Fractured Hearts

Rate this book
"Her heart had been broken enough; she wasn’t willing to have it happen again."

When Lexie Daniels gets offered the job of tour photographer for world-famous rock band, Fractured, it comes as a shock. But not as much as the long-dormant feelings the band’s sinfully gorgeous lead singer awakens in her. It’s the first spark of desire she’s felt for any man since she lost her husband three years ago.

Unfortunately, Connor Byrne is a playboy rock star with no interest in love, not to mention the man she’s supposed to be working for. He’s the last person in the world she should be drawn to. But then again, maybe one night with him is exactly what she needs to bring her body back to life.

Except, there's more to the man behind the rock star persona than she thought. And it turns out one night isn’t enough for either of them. But even as the passion between them burns hotter with every touch, Lexie knows she can’t afford to give her still-healing heart to a man as out of reach as Connor.

Because everyone knows an already fractured thing is fragile.

One more break, and it might end up shattered forever.

Fractured Hearts is the first book in the Fractured Rock Star Romance series, and can be read as a standalone. It's a steamy, slow-burn love story with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed HEA.

A very well written and enjoyable rockstar romance read!

Lexie was hired to create an official photobook of the famous rock band’s ‘Fractured’ upcoming tour and Connor was the band’s lead singer.
Lexie and Connor were likeable characters, with great chemistry, yet their vulnerabilities led to plenty of push and pull between them.

The story had a fantastic flow and was nicely paced, all characters were very well developed and portrayed and the plot line was very engaging.

I would have liked a few less steamy scenes, but it’s a rockstar romance read after all... 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is about a rockstar who doesn’t do commitment and a widowed photographer who’s just trying to do her job while resisting the crazy attraction she has for him.

This was a good book. It had all the elements you would want in a romance but it just was missing something to make it great. I liked reading about Lexie and Connor. They had good tension in the beginning and some spicy moments. The bus scene and the small photo session scene was fun to read about.

There were some moments in this book that I loved and some that left me wanted more. This is light on the rockstar. It was low angst and although the story’s lifetime is throughout a tour, the band is starting to feel burnt out. There are no wild parties full of drugs or alcohol, no obsessed fans catching them out in public or really any aspect of the rockstar life besides the concerts and a chill after party. There just wasn’t much to connect them to being the world-famous artist they claimed to be.

I’m excited to see where this goes for the rest of the band and will be picking up the next book eventually.

3⭐️ Romantic, but Repetitive ⭐️

I enjoyed this book's content and storyline, but not the way the story was executed.

Lexie is a photographer hired to follow the band Fracture on tour. Connor is the broody lead singer, and they fall for each other fast. Since the book is written in a dual POV, we know everything that’s happening all the time. But the constant whining, the misunderstandings, and misinterpretations between the two characters grew annoying and repetitive.

Lexie is a grieving widow, and Connor lost his mother as a boy, which caused his father's grief to consume everything. This gave Connor issues with his own grief. In a way, it’s a sweet and profound topic, but it came across as immature.

The first half was sweet and romantic, though a little cringey because the third person narration felt strange.

Lexie is described as lusting over every band member, and her inner dialogue focused so much on their physical appearance, it drove me a little nuts. At one point, I was worried it was going to be a "why choose" book, a trope I absolutely despise since fairytales are more realistic and relatable.
I also didn't like how Lexie went from a strong, independent woman to one who believed her dead husband wouldn't understand her choices. I did, however, like that she was a mature woman with a real career. Now if she only stayed that way..

Connor is unsure about his future and is constantly in his own head. Neither character can communicate with the other, which is the root of the problem for them, for their relationship, and FOR THE READER. This lack of communication caused the story to drag a lot after the 50% mark. Honestly this could have been a great story for me, but there is a lot of kitchen sink reality and mundane descriptions on how to use photoshop etc. that dulls the vibe for me. It’s realism more than escapism.

Should you read it? It's not on my list of recommendations for a friend.

