Lady Bethany Wellstone’s season in London was cut short when her father is killed in a duel. She believes it is a sign—a sign that she was never meant to marry. Besides, no one can ever live up to the man she’s secretly loved for most of her life—a man who also happens to be one of her brother’s closest friends.

“Chase” the Baron of Chaswick, is far too much of a rake to notice the likes of Bethany. Aside from being the most beautiful man she’s ever known, he’s charming, kind and all a woman could ever want. She’ll suffer her unrequited love from the sidelines. It ought to be enough. And it is.

Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs.

After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything in 2008; our business, our home, even our car.

At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender (Insert irony). Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.

And then the energy market dropped off.

And then my dog died.

I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only my imagination.
After publishing over twenty novels now, with one having been nominated for RWA’s Distinguished ™RITA Award in 2019, I am happy to tell you that I have finally found my place in life.

I mean, it's not a BAD book, but definitely not Best of 2020... I kept seeing this book advertised on Instagram "best BJ scene ever!.." and on Facebook, so I was intrigued to try a new author and see what all of the hype was about. So I spent money to purchase it (something I rarely do as I have gobs of books waiting to be read)

The Good:
The hero and heroine were both completely likeable characters, easy to root for them, no villain in the background to make me anxious as I read... just a sweet story. A trope that I love, heroine is secretly in love with her brother's BFF and he has never noticed her before, until now. I did like how the heroine and the mother-in-law had anxiety/emotional issues that made them human and relatable to readers.

The Annoying:
The entire story took place in... 3 days. Maybe 4? But I am to believe this hero went from not ever acknowledging this heroine- to -can't live without her in 3-4 days? This would have been so much better had the author stretched the length of time out a bit more. At least a month, geez.

While the heroine's OCD/anxiety was initially something new to read about, it soon felt like it overtook the story a bit. It seemed like every single conversation she had, she was counting the letters of at least one word. Which in turn made me stop the flow of my reading to count also. So while it was interesting to see how her anxiety was handled, it was a bit disruptive for me while trying to read.

There were also several scenes where I felt I had missed something. Like the writing was rushed and segments were skipped. For example, the hero arrived to the heroine's house. He walked in to stand in the doorway to the receiving room. A few comments were made amongst the guests in the room, then it was referenced about him commenting back while sitting on the couch. It was an important scene, H/h seeing each other for the first time after their scandal. I was like wait a second, how did he get to the couch, normally actions like that are described... Like ‘he walked across the room, holding eye contact with the heroine as he got closer, etc’. So several instances where I would stop and ask myself if I accidentally skipped a paragraph or what.

The Lie:
There was nothing Cocky about this Baron. He was a run-of-the-mill, supposedly a rake in his past, nice guy hero. The only thing cocky going on was the author's like of trying to use the word whenever she could, lol. Cocksure, cocky, stirring in his cock, accidentally referring to someone as Lord Cockfield (instead of whatever their name really was). Which then leads me to sexy times...

The Disappointing:
The book starts off with an odd spanking. I didn't buy that whole scene, I felt the scandal could have been more believable if not so over-the-top with a spanking. But after that, so much was then told to us. I never ever never felt romantic yearnings from either of them. There was bragging of what he wanted to do to her sexually, etc. but when they actually got down to business, I kind of felt like the door was half-way closed to us as readers. It was extremely unromantic, uneventful and rushed thru. Nothing steamy at all.

Regardless, I am still interested in reading about all of the other side characters and plan to look for more of her books.

Speed Review: This is a tough one because the parts that I liked I really liked and the parts I didn’t like were just because they were boring and aimless. I skimmed until I got back to the good parts.

So, while I didn’t hate anything here, it just wasn’t nearly as well paced and executed as the first book. I felt like neither MCs were fully developed and thought through, so I never knew their motivations until practically the end. They were fine enough, but there was a lot to have happened in a short period and a lot of time was spent elsewhere—not focused on Chase and Bethany.

