The heroine was too much of an idiot for me to relate to or even like. And the hero was boring.

This is the third book in the Billion Scandals Series and my favorite so far. Talk about taking your emotions on a wild ride. This book will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Mathew (Mattie) and Maya (Freckles) felt a connection the first time they met and that connection remained through six years of being best friends. They just connected together and were soulmates. She was head over heels in love with him but afraid to confess her true feelings so she opted for best friend status. They were from different worlds, he was the son of a billionaire and she was an illegitimate daughter of his father's late friend. She rescued him from the ocean after his plane crashed and she became his security blanet of sorts as he dealt with the trauma. Lots of family dynamics the way her father's family interconnected with his. She was insecure and the emotional scars from her father's abandonment made it hard for her to trust love. The book will have you in knots as they both deal with their fears and emotions. A page turner that you'll want to read in one sitting like I did. After darkness comes the sunshine and the book ends with a surprise or two and a happy ending. I read an arc via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review.

4.5 stars -- I. *sniff* Really liked. *sniff* This book. *sniff, sniff* This is a bit of a tear jerker. Just when my eyes would dry, the waterworks would start anew. This happened at least three times. The secrets, the proclamations, and the heartbreak really got to me.

The preceding books in this series seemed to have more time spent on the secondary characters than this one has. Not saying that's a bad thing. Just an observation. Although, it was nice to see a bit more of the male members of the extended families with quick cameos from the female contingency. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book was a perfect read for me, fast read, good storyline, and from L. A. Pepper, icing on the cake. This isn’t simply a romance story between two best friends, it’s also showing us there are rarely perfect families out there. That it takes tragedy to see what you have, and sometimes it even takes a little longer.

This was a good read. Maya meets Matthew at a wedding. They became indtant friends. She has always liked him as more. Of course it took him some time to figure out that he felt the same. Luckily in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Maya and Matthew. They met and became best friends. Matthew was a billionaire's son and Maya was the product of an affair between a local woman and a rich man. Maya grew up knowing her father's other family were more important than her and her mother. Maya was in love with Matthew, but he thought of her as his best friend and even brought other women to introduce to Maya. Maya was content to love Matthew from afar and settle for seeing him whenever he came into town. When Matthew went missing in a plane crash, Maya knew she could find him and headed out during a storm to find him. Matthew couldn't be separated from Maya and even stayed with her, but she had to decide if she could move on or wait for him forever. Maya knew Matthew would never love her the same way she loved him, so she tried to move on. Matthew hated that Maya was pulling away from him and was determined to make her realize what she meant to him. I liked this book. I liked Matthew. I think he really loved Maya, but he never realized how much. Maya was trying to move on, but she really loved Matthew. I think Maya had to realize she was not worthless like she thought and she was just as important. Maya should have never been made to feel like she was a secret, i like how Matthew didn't treat her like she was. Good one.

This is the 3rd book in this series and is Maya and Matthew’s story. Maya us bartending at a wedding when she meets Matthew and they have been best friends ever since. Now Kayla’s feeling has become more that the friend zone, and he does not realize that until an accident causes him to revaluate. Mya does not think herself worthy of his love, but will he be able to change her mind? This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, and is filled with secrets, surprises, and love. I look forward to reading more from this author, and I highly recommend her work for all readers.

I would have to give this book a 5 out of 5- star rating. I loved this quick read more than I had planned to. This is the first book I have read by the author, L.A. Pepper. The main characters Matthew (Mattie) and Maya (Freckles) were written a little cheesy, but that's what made them great best friends. There was a lot of information in such a short book but it was perfectly written in each and every way. I fell in love with this book easily. I recommend this book and definitely plan to read more by this author.

What a heartwarming romance. I hope there are really people out there that have that kind of a relationship. That they could find their soul mate in the middle of a storm on the ocean. It is understanding how a person could be mixed up being in the situation Maya lived in. All the twists, turns and surprises because she couldn't have faith in Matthew. It leaves a warm feeling for the reader when she gets back with Mattie and has a family that she had been denied.