New author wows this Booklover❤

This debut author knows exactly how to conjure up a sexy, irresistable, smoldering AF, rockstar like nobody's business!  If I was wearing glasses right now, they'd be completely fogged.  Man... this lady has spun a story, created a world that I can get behind and get totally lost in.  Fractured is one hot band with the kind of intoxicating men a girl could spend hours fantasizing about.  With all that sensual tension and those heated connections, its no wonder the strong, independent ladies that end up by their side can't help but fall hard for them. The beauty of their kind, caring, gold plated hearts was something to behold and the smitten men of Fractured would agree completely.

This author's superpower is blending the onstage presence of the band, their tight friendships which showcase the love and respect they have for one another. With descriptions that paint the picture emotions in every scene, the characters clearly jump off the pages with personality and charisma that won't quit.  I loved that I couldn't leave it lie for long before I needed to keep on reading, but still not wanting the story to end.

L.M. Dalgleish has gone from an exciting, new to me author, to a permanent addiction I don't want to live without. I sure hope these first two books are only the beginning and morph into a Fractured rock world I can immerse my Booklover facination in for years to come.  This is a hell yes recommendation from me for anyone who adores an amazing musician or 4 in their lives!

L. M. Dalgleish, is this really your debut novel? Holy cow, I’m impressed!

In this story, we have two wounded souls, each one afraid to open up for different reasons. Connor has been abandoned by his father at 16 after his mother dies from cancer. Shipped to America from Ireland, with only an aunt to raise him. (Our boy has some abandonment issues) Lexie married her high school sweetheart. After only two years, her husband was killed. (Our girl has closed heart) She’s thrown her broken spirit into her photography business until she is finally making a living as a photographer. Connor is looking for a photographer for his band and finds something magical in Lexie’s work.

I will admit to being burned out by the manwhore rock star. After years of being a playboy to thousands of women, suddenly they are looking for something more?! Anywho, despite my frustration with that plot, this book worked for me. This story isn’t an angsty, drama fest, it’s a character driven, healing romance. There is flirting, banter, and some smokin hot chemistry between Lexie and Connor.

Lexie was a wonderful character. I felt her sorrow, but also could see how she had slowly began to recover from the loss of her husband. She was wary of Connor, as she should have been, knowing she needs to protect her heart. Connor is feeling tired of the same ole thing. What used to bring him joy, is now slowly sucking the life out of him.
The reasons he had wanted to be in a band since he was a teenager were still real to him. Being surrounded by music, his friends, the adoration of fans, had been all he ever wanted; the thought of it had always been like balm for his soul. That it felt like it wasn’t enough for him anymore was difficult for him to handle.
I love how the healing process that Lexie goes through with her photography is very similar to the healing Connor has with his music. Artists, no matter their medium, find such beautiful ways to share their pain with the world.

Can I just say that impromptu, intimate photo session was HOT.

I really loved the end of this book but craved a deeper connection of healing between the two mc’s. I enjoy that deep dive into a character’s soul and wished we a few more moments of them working through their pain together. Mostly Connor, because he was so dang closed off, he needed a verbal ass-kicking from his bandmate to see the truth.

I love books that have Rock Stars who fall for the non famous (think David Grohl). Connor has the looks, charm, voice and sex appeal that can knock the panties right off anyone within earshot, that is until the jaded rocker meets widowed photographer Lexie.
I will give Lexie credit for holding out as much as she could and Connor letting her know exactly what he wanted, but like any man in this situation he totally screws it up. I did like the meddling guitarist Tex and he's contribution to the push and pull of the relationship, in fact the you are given enough info on the band members to pique your interest in their up coming stories.
But back to this one, while Lexie & Connor are doing the should I -shouldn't I dance - it has been done before. This book was a little too predictable and a personal non-preference of mine, it had too much of the same internalizations. It's by no means a badly written or even a bad book, it's a me thing.

Ms. Dalgliesh and I are both rockstar romance authors and have been floating around the Amazon charts together for a while now. I was really excited to take a break from writing to read the Fractured series, and it didn’t disappoint!

I love that - even though we are halfway around the world and didn’t know each other - we both have Irish Connors and a love for music-related therapy.

I also love a great rockstar series, and this entire series delivers. In spades. I highly recommend getting lost in the world of Fractured.

This was a solid 3.5* - rounded up. The writing is really good, and I want to like the book more than I did, given the author's ability to convey the emotional foundation of the story and the character's background. However, regardless of excellent character development, this instalment has too much angsty push-pull with copious sex scenes trying to tie the couple together vs communication and dialogue.