But my biggest issue was a total of, like, 5 days passes in the entirety of this book. That is something I would only accept in road trip romp. Maybe. Probably not, though. But here? Uh-uh. She gets ruined, married, semi-concusses herself, sex is had… and that is kind of it. A little more happens, but it felt really rushed. I felt the emotional development was only getting going by the 75% mark, where I’d prefer it up by the 45-55% mark at the latest (generally). It would have been so much better if months passed. Ah well.

Anyways. It was very ‘meh’ but I’m holding out for the pregnancy book I keep hearing about, and I’ve got one more to go before I get there.

Ooh what goes on in Regency homes will make your hair curl !!
Annabelle has always been one of my most favourite authors to read, with this series she’s going a little steamier, but still with the passion and romance and stunning characters.

Our Baron and our Lady have both had broken homes growing up, they need to give and receive love wether they realise it or not, they are no longer alone, they have each other, now they just have to learn to lean on each other for support, that will take trust and a strong friendship that hopefully can grow into something stronger.

A wonderful and enjoyable book to read, a really heartwarming experience, one that leaves you at the end very satisfied and filled with warmth.

I adored the book and can see so many possibilities for the other characters whatever their rank and status, I can’t wait for more.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

As one of her brother’s best friends. She has loved him for years.
When one of the debutants plans to compromise him, she rushes to save him. When he mistakenly compromised her. 😱 by lifting her skirt and spanking her, thinking she is his x mistress. And then finding a audience of ladies watching in shock.

A standard recipe for an HR story. Heroine loves, and the hero is late to the party - A scandal driven marriage turns into a love match! I think, flipping the heroine onto her stomach to lose her virginity on the wedding night was one of the worst, impersonal ways of doing the act. For shame, Chase, for shame. Apart from that, sweet story.

Masterfully written story of two people who are perfect for each other, but circumstances have made their relationship very difficult. Lady Bethany Fitzwilliam has had to be the serious, proper one in the family. When a terrible situation happens with her brother's friend, and the man that she has quietly adored her whole life, it's impossible for Bethany to hold in her anxiety. Chase, the Baron of Chaswick, appears to be so sure of himself but he has so many family responsibilities he's drowning in them. He can't imagine taking a wife, and having to take care of her as well. Loved these characters and the way they come to realize their feelings and their strengths. Can't recommend enough.

I did enjoy this book very much! I just loved the characters of Bethany and Chase. Bethany had loved Chase for many years but he hadn’t noticed her, only saw her as his friend’s sister. Bethany had always acted as her family expected her to, the obedient sister/ daughter. Chase had a reputation of a rake and although he was a handsome man, there was so much more to him. I did like the way that Bethany’s confidence in herself grew as she and Chase got to know each other better. I enjoyed the banter between the friends and look forward to reading more of their stories. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it l all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cocky Baron
Regency Cocky Gents Series #2

𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗯

* Secret Crush * Brother's Best Friend * Compromised

Three years ago, Lady Bethany Fitzwilliam’s season in London was cut short when her father was killed in a duel. Shaken by the tragedy, she devotes herself to her grieving mother, sister, and brother and settles into a life of spinsterhood.

Besides, no one can ever live up to “Chase” the Baron of Chaswick, who she’s secretly loved for most of her life —
and who also happens to be one of her brother’s closest friends.

Aside from being the most beautiful man she’s ever known, Chase is charming, kind and all a woman could want. He’d never notice a girl like Bethany and so she’ll suffer her unrequited love from afar. It ought to be enough. And it is.
That is…
until he has no choice but to notice her.

𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

When circumstances force them together, which way will they choose ...

Since the group of friends had been introduced in the previous book, I am eager to learn more about them, the duke butler!
From their silly banters, crazy wager and excesses in all pursuits, they are a bunch of intriguing rakes.
Now it is Chase’s story, I love how Mrs Anders does not do things by halves. From Chase’s nickname origin to Bethany’s OCD. Everything is well thought and interlock like a perfect many pieces puzzle.
Lady Bethany has always been the obedient, unremarkable daughter, so much, no one thinks much about her, her desires or her safety. She is there but unseen.
After the drama that altered her family’s quiet happiness, she moved one step forward from wallflower to invisible, guilt like for all her siblings sticking to her. It leaves her all the time to admire from afar her brother’s best friend, a man who not once looked at her like a man to a woman.
Chase wears well his moniker, the king of running errands or letting others chase him without getting caught. Until this fated night.
He is a man overwhelmed, trying to atone his anger, his regrets with the persons needing him. Yet, after years of doing so, he feels at the end of his tether.
His carefree attitude is partly an act, it smooths his thoughts, this way he steps for a time from his concerns, but it is only temporarily as each new dawn brings them back.