This book is definitely a five star read and is an incredible love story between Maya Singleton and Matthew Beaumont who have known each other since childhood. L.A. Pepper has written a superb romance with heartfelt characters and a plot with drama, action, and a great romance. I highly recommend it as well as the other books in the A Billionaire Scandals Series.

I have loved ever book in this series each one I love just a little bit more. The group of friends their families, good and bad. All of it this book was no exception. I really loved Maya her love of all things water, her loyalty to her mom and her dream to be with Matthew.
And Matthew such a boy through and through totally oblivious to Maya's feelings till he's forced to move away from her after she saved him. It's then that the light finally turns on and wait till you read what happens....

Secrets of the Past That Control the Happiness of the Present

Families can be complicated, messy, and at their worst, toxic. Families can be complicated, messy, and at their worst, toxic. And, Maya Singleton and her mom, Kerri Singleton's relationship with her deceased dad, Robert Hamilton, would definitely fall in the messy-complicated range of families. And, as long as she and her mom stayed in their world of Montauk and did not cross into the Hamptons, they could avoid the toxic part of family. And so to avoid the toxic, her dad’s name was not listed on Kerri’s birth certificate, and she and her mom stayed in their village of Montauk in the small Ditch Plains Beach cottage her dad had bought for her mom, and did not venture into the Hamptons where her dad’s summer home was located which he shared with his “real” family—his legal wife, Barbara, and his legal children, Jack and April, who had his name listed as father on their birth certificates.

And six months after her dad’s death, his secret mistress—her mom—in her Ditch Plains cottage, still mourned the death of the man whom she loved and for whom she had sacrificed her pride in love. But, just down the island, his legal wife, Barbara with whom he shared no real love, remarried in style at the legal family’s Hamptons’ beach house. So, when 17-year-old Maya, working for a local caterer to save for college, is given the opportunity to work at a posh wedding in the Hamptons, she gladly accepts the job, not just for the money, but also, to see up close and for the first time, her half-siblings. And, while not terribly impressed or egregiously offended by the conduct of her secret siblings, she is terrified of being identified as the unwanted bastard child.

So, while she moves in and out of the wedding festivities un-noticed and nameless—the family scandal or any joyous recognition of shared features and resulting family acceptance not revealed, she does not have a life changing encounter. But, as the celebration draws to its close, she meets 19-year-old Matthew Beaumont, son of Charles “Beau” Beaumont, her father’s best friend—who knows who she is. And, after the party, as everyone drifts away, Maya lingers and once more encounters Matthew with whom she shares her sadness of being her dad’s secret love child. And for the first time in her life, she finds acceptance and affirmation from a stranger when Matthew shares his understanding of the hurt that results from being deprived of a parent’s unconditional love. They bond over dysfunctional parents who can’t love unconditionally, and as the final call for the wedding festivities is made, Maya and Matthew answer ocean’s call to surf—which they heed. They leave the Hamptons for Montauk where Maya dons her wet suit and grabs her board after hooking Matt up with borrowed gear from a local friend. A soul deep friendship is formed between “Freckles” and “Mattie” that remains constant for the next six years, until fate and nature intervene, forcing the two friends to “cut bait or fish” –to acknowledge that their friendship has grown deeper and stronger, and the bonds that connect them really might better be called love than simple friendship. But, the barriers of the past must be sorted and addressed—the relationship between Maya and her un-acknowledged half-siblings, Jack and April Hamilton, must be acknowledged if a relationship with Matt can be exist. While Matt and Maya’s love has blossomed, Mattie’s dad’s connections with the Hamilton’s is also stronger—he is now married to April, the legitimate daughter of Maya’s biological father.

LA Pepper continues to weave a passionate and sensuous tale of love and discovery that is filled with unexpected twists, turns and tunnels with the Hamilton family. This is a reading adventure well worth the readers’ attention. It reads well alone, but is even better with the knowledge of the relationships that spin out of the initial wedding in the Hamptons.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.

