and respected and that's just how Alec is with Elizabeth. His ability to see straight into her heart and soul causes a bit of an insta-love, but she is treasured. It's hard to defy the expectations of society, however, and that sets up a delightfully tender tale with this latest TR Single.

As always, I appreciated the clean romance and the entertaining plot. Although it's on the shorter side, a well-rounded story is delivered and I could have eagerly enjoyed more details and more story. Short, sweet, and satisfying.

Elizabeth Barrington is the daughter of a duke but that doesn't seem to help when you have a problem speaking in addition to being a bit shy, and not liking large gatherings. Her parents want her to marry Lord Lindley but Elizabeth would rather remain alone than be shackled the awful man. While in town she meets Alec Ramsay and his mother and soon things begin to change for Elizabeth. Alec Ramsay is a highlander who's looked down upon by the ton because of prejudices against those from Scotland, but he's also the new Earl of Suffield and a neighbor to the Duke of Barrington. He does his best to hide his Scottish brogue and act the part of an English gentleman, but when he's upset it comes through.

Elizabeth and Alec are taken with each other from the start. He's just the type of man she needs. She can be herself around him which helps her relax so her speech impediment isn't as bad. She immediately realizes that he and his mother don't notice her speech problem which I LOVED. There are a couple of obstacles to their pairing--the insufferable Lord Lindley who only wants to marry Elizabeth for her dowry, and the prejudice of her father against the Scottish.

Thankfully Alec's care and treatment of Elizabeth gave her courage and enabled her to finally speak to her parents telling them the truth about Lord Lindley, who Elizabeth described once "his ensemble was all black. Matching the color of his soul".

Alec was just what the kindhearted Elizabeth needed. He truly cared for her and showed it by his actions and how he spoke to her. I liked his mother--she seemed more motherly to Elizabeth than her own mother. As for Elizabeth's parents, I wanted to reach in to the book and shake some sense into them--they cared more for how things looked to the ton than what was best for their only daughter. Thank goodness for Kitty the dog or Alec and Elizabeth may not have ended up together.

I loved this Timeless Romance novella and wish it would've been longer so we could've had more of Alec's Scottish brogue.

Alec Is A Hero

Alec is a hero. An honest to goodness knight in shining armor. Well, maybe a kilt, but still. Hero. I loved his gentleness with his mother and Elizabeth. He was kind and thoughtful but definitely knew how to use his brawn when the situation called for it.

Elizabeth was so sweet despite her horrible parents. She really deserved someone like Alec- someone to champion and defend her. It was a very satisfying romance.

Something that made me laugh was the dog named Kitty. I have a cat named Kitty 🐱 which seems redundant, I know, but what if I named my cat Doggie? Haha

This is a sweet regency romance. Kissing only.

Fascinating escape!

As much as I love the Regency time period, I can't imagine being forced to make a match, especially at the whim of a father who doesn't take my feelings into consideration. Elizabeth is a sweet and darling girl, but she has a stutter, which makes her feel "less than" in her father's eyes. But Alec, a dashing Scot, sees her for her, and their electric connection ignited my attention and captivated me. This forbidden association penetrated itself smack dab into the center of my heart and I was all in.

This book is full of loyalties, exploration, evaluation, and difficulties, but those elements only serve to add a richness to this already flavorful story. I loved the characters and enjoyed watching them become self-aware and release the hidden facets of their personalities. Even the villains were well done, and combined with a sweeping plot, this whole story was told in an engaging way that drew me right in and allowed me to be engulfed for a time. And who wouldn't enjoy a great escape in this day and age?

Kudos, Ms. Bellon, for writing yet another amazing story!

I love this quick easy read story of 2 people who are trying to fit into the world they live in but they have obstacles that are cruel within society. Elizabeth has a stutter and has had two seasons and has only a prospect of a man who only wants her dowry and nothing to do with her. He is cruel and mean. But her parents think it is a good match.

Then we have Alec. A man who is a Scottish Highlander who has inherited a property in England. Alec's Scottish brogue is thick and he tries to stifle it when in certain crowds. He has a loving mother. He is very tender with Elizabeth. Alec treats Elizabeth like a very rare treasure! She finds that her stutter is lessened around him. She finds peace. It is easy to route for them!

They both want to be free of their troubles and be who they are. Together they see the good in each other and quickly fall in love.

Now they just have to convince her parents! I love how Alec goes after her! Oh how I sighed!