While the span of time of this story is short, a few days only, it is very intense, as Chase for the first time has to look at Bethany, to see her for someone else than his best friend’s sister, to acknowledge she is also a woman with curves, dreams and hopes. While Beth learns there is more to his easy-going attitude, that he is more than his pretty face, with his share of problems.
They are the other half of one another, one soothing the other and the second empowering the first.
Once more the author demonstrates her talent at bringing together flawed and larger than life characters.

A Spicy Brother’s Best Friend Romance

A well written love story that incorporates past and present issues. Bethany counts letters in words to calm herself and she likes things orderly. At the first ball of the season, she has resigned herself to spinster status. She has crushed on Chase, her brother’s best friend, for the last 12 years. So when she finds out there is a plan to trap him, she must warn him. Well he ends up mistaking her for someone else, spanks her, and exposes her bottom to the gossips of society.

So they embark on a reputation saving marriage that consists of second guessing, jealousy, secrets, passion, and love. This is one of my favorite tropes and oh so yummy and spicy! I kept having to slow myself down as I wanted to read faster and faster to figure out what happened next. I am really enjoying this series and the characters. I can’t wait to read the “butler’s” story! I received an ARC of this book and chose to post my review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story - it was so good! I laughed at the bottom spanking incident that Chase gave Bethany. I adored Bethany, especially because she was so anxiety-ridden. But I also loved how Chase put her at ease. I loved it! Next up #3.

Cocky Baron is the second book in the Regency Cocky Gents series by Annabelle Anders, and it’s a fabulous second book. Although this is the second book in the series, it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. You will get a bit more from it if you’ve read the prior books, though.

As a big fan of Annabelle Anders, I’m always eager to see what the author’s next book offers and find myself going in with high expectations. Although my expectations were high, this one did not disappoint. In fact, Cocky Baron is one of my favourite books from Annabelle Anders. It hooked me from the first page, hitting me with all the feels, ensuring I could not put this one down. The more I read, the more I loved it.

Without a doubt, this is a must read for fans of historical romance. With plenty packed into the pages, this is a story that will have you devouring it in no time and will have you desperate for the next book.

This is my first book by this author that I didn't like at all. After a scintillating start to the series, this one is like being plummeted to ground zero. 😣

It 's a very run of the mill story line with zero depth to the plot or characters. I couldn't like Bethany. Even her sister Tabitha is a disappointment. The bar was set by Charlie,so anyone else will be a far second.

Chase is the redeeming factor of the book. He truly is the white Knight. The remaining Cocky Gents are pretty nonexistent here.

I sincerely hope Mrs.Anders thinks through her Cocky Mister storyline. Tabitha will need some form.of resurrection considering she's been shown as a giggling ninny. Will Chase's sisters too get a HEA? Now, that I would love to read.

Recommended: meh 😐

Wow! I loved this book by Annabelle Anders. This second book in the Cocky Gents series brings together Chase, the Baron of Chaswick, and Lady Bethany, sister to Julian the Earl of Westerley and the hero of the first book in the series. Chase may come across as a rake to the ton, but is he really? Bethany at the ripe old age of 23 has been relegated to the wallflower chairs at social events and she has had an unrequited crush on Chase, her brother’s best friend, since she was a child. When Bethany discovers a plot to “catch” Chase she makes a misguided attempt to save him from a forced marriage. But, what happens if she is the one who is caught? I loved the set-up for this book and so appreciated the quirkiness and insecurities of Bethany. Both Chase and Bethany have dealt with grief and trauma and have adapted their personalities and actions to try to minimize hurt. The author has done an outstanding job of developing their personalities and explaining their choices. With their pasts, could the two find happiness together? There was just the right amount of tension and angst in the plot to make me feel for both of the main characters. The romance was slowly developed but ultimately was passionate and hot. I loved the epilogue and hope that we see more of this lovely couple in future books in the series.

THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR!!! Wow… WOW… I am speechless. Cocky Baron by Annabelle Anders is book 2 in the Cocky Gents series and though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. What I loved about this story is it has scenarios that you can relate to today and the story so original you will read nothing like it. Annabelle has a true gift for story telling and her writing is exceptional. It was easy to read, follow and the descriptions so spot on you get a real feel for the regency era. Annabella also has such a unique way of bring up every emotion and I actually laughed out loud at one of the funniest scandals that I have ever read. I just can’t say enough about this book. This story has a huge scandal, a forced marriage, a wallflower, being plain to beautiful, kindness, thinking of others before yourself, a handsome rake that is isn’t at all as he appears, a loving family, a secret past of a father, living in a world of her own, good friend that give good advise, a nasty debutant, being proud & strong, not realizing what is before your very eyes and yes even love. I am highly recommending you read this book. It was SPA-TAC-U-LAR!!!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

I don’t think this was life changing per say but it was a really enjoyable read. Bethany has loved Chase for quite but that didn’t mean she had completely given up. They was an funny scene early on when she tries flirty with him and he thinks something is wrong. It was adorable. Chase was a fake rake i suppose but like was he? That feels like history revision on both their parts, more like only a rake for his wife moving forward. But he had a lot of kindness towards women, and I appreciated that. He took good care of his family. I do have to say I did find some things unsatisfactory in the end. Beth confronted her brother but her mother and sister even in their last conversations were almost cruel to Beth, she deserved better and I know the next book is about Tabatha and I DONOT like her. At all… but I have read Lucas story so it was nice to see him mentioned, I think that is my fav story in this world.

I loved Bethany and her tendency to count and keep things in order since we first met her. I love how she has worshipped Chase for years and believes it is a secret. That she wants to save him from being trapped into a marriage with a not very nice woman and ends up trapped herself. I love how she begins to become her own woman rather than the sister or daughter she is expected to be. And I love how Chase finds that love strengthens you and doesn’t weaken you. Such a great story!

It was sooo hard to put this book down once started. It was well written. A page turner. The steamy level was amazing between these two.
Chase and Bethany are just perfect for each but they have a lot to learn about each other. Bethany has loved Chase for a long time and he has been to blind to see it. Chase is known as a rake among the Ton but he's just has secrets he doesn't want the Ton to know. He can ve overprotective when it comes to his friends and family.
When Bethany learns of a young lady is planning to entrap him into marriage by being caught with him in the garden. She knows she has to warn him. By she didn't think that he and she would be the ones caught and with her bum showing.

Cocky Baron is the second book in the Regency Cocky Gents series by Annabelle Anders. Although part of a series this can easily be read as a standalone novel.

This is only the second book by this author that I have read but the first full-length one. I read the blurb, "Secret Crush * Brother’s Best Friend * Compromised" and it sounded fabulous so I knew I just had to read it.

I'll admit that it wasn't what I was expecting. I thought that there would be a bit more of a forbidden love thing going on with Lady Bethany Wellstone having secret rendezvous with “Chase” the Baron of Chaswick. Her brother wouldn't be happy that his best friend and sister were an item and I thought they would have to find a way to be together with his blessing. I may have been totally wrong with what I thought would be happening, but what does happen is nearly as good as that.

Bethany finds herself in a compromising position with Chase quite by accident and to both of their mortification. Bethany has loved Chase for most of her life so when he has to offer marriage to her to save her reputation it is a double-edged sword. She has dreamed of being married to him, but the dream was of them being a love match. Not one where he was forced to marry her. Chase, on the other hand, has always liked Bethany but has never thought of her as a woman. If he has to be shackled to anybody he doesn't mind terribly that it is her. BUT he still dreads what her brother will do when he finds out. Before that happens our couple has a chance to spend time together, to make sure society accepts them and in Chase's case, a chance to see Bethany as more than his friend's little sister.