Maya and Matthew’s book was a pleasurable surprise. I hadn’t given these two characters a second thought when I read about them in the Billionaire’s Baby Secret, though I’m so glad L.A. Pepper gave us their story. I instantly fell in love with Maya and Matthew’s personality and relationship. Maya is an amazing character with crippling insecurities that keep her from accepting who she is and letting others fully into her life. She is so much more than the ignored bastard child of a married man and her abandonment issues may dictate some of her decisions. I adored her love for those close to her and her development throughout the book; she greatly matures and powerfully overcomes her self-doubts. I loved her fire and her strength, although she may feel like a coward at times, because it makes her so much more real and genuine; there are many people who let insecurities get the better of them and who wish to run away from their problems but must learn to face them head on. Maya has been in love with her best friend Matthew for almost seven years and knows she has to move on from this one-sided love friendship and find the love she deserves, but things don’t always go as planned. Matthew is the sweetest hero I’ve read in the series (so far). He is caring and charming and has explosive chemistry with Maya (after he starts viewing her as a lover and not his best buddy). After Maya saves his life, he sees her in a new light, and finds he cannot be without her. Because of his traumatic experience, Matthew must prove to Maya he truly wants to be with her for her and not because he sees her as his “safety blanket”. Throw in a surprise pregnancy and lots of heartache, and we’re in for a rollercoaster of emotions in this great friends to lovers book. I especially enjoyed the secondary character’s personal and supportive development throughout the series and loved the small peek into their lives. I am so excited to continue the series with Mona and Jack‘s story!

L.A. Pepper has written a 5-star book. Maya has loved Matthew for years. She has to watch as he brings his new girlfriends to his summer home and pretends it doesn't hurt her. She knows that she can never be with him in the way she wants to be. Matthew knows that Maya will always be there for him when he comes to his summer home for him to hang out with. Matthew and his new girlfriend were coming to spend some time at his summer home in the Hamptons and he was flying them there but he had problems and his plane went down in the ocean. Maya heard the story on the news and she knew that he was still alive so she goes out into a tropical storm to look him. The coast guard has stopped looking due to the storm. Maya finds Matthew and gets him back to shore where the EMT's are waiting for him. He doesn't want to go to the hospital. He wants to go to Maya's. After a few months with him staying with Maya, she is told by her mother to let him go since he will never care for her as she does for him. It takes a while for Matthew to realize that he cares for Maya but it doesn't turn out the way he thinks it should. There are things that are keeping Maya from giving in to Matthew and she tells him they can't see each other anymore. After Maya breaks up with Matthew, she finds out she is pregnant but she doesn't tell Matthew. Things happen and Matthew finds out that Maya is pregnant and she is leaving her home for good and he is told to get there before she does.
Will Maya leave the Hamptons before Matthew can get there?
Will Matthew be able to convince Maya that he wants her or will he lose her for good?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

**Spoilers** Book 3 of the series is Maya and Matthew's story. Don't worry, you don't have to read the previous books to love this one. (But you probably will want to since they're great too). They first met at Beau and April's wedding in book 1 of the series and have been friends since. But Maya's feelings have grown tremendously. She's in love with Matthew and doesn't want anyone else. When Matthew nearly dies after a plane crash, it's Maya to the rescue, and over the next few months, he clings to her as a lifeline (in the friend zone of course). However, Maya's mom sees the herself in her, pining after a man that will never be hers, always at this beck and call, and never living a life of her own. At first, she doesn't want to hear her mother. Therefore, mom has a heart to heart with Matthew instead. It's this conversation that really starts him to thinking about his feelings for Maya. With a little push, he decides to take some time to get himself together and figure out what he wants. Next it's Maya's turn, and she finally realizes her mother is correct and decides to start living for herself. How will this effect Matthew and his realization that he loves her romantically?.....You'll have to read the rest of the book for everything else that happens in the book. Of course, there's a pregnancy (duh it's in the title), but it's much more involved, including brief appearances from the characters from Book 1 and 2. I did want to slap Maya at one point towards the end, but t's a great read. You won't be disappointed! Can't wait for the next book.

Maya is 17 and waitressing at wedding reception of her deceased (6 months) father's legitimate wife's remarriage. She sees April, her half legitimate sister and daughter of the bride and Jack, her half legitimate brother and son of the bride . Maya has never been allowed to meet April nor Jack. She is her father's dirty little secret. She was working to observe her father's family. Maya meets 19yr old Matt at the reception. He is the best man's son and close friend of the family.