It's always fun to see an author you love branch out and do something new. Over the years I have loved Julie Bellon and her military suspense romance books. They are some of my favorites! This book is quite outside that genre. A complete one-eighty. And while I did enjoy this book, I'm still the biggest fan of those military romances! I hope a get a new one of those soon! (Plus, as a little side note here, I feel like so many authors are switching to write in this "regency" genre and there are SO many of them out there right now. I'm longing for a good, clean romantic military suspense which there aren't nearly as many of.)

I think what I loved most about this book was Alec. He meets Elizabeth and is completely unfazed by her obvious struggles. His acceptance of her is instant and heart warming. Alec is fiercely loyal and he is, above all else, a true gentleman. I loved him. Well, the thought of him in a kilt, sporting the strong Scottish brogue didn't hurt anything either. 😉

I didn't completely buy into how everything went down with Elizabeth's father but other than that, this was a sweet story with characters that are easy to root for.

This is a short book (maybe novella size) but the story felt whole and complete.

Julie Coulter Bellon has written a splendidly cute and sweet Scottish-English historical regency romance that readers will thoroughly enjoy. This is a light, quick, and easy read that readers will not want to miss in this charming Timeless Romance Single!

I read this book first when it was in novella form as a single with A Timeless Romance collection. Julie Bellon has expanded the story and brought more life to the characters.

Alec Ramsey is the type of hero that every girl wishes would come into her life. He is a kind man who sees past superficial traits into the heart of the person. The day that the dog Kitty ran into Elizabeth's arms, closely follow by Alec, was a wonderful day for her. It is the type of meeting that great love stories are built upon.

I love the fact that Elizabeth is flawed in some way. She stutters. It is a point that drives her father crazy and enters her into an unfavorable match. He wants to add to his power at the expense of his daughter. He doesn't see her value to him.

Alec is relentless when it comes to the lady that he loves. He treats her well. He treats her mother well. He just doesn't treat Elizabeth's father or Lord Lindley well. A fact that I applaud.

To be honest, I didn't remember how this story was resolved when I read the novella. I remembered Elizabeth and Alec. This made it a whole new and interesting book to read!

I liked this story a lot! Elizabeth and Alec Ramsay were both atypical characters for this genre. Alec has just inherited the title, the Earl of Suffield. He was raised in Scotland and had no contact with his father's family after his father disgraced them by marrying a Scottish woman. Alec is down to Earth, and funny. He is confident in himself and his heritage, but protective of his mother when others slight her. Elizabeth has a stutter and it has left her feeling awkward in society, and like an embarrassment to her family. Both characters feel like they don't belong, but find their place with each other. This was a perfect romance with humor, romantic tension (and a few stolen kisses), and characters who really bring out the best in one another.

My favorite scene was at the end when Alec's mother encouraged him to enact a highland charge!

I wanted to give Elizabeth's parents a good stern talking to. Unlike Alec's supportive mother, they didn't listen to their daughter. They kept throwing her at a suitor, Lord Lindley, who was not very lordly at all! Grrr!

Content: clean, a few kisses, mild violence, mild innuendo (threats)

This Novella is Very Enjoyable. Alec and Elizabeth both meet in a very unconventional way for their time. Alec grandfather has just died and he has been given the title of Earl. But he is is Scottish. He is a very kind, gentle caring man. Elizabeth has a stutter and is very shy because of it. Her parents have always made it seem like it was her huge flaw. She is sweet and kind lady. Alec come along and he shows her attention and affection she is not use too. But there is only one problem a very disagreeable man named Lindley. He is the complete opposite from Alec. Her parents are convinced he is her perfect suitor. Elizabeth is so shy and scared to tell her parents how Lindley keeps threatening her. That he is only after her dowry. She wants to tell them how in love she is with Alec and he is who she wants to marry. It was very clean. I had a hard time putting it down.

Slight spoiler ahead.
I wish there was a way to give half Stars because this story was Almost perfect so I didn't want to downgrade it to 4.
I related to this heroine because I have a mild stutter when I'm stressed. When I was young, it was enough that I stopped talking for a time.
I enjoyed the differences in speech that were well portrayed by the author, and how they showed the differences in the characters. The one flaw to the story (for me) was how quickly we saw a different side to her parents at the final confrontation. This can be explained by the novella format, but still...

First I have to say that I love Regency Romance Novels. This novella did not disappoint. I loved the story line. It was well written and the plot moved quickly and steadily. I loved the characters that were flawed but so lovable. I loved the Scottish Brogue that Alec slipped into when excited or nervous. I loved Elizabeth’s stutter. After the novella, the book contained the first chapter of the Marquess Meets His Match, the story of Alice, Elizabeth’s best friend and I will anxiously await its’ release.