Could he come to love her, he certainly respects and cares about her, but will that be enough to make them both happy? The longer he spends with Bethany the more Chase finds himself at least attracted to her. They have some fabulously passionate moments but he is convinced it's just lust, not love. What will it be, will they have their happy ever after or will poor Bethany remain in love with a man who could end up resenting having to marry her?

Read the book to find out. You won't be disappointed!

Cocky Baron, by Annabelle Anders. I had a great time reading this book. Annabelle did not disappoint her readers. I fell head over hills with Chase’s character. The things he did with Bethany had me swooning with embarrassment just for reading the steamy scenes. This book was brilliantly written.
Bringing the issues of children dealing with their parents early onset of dementia while at the same time running two separate households, and being newly married. Annabelle, gave her readers a peek inside on how one would cope with these issues. Also she shared how one would juggle these life altering situations. As you read more about Chase the book reveals how he worked so hard at protecting his family, like his father. Beth, household had its family issues as well.
With her brother gone, Beth wanted to live in the background and have her sister be the one to be noticed and married. Beth had no intentions of being married, however she always wanted to be Chase’s wife. Beth, confidence was really low about herself. Then one evening at ball, under the cover of darkness in the garden, a mistaken identity and no undergarments put Beth in a very bad compromising position. The situation was entertaining to read only because Beth was tough as nails and she was standing her ground with Chase.
At the same time spectators gathered to see what the yelling was about. This then leads to a hasty wedding. I enjoyed reading about two strangers relying on each other for support, to overcome what they feel are shortfalls, when actually these shortfalls are them only being human. Annabelle shared with her readers the love and passion that Chase and Beth had for each other. In some parts of the book, you thought this would be the moment that they would declare their love for one another, but it would be one more piece to the puzzle that would bond them together. That puzzle would make their romance whole and very special.
My fellow readers, I recommend this book book. Until next time... read on. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

I used to shy away from Regency books. I always thought that it was a time period where people didn't work, people were snooty, and the gossips ruled the day. Until I read Annabelle's books, now I can't seem to get enough of her writing.

I'll begin with my favorite lines from this story:

(Chase) His gaze dropped to her mouth. "And that kissing you could very well become a favorite passtime of mine."
(Betheny) "You don't have to say that."
(Chase) "I know."

Betheny spent most of her life pleasing others, doing what any respectful woman was brought up to do. Sitting in a chair along the wallflower's area of the ball she'd come into some information about a woman trying to trap Chase into marriage. A man she had dreamt of more times than she cared to count. And she counts words, it's a nervous habit of hers, one she couldn't stop. Chase was one of her brother's best friends....and she adored him. For years. She couldn't allow this to happen, to allow him to be trapped. Regretfully she found herself in a very compromising situation and in turn, had trapped him herself.

Chase was rake. He'll admit it and not apologize for it. He had enough duties caring for his family now that his father was gone and marriage was not in the cards for him. He'd rather spend his time gambling, drinking, and smoking a cheroot. After what his father did, he didn't trust love. But now after last night, he had to marry. He had to make it right.

What a lovely story!! My favorite part of this story was that although Betheny had a habit of counting words, Chase didn't try to change it. He loved her for it and tried to help her through her stress, which was comical to read. Each one had a lot to learn about love and how to trust one another. Great read. I was gifted with an arc and wanted to post a review.

Starring Lady Bethany Fitzwilliam and Triston “Chase” Aaron, Baron of Chaswick.

Tropes: Unrequited Love, brother’s best friend, friends to Lovers, compromised, and married in haste.

Oh. Em. Gee!! This book pressed all my love buttons!! There were so many sigh-worthy moments. Chase and Bethany are WOW!!

Chase may seem like a Devil-may-care kinda guy, but he is weighted down with a lot of responsibilities. He has so many plates spinning in the air trying to make everyone he loves happy that he begins to spread himself thin. I love it when he realizes that he now has Bethany to share his burdens with... a strong partner to lean on. It truly was beautiful when he started opening up to her.... le sigh!!