6yrs later, Maya has a master's degree in marine biology and she has become best friends with Matthew. He crashes his small plane and Maya rushess out in a tropical storm to find him. She has loved Matty since they met he but he has only thought of her as his best friend. U
One night when she walked into the bar, he finally sees her for the beauty she is.
Maya worries that Matthew is only with him because she "saved" him and tries to move on with another guy. Eventually they work through it but another drama springs up. Matthew's father has a secret child with April. Maya sends Matthew to get to know his new sister not wanting to add to the scandal. Maya withdraws from him while he is away, telling him she doesn't love him anymore. She is hiding a huge secret from Matthew.
This couple is hot and as they struggle to figure out their emotions you can feel it with them. Maya's struggle to find family is a very real stuggle that many go through today. I really felt dor her. Many women have a "Matty" in their life. We are still waiting on him to figure out how great we are. No cliffhanger and HEA.

This is the 3rd story third in the Billion Scandals Series and we get to read about Mathew and Maya, Freckles who meet at a wedding where Maya’s step sister’s wedding. While working at the wedding Maya interacts with some of her family members and becomes sad she never meet them. Afterwards Maya’s watching the ocean before heading home and meets Mathew, Mattie and they become best friends, soul mates and six years later he’s returning to her shore town to surf and his private plane goes down. Maya is equipped, experienced and crazy enough to go out in the tropical storm to find him. After Mattie becomes dependent on Maya and sleeps and stays with her and her mom for months and he keeps Maya in the friend zone against what her heart tells her, that he’ll never see her as a woman being from the wrong side of society and how her father keep them a dirty secret from his other wife and kids. Mattie returns home with some big news he received and Maya disappears to find herself and to find love without Mattie. When Mattie sees Maya with another man he starts to realize what Maya really means to him. Trouble comes again and then Mattie becomes lost when he can’t find Maya. I love how they reconnect and how the entire family and friends discover secrets and surprises that come up along the way. Exceedingly good for a short book

I usually read these less than 3 hr novels for a quick escape with the understanding that the story will be kinda crap. I really liked this one though. Two folks who become best friends, fall in love, but the heroine can't accept the happiness due to low self worth and pushes the H away. Because the H was so overall good even though he failed to see that she loved him early on, it wouldn't have made sense for him to do something wrong. I usually want the H to do the screwing up but I thought the h's screwup is believable without making me hate her. Only two things I noticed as flaws 1. There were a few scenes where the thoughts and dialogue of the narrator was confusing and had to reread a few times to figure out who was talking 2. Sex o meter a little lower at 6.4/10 bc the scenes were so short and felt a bit cut off. Just enough foreplay details, but then essentially hallmark- channel-like fadeouts when you aren't expecting it. Overall 4.8/5 which is really really good for me for these short books that are harder to really empathize with the characters -- this one pulled it off. With the confusing family connections in some of the other stories alluded to... Not sure I want to read the rest of the series though.

The book blurb doesn't do this book justice! From one wedding comes a second book, this time involving Maya and Matthew who become best friends on site. They stick together through thick and thin as the blurb says until she keeps the biggest secret.

This book is well written and a total page turner but take note, you will need tissues!!! Tears will fall!

The characters are lovely, but as always with these friends to lover books one of them is blind to the other until it's almost too late whilst the other suffers in silence on the sidelines and the read screams at them both to learn to communicate properly. If only we the readers could get in there and talk some sense into them we'd have them sorted in no time lol. The supporting cast is a mix of new and old, from the previous book and I'm sure we will see them again as there are certainly more characters and story lines to progress.

I totally loved this book and recommend this and the one before; you should read and enjoy them both for yourself. xx

Sweet story. I really liked how they were best friends first. I can understand why Maya was okay with her unrequited love, even though it frustrated me. I’m glad Mattie pulled his head out and realized what he could have with Maya. Even though it was a bit childish that it took Maya moving on to figure it out, it was fun watching him get jealous and figure out what he was feeling. Their chemistry was great, and I loved how they were still best friends even after getting into a relationship. Maya clearly has a lot of baggage from a messed up childhood. I wish she would have reacted to things better. I get that she was trying to learn from her mom’s mistakes, and being a “shameful secret” would shape her personality but her choices were pretty selfish and childish. I’m not a fan of the secret baby trope, but this situation was a LOT better than April’s from the first book in the series. I feel like Matthew kind of gave up a bit too easily, and forgave a bit too easily, but he ended up being a really great character. Overall, a fun read.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

This is a fantastic series by Ms. L.A. Pepper!! I’ve really enjoyed it 😁 This book sends you on a roller coaster of emotions (in a good way!!). It’s beautifully written and will leave you wanting more!! I highly recommend this book!!