This read was sandwiched between other books with exceptional writing by well-established authors, which may be unfairly reflected in my thoughts about Fractured Hearts. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding effort as a first novel, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series down the road.

I must give the author credit for the description of that last photo-shoot scene between the MCs. Wooohhh, I never read anything like it!

Who gave you the idea that photographers shoot in black and white IN camera? We shoot in RAW, and then do whatever the hell we need to do for the image we "see" in post processing. And WHAT photographer worth their salt lugs around a fucking cumbersome tripod everywhere? There is a time and place for a tripod, on tour is not one. Trust me, I've done plenty of concert and artist photography. Put the fucking camera IN her hand. We FEEL our images as much as we SEE them. End of lesson on photography.

I won't even go into all the other issues this book has. If you're an Aussie author writing about American characters, get an American editor, not another Aussie. You have A LOT of "Australianisms" in the book. It's distracting. My list of "issues" with this story is a mile long, but I'm done.

M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Lexie is a photographer who is living each day to the best of her ability. After losing her husband in a tragic car accident, Lexie had to learn how to breath, survive and live again. When she's contacted to photograph a popular rock band, she isn't sure she's the right person for the job. She isn't used to that type of photography. However, she knows that she should take it - should live that.

Connor has everything he's ever wanted. He's successful, gets to sing with his friends and is adored by women everywhere. But, he's also feeling like something is missing. While he knows that he doesn't feel the same as he used to about his career, he also knows that he doens't want to let any of his friends down. When he asks to have creative license on a new book coming out about the band, and sees Lexie's photos, he knows that she is the one for the project. Actually meeting her, seals the deal.

Lexie is amazing at connecting with people. I loved her character so much. She was able to draw out the bandmates' individual aspects with an artists view point and a friendly spin. Watching her take what Connon dished out was hard. I wanted to shake them both at times, but mostly him. It was difficult to see him lash out and for her to just take it. While she was a strong woman, she was also meak in a way that I found a little annoying.

Overall, I loved this book and hope that the other band members get their chance too.

Sweet! Sassy! Suspenseful! It is also heart-tugging!

Both Lexie and Connor are trying to find their way back from loss, rejection and loneliness. Lexie is hired to be the band's photographer on their upcoming tour. But along the journey they hurt each other deeply.

Unfortunately, Lexie has Survivor Remorse after losing her husband in a car accident. Connor feels totally worthless because of his selfish father's rejection, when Connor was eleven years old. So they both have huge trust issues.

When Connor is hurt, he lashes out and his angry words cut Lexie to the core. Will she be able to forgive him?

I love rockstar romance and widow's second love stories, so this was a winner for me. Lexie is a badass photographer hired to tour with the world-famous band Fractured. Connor is the band's singer. Both of them are emotionally unavailable as Lexie is still grieving the lost of her husband three years before and Connor is struggling with abandonment issues from his childhood. But their chemistry cannot be denied.

I really loved all the characters in this. Lexie is headstrong, independent, and incredibly sweet. In fact, the whole band is incredibly sweet. Connor would occasionally express jealousy or anger in less-than-ideal ways, but by and large that band is a whole busload of alpharoll goodness.

Great writing and thoroughly enjoyable story. I can't wait to read the other band members stories.

ENTERTAINING!!

Fractured Hearts is an impressive debut novel for a first time romance novelist, so kudos to L.M. Dalgleish. With Connor, we have the necessary elements needed to satisfy any ardent fan: tall, dark, handsome, sexy, charming and charismatic hero - check. And Lexie is the ultimate example of an ideal romance heroine - independent, beautiful, fun, interesting, likeable and witty. Lots of angst, sexual frustration, steam and tension - check, check and double check. Everything needed to entertain readers for hours, and start a series off to a great beginning!

Meh.

Sexy lead singer of a band meets a widowed photographer. They both have trauma and don’t want a relationship, but decide to have a little concert tour fling instead.

Fast-paced, predictable, steamy bits, lots of pining, emotional moments, and a predictable and annoying third act breakup (seriously, it was REALLY unnecessary (of course, they rarely are)). 🙄

Overall, I liked this book. It was a hard “ok”. I might read the next book because I really want romance book-lover Tex to find love. My Scottish guitarist deserves love!

