Private Investigator Martina Monroe works for an organization that helps those women/children who are being stalked / abused by partners, etc. Her job has been her lifeline since her husband was killed a year ago.

Her last client couldn't be saved and Martina has turned more and more to the bottle. Not only is she jeopardizing her job... but maybe her life, as well.

She has a new client, a woman being stalked. She fears its someone sent by her abusive husband who is spending time in prison for attempted murder. Someone has been in her home ... and when she leaves the house, she feels someone watching.

If Martina doesn't get her act together, she may lose another client.

This is Martina's backstory ... when her loss was newer, and when she became a single mother and not convince she could do it all herself. Because of the nature of her job, she feels the need to show she can be everything to everyone ... and the heavy weight on her shoulders is destroying her.

The plot is well written, swirling around deftly drawn characters. It's a short read, barely over 100 pages, but its packed with action and emotion. I look forward to see if a new series is in the future.

This is a short, quick prequel to the Martina Monroe series by H.K. Christie. We are introduced to Martina Monroe who must battle her own demons and despair after the death of her husband in order to raise her daughter as a single parent and to focus on her job to help abused women. Even though it barely tops a hundred pages, there is plenty of action and substance to this short read.

This story line is good.
I listened to audio, and wished I hadn’t!
The narrator was deadpan and unemotional in a very emotional story.
I suggest you skip the audio and read the book.
I also suggest that this narrator either learn how to use emotion in her reading, or the get a new narrator.
I will avoid audio books with this narrator.

It was like a case of De ja Vu'

I enjoyed the character, Martina, and admired her strength and tenacity towards protecting her clients. The story wasn't of great length, but it was of great content. I'll read more from this author.

Crashing Down by H.K. Christie
Martina Munroe was battling her own demons when she tried to rescue a battered wife but was too late.
Her next client had a stalker and from then on it was simply read as fast as I could to get to the end.
Very well written and highly recommended.

Great detective thriller

This story kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of drama and suspense. The main character Martina is as tough as she is flawed. She manages to pull herself together. Can't wait to read more adventures with Martina.

Good introduction

I enjoyed the fact that I got to see just how Martina got her start. Her flawed beginning. How she got where she is now. Goes to show how a star can rise from the ashes.

I loved reading Martinas backstory. This is before she had her life together. She was grieving her husband who was killed and trying to single parent convinced she could do it all. She was trying to give 110% to her clients, be the perfect parent, and prove to the world she was coping.

When Martina loses a client she becomes hyper focused on her next clients safety while falling deeper and deeper into the bottle of alcohol she kept stashed with her at all times.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