This book is about Matt and Maya. They first meet at a wedding reception, for Maya’s deceased father’s wife’s legitimate marriage (I know right!!) At the time, she is waitressing at this reception, and is 17 years old. She has never been able to meet her father’s family, bc she is his dirty little secret. She does get to see her half siblings, April and Jack. She also meets a 19 year old, Matt. He is a friend of the family.

6 years later, Maya and Matt are besties 🥰 Maya is in love with Matt, but he doesn’t know, and it goes unrequited. Matt crashes his plane and Maya goes to find him. It is in this timeframe, he realizes that he does love Maya 😍

Another secret pops up with Matt’s family, so Maya encourages him to focus on his family. Meanwhile, Maya also has a huge secret, so she tells Matt she doesn’t love him anymore 💔

Will Matt and Maya find their way back to each other?!?!?!

Come and see 😊

Maya is 17 and the illegitimate daughter of a billionaire. He chose his “real” family over Maya and her mom. She has a half sister April and a half brother Jack. Maya’s father died 6 months ago. April and Jack Hamilton’s mom, Barbara gets remarried and Maya works as one of the catering staff for the wedding. She watched her half siblings and wonders about them. She meets Matthew who knows who Maya is because his dad, Charles Beaumont, was best friends with Maya’s dad. They end up becoming best friends even though Maya has a huge crush on Matthew.

6 years later, Maya is 23 and pursuing her dreams. Matthew is supposed to visit and go surfing with her. The private plane, Matthew is flying goes down in the water. Maya ends up going out in her small boat and saving Matthew. In the following months, Matthew clings to Maya and their friendship.

Will Matthew get help and move on from the plane crash? Will Maya open up about her feelings for Matthew? Will they end up together or lose their friendship in the end? Will Maya ever meet her half siblings?

Loved how this book basically coincides with April Hamilton’s story.

Loved this book about Mya and Matthew.
Mya and Matthew also met at April’s mum wedding party while she was the bartender there and they had a connection straight away. They have been friends for six/seven years and Mya feelings for Matthew(mattie) have grown but he does not see that.
It take Matthew(mattie) a long time to see Mya has a woman instead of his best friend since his accident and she was dressed up that is when he noticed her.
I love while reading the book that we read both POVS of the characters though out the book and also how the other characters entwine from the other books into this one so that the story carries on with some shocks and surprises on the way with a HEA.

Well written entertaining and enjoyable read loved it.

May have a few spoilers
I’m telling you this is one heart stopping book. L.A. had my attention from the first chapter to the epilogue. Maya and Mattie’s story is so sweet and heartfelt that I couldn’t put it down. Maya and Mattie developed a friendship one summer night on the beach and that bond would not be broken. Maya was patient and sat back summer after summer while Mattie brought a new girlfriend home to try to impress. She fell in love with him the very first time she met him. Mattie had to have an eye opening experience to see what true love was right in front of his eyes. Their story will tug at your heart and you can’t help but hope they end up together. Maya has major family issues which will cause them trouble will they be able to fight against those problems to find a future together? I love this series and L.A. just gets better each book she writes.

Maya and Mattie meet when she is working a wedding reception. He later finds her crying on the beach and tries to comfort her. She tells him a secret that no one knows about her. She was related to the bride's children. Mattie knew about her but hadn't seen her before then his father was friends with hers. They have an instant connection and start spending any free time they have together. Maya's mom worries that she is going to repeat her mistakes and tells her that she can't let Mattie string her along. However, once Mattie sees her going out with someone else it wakes him up to what he could lose by hiding from his feelings. Will they finally get their happy ending?

This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