Bethany is an overlooked wallflower on the road to being a spinster... who also happens to be carrying a torch for Chase for forever. I love her quirkiness and habit of counting words when she’s nervous or anxious. She made me chuckle a lot with her antics. She was the perfect partner for Chase!!!

Chase and Bethany truly complimented each other well. And let’s not forget the heat between these two, y’all. There were scenes that made me slow clap while blushing... mmmm’kay?! This is Annabelle Anders’ hottest book yet. Wowza!!!

Annabelle Anders’ books are getting steamier.... and I totally approve!!

My star rating: 5 stars
Ugly cried AF. Major book hangover. Characters and storyline were freaken amazeballs. Made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will definitely be reading this story over and over and over again!!

The romance between The Baron of Chaswick and Lady Bethany Fitzwilliam is one of the sweetest stories with steam that I have read in a long time. It will draw you in right from the beginning as you will truly be able to feel the genuine caring and regard these two have for each other.

This is a tender story about what can happen when there is a shift in ones thinking and they begin to really see what has been right in front of them all along. What happens when they take a chance on truly trusting someone and in doing so find that one person who becomes the anchor in their life. After all, someone needs to protect the protector.

In my opinion, Anders excels at writing multi-dimensional characters with many layers. What you see is not always what you get. She proves this again as both the H/h experience the wonder of re-discovering someone they thought they knew.

Watching this relationship bloom reminded me of watching a flower open its petals to the sun. Chase and Bethany intuitively support each other and connect on that unexplainable emotional level. I happen to be referring to that mysterious wonder that “just is”.

Readers who adore the " brother’s best friend” and “friends to lover’s” troupes will love this book. Actually, EVERY romance lover should read this story. I can guarantee you will be glad that you did.

I received and ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Three years ago, Lady Bethany Fitzwilliams' season in London was cut short when her father was killed in a duel. Shaken by the tragedy, she devotes herself to her grieving mother, sister, and brother and settles into a life of spinsterhood. Besides, no one can ever live up to "Chase" the Baron of Chaswick, her brother’s best friend, who she’s secretly loved for most of her. When she hears of a plan to compromise Chase Bethany rushes to warn him but things don’t go to plan.
As with all the author’s books a very well written book with strong characters who have plenty of depth, it also flows effortlessly & never lags. A delicious mix of secret crush, brother’s best friend & compromised, which with the author's spin make these tried & tested tropes feel refreshingly original. I've never read a heroine being compromised the way Bethany was – the image it conjured had me chuckling repeatedly throughout the book. I loved both Chase & Bethany both from broken families but together they healed each other, both were caring, compassionate & misunderstood. I loved the road to their HEA & can’t wait for their friends & siblings to have their stories especially Blackheart.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Cocky Baron
Regency Cocky Gents, Book 2
Annabelle Anders, author

A very quirky and scintillating sweet story. I quote, "Life presents one with moments to give and moments to take."

This is Lady Bethany Fitzwilliam and Lord Triston Aaron Corbet, Baron of Chaswick's story. A tale of marriage by consequence due to unacceptable behavior. Although Bethany has loved Triston for twelve years, hence, it's no hardship on her part to marry the Lord. However, will society's well known rake eventually return the love for Bethany? Will his secrets destroy all chances of a happy and fulfilled marriage? If the secrets he has kept from Bethany don't destroy the chances of marital bliss, will Bethany be able to understand and thusly satisfy Triston's insatiable sexuality?

Read this next installment of Ms. Anders' Regency Cocky Gents to find the answers for yourself. I promise you'll be happy you did. It's quite entertaining and enjoyable, as I have come to know all her books to be. I most highly recommend this novel.

I was afforded an advanced reader copy from the author. I leave this review of my own volition.

I want to start by saying I loved a quirky heroine and Bethany Fitzwilliam is a little quirky. This story is one of forced marriage and it turns out to be delightful! As usual the characters and storyline are engaging and it’s so enjoyable. This can be read as a standalone, but there is a little overlap of characters. Oh, this book has a pretty high heat level: steamy for sure! Another great book in this series! I can’t wait for the rest!