This was a cute, sweet novella! I loved Alec; he never expected to become an Earl and the British do not welcome him at all. But the Scottish warrior in him won't back down from any challenge they give him.

And sweet Elizabeth is being pursued for her dowry when she meets Alec. For the first time, she feels like someone actually sees her and understands her. But she's going to have to find her voice and speak up for herself if she wants her happily every after.

The regency era is one that I easily get lost in. The fashion, the traditions, and mannerisms in and of themselves are fascinating, especially when compared to our times but there is one aspect of this era that always bothers me: the amount of forced marriages. I have always been one to marry for love, and cannot begin to imagine being forced to spend the rest of my life with someone only because of money or a contract. Sadly, this is where we find Elizabeth.

Elizabeth's character could not be sweeter. She truly has a heart of gold, but all her narcissistic father can see is what an embarrassment she is to him and their family, all because of a handicap, a stutter, that she fights so hard to keep control over.

Alec, the Scottish Highlander, is the newly appointed Earl of Suffield, and from the instant he meets Elizabeth all he sees is grace and beauty, gazing past the impediment, to see her true spirit. Alec is a strong man with a charming countenance that gleams for the page, especially when he is in the presence of Elizabeth and his mother, but sadly many in England can only see his nationality, and not his strength of character. Both Alec and Elizabeth have their own unique battles to fight, but now they don't have to fight alone, and it is a joy to watch them both build each other up, accepting each other for who they truly are inside.

Earl Lindley is Elizabeth's forced betrothed, and he is absolute scum. I growled at the pages each time this scumbag was in a scene. Both him and Elizabeth's father are the absolute worst, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what justice would befall them both. The strong emotion that I felt just shows the power Julie has with a pen. She has once again captured my heart and imagination with The Highlander's Hidden Heart. It was engaging, intriguing, had all the feels, and was the perfect weekend escape. I cannot recommend highly enough!

Get settled in a very comfy chair because you're not going to want to get up until you reach the touching end of this clean romance. The Highlander's Hidden Heart has characters with strong emotions, deep loyalties, and hard choices. Lord Alec Ramsay and Lady Elizabeth Barrington are attracted to each other from the first time they meet and are introduced by Miss Kitty. I loved that part! It gives the reader a glimpse into Elizabeth's character early on. There is a villain or two that you'll love to despise. The plot has twists and turns that will have you hugging the arms of that comfy chair. I highly recommend this book to clean/wholesome romance readers and to Regency romance readers.
I definitely plan to read more from Julie Coulter Bellon!

Alec is so charming, kind and genuine, not once did he make mention of her stutter, either in word or thought. Elizabeth is sweet, shy and has a fiery side but her stutter makes her self conscious. It was nice to see her gain her confidence. With Alec by her side she was emboldened to stand up for herself. Alec’s protectiveness of her was so endearing. I love their instant connection and effortless friendship. They made such a sweet couple.

The only person more distasteful that Lord Lindley was Elizabeth’s father. He treated her like garbage and didn’t give a “rats rear” about her happiness. I was so anxious about the outcome. I didn’t know how they were going to be together but I enjoyed how things wrapped up. It was utterly romantic and there were no loose ends. This was an enjoyable story with characters you could connect with, and couldn’t help but love.

I received a free ebook review copy of this book but was under no obligation to post a positive review

A Highlander’s Hidden Heart is another short and sweet novella in the Timeless Romance Singles series.
In this novella we meet Elizabeth and Alec. Elizabeth is the daughter of a duke that was never really comfortable in society.
Alec is a Scottish men that has been summoned to London in order to become the new Earl of Suffield, when all of his father relatives have died.
When he and his mother first arrive in London they bump into Elizabeth, which immediately catches his attention. On the other side of the encounter, Elizabeth finds herself feeling comfortable talking with strangers for the first time.
While both Alec and Elizabeth want to get to know the other, Elizabeth’s father already made an agreement with another man to court her and eventually marry her. A fact that makes their encounters much more complicated and interesting.

This novella was short and progressed very quickly. I would have wanted a bit more build up for the feelings of our main characters, but considering it was always supposed to be a short novella- I have to compromise on a fast paced romance.
I loved that the author focused on a main character with a stutter, especially in that time period- when having any kind of a noticeable difference from what was considered normal, immediately made a person appear less than what he actually was.

I would definitely recommend reading this if you have loved other volumes in the Timeless anthology series, looking to read more diversely or just looking for a short romance including a man wearing a kilt ;)
I will be looking forward to reading the companion story to follow ^^

Lastly, I would like to thank Kathy from “I am a Reader” for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this sweet novella of love and courage.

Elizabeth Barrington's shyness and her stutter have made her somewhat of an outcast among London society, despite the fact that she's the daughter of a duke. When she meets Alec Ramsey, newly arrived from Scotland to take his place as an earl, she finds someone who seems to understand her and to like her for who she is. While Elizabeth would like to spend more time with Alec, her father agrees to allow Lord Lindley to court her. Alec can't stand the way Lord Lindley treats Elizabeth, who is polite in public but who privately makes it clear that he only cares about Elizabeth's dowry. Although he's an earl, being half-Scottish and raised in Scotland makes counts against him in English society, and that might be enough to cost him the woman he cares for.

I was hooked on this novella from the beginning. I loved Alec and Elizabeth--they were both great characters. Alec is willing to push against the rules of polite society to defend and care for Elizabeth, making him such a dreamy leading man (and hey, let's be honest...the half-Scottish thing is awesome). I really enjoyed seeing Elizabeth be cherished by someone and coming to find her own voice. I also loved seeing the unfolding of their romance and the resolution of their of dilemma. Elizabeth's parents were kind of flat and I wish they'd been a little more developed, but all in all, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the companion novella!

I received a copy of the novella from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is the first book I have read by this author & I wasn’t disappointed. It had me eager to find out exactly how everything would play out. I was tempted to skip ahead a few times but I’m glad now that I didn’t since it all played out beautifully.
I love period/regency style books & movies, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to get on with this at first - I wasn’t sure what to expect. There were a few instances initially where I thought the syntax wasn’t quite how I would have expected them but the story line just drew me in & I loved the Scottish brogue making an appearance.
This is a clean read - but there are plenty of kisses to satisfy.
The heroine is quite a shy little thing but I could really feel her pain - she has a stutter & so feels insecure & I could almost say overwhelmed at times. I would have liked to have seen a bit more feistiness from her - there were definite glimpses but they didn’t always have a long duration - I would have personally liked to have seen more “backbone” but then, having said this, it may not have worked so well with her sweet nature or have brought out the protective side of her strong & handsome highlander so readily, so it’s perhaps just as well ;)
Overall, an enjoyable read which, as I said at the outset, has me eager to read the next one.
(This book also has a truly horrid “villain” which I was eager to see ousted.)

I received my copy free but this my honest review.

This short and sweet Regency period romance features Elizabeth, an English Duke’s daughter who has a painful stutter. Her dad, tired of no man offering for her after two seasons out, accepts the courtship of Lord Lindley, with the idea that he will marry his daughter after the season ends. But when Elizabeth saves a runaway dog, who belongs to the Scottish lord Alec Ramsay, who has just inherited his dad’s ancestral estate and has returned to England, her heart is smitten. She can sense his goodness, unlike the evil she senses in the horrid man her father wants her to court and marry.

So begins the story of two hearts becoming one, and overcoming all obstacles placed in their way. The theme touched upon being proud of your heritage and standing up for your beliefs. The characters were very fun and engaging, the villain a cad I wanted to spit at (except I suck at spitting), and the plot unravels at a fast pace that kept my attention riveted. It’s a super good book. A quick read, but one that makes you smile the whole way through. ***I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a fast paced, quick and easy to read Regency Romance. I enjoyed pretty much everything about it!

I liked Alec. I liked the way he was so considerate of those in his life. He’s just been made an earl, but he doesn’t let that go to his head. He’s the kind of man who is always kind and always trying to take care of those around him. I liked how he interacted with his mother, it was sweet when he called her “Ma,” and the way he was with Elizabeth…it was just so perfect!

Elizabeth has a slight stuttering problem, but it only seems to escalate around her father and it escalates even more around the vile man who her father is trying to betroth her to. I didn’t like him. I really had a hard time with her father as well. He never was willing to listen to what Elizabeth said, in some cases he even stopped her before she tried to speak because, “he wasn’t going to be able to understand her.” Wow! But Elizabeth is a dear. I loved the way she and Alec’s mom got along so great. I loved that they sought each other out and were really able to bond over their shared love of dogs.

I liked the plot. It moves really fast. It’s the perfect afternoon escape!