3.5 stars. Two strong MCs, each striving for excellence in their chosen creative pursuits yet dealing with past grief and loss, find something unexpectedly special, healing and spicy together in this rockstar romance. I liked that there was realism in the ups and downs of their relationship, and the band’s experiences on tour. There’s also some nice banter and found family moments with the rest of the band, each well differentiated, and whose own romances will, I imagine, feature in the rest of the series.

I was enjoying this book up until the end. I didn’t like how the mmc put blame on the fmc for unintentionally hurting him. Like dude, if you break up with a girl, she is well within her right to take you seriously, not talk to you, and leave. I think he should’ve told her his plan for his future before they agreed to get back together and have sexy times but all in a days work for crappy communicators i guess.

Fractured Hearts

For a debut story, all I can say is wow. I loved this story from start to finish. It tugged at my heart, made me shed a tear & made me want to beat some sense into Connor (giving Lexi a good shake was also on my mind lol). L. M. Dalgleish has a fan in me. It's a great feeling to find another talented Aussie.

The story is pretty good until the end. He gets bad news, gets angry and takes it out on her. Says a lot of really mean things but doesn’t understand why she runs away. When he FINALLY apologizes, he gaslights her and makes her feel guilty so she’s apologizing as well???? HUGE RED FLAG.

Fractured will definitely grab your heart, that is for sure! This was a wonderful debut rockstar romance!

Connor & Lexie's connection seems incongruent. She's sweet & somewhat soft-spoken, altho finding out the grief she lives with, we also get a sense of her strength. Yet, the deeper you think about these characters, you see they both have artistic souls, and those souls call out to each other.

One thing with them did miss the mark for me, however, and that was the fact we are TOLD many times about their time together as friends, or getting to know each other outside of the bedroom, but we aren't SHOWN that part of their relationship a lot. We see her interactions & conversations getting to know the rest of the band, but most of Lexie's interactions w/ Connor are centered around the physical relationship. I missed seeing many of their deeper interactions, because the ones we were shown were beautiful.

Speaking of the other members of the band - I felt like I got to know Tex, Noah & Zac - and Drew, a little bit. They each have amazing hearts, and I'm looking forward to their stories!

Back to Lexie & Connor - as a debut, I give this two thumbs up. Great world creation & building, along with creating characters I care about.

Connor is the lead singer for rock band Fractured but he’s loosing his passion to tour. Lexie is a photographer with a painful past and a unique vision. Connor wants to have Lexie join their tour and create a unique book for the fans of Fractured. The band proposes a ‘no touch’ policy but …Lexie is just such a warm vibrant woman. Great chemistry and connections make this a compelling read. I can’t wait for the next book.

The Rock Star genre is my favorite, so when I saw this book and read the blurb, I had high hopes it would be as good as it sounded. I was not disappointed!

This book is the start of a series and focuses on the lead singer of the band Connor. Connor has substituted music and his band for the family he never really had. He doesn't believe he capable of loving someone or being loved, so when the photographer he hired to to tour with the band comes into his life, he's certain that he isn't capable of giving her more than a good time and then moving on. The photographer Lexie has her own baggage. She lost her husband in a car accident 3 years ago and isn't sure she is capable of ever being with another man. The chemistry and sexual tension between Connor and Lexie is strong. Though they both fight it for quite some time until it reaches a breaking point. They agree to one night only. Then they agree that they will continue until the end of the tour. There is a lot of angst, and a lot of push and pull. It's obvious to everyone but them that they are in love with each other even though they haven't told anyone what they've been doing behind closed doors.

This was a great story with wonderful characters that you can't help but love. It was so well written that I could easily see the story unfold in my mind. I read this book in just a few hours, it just flowed so easily. I am excited to read the rest of the series. The way the author described the other members of the band will pull you in enough to make you want to find out how their stories will play out. I'm really impressed that this is a debut novel. I would not have guessed that. Don't hesitate to read this book, you won't regret it.

How can I believe this is a debut book? It's written like a top seller.

Conner and Lexie are more than characters or even names on my reader. I loved how they each have issues and that they let the other see the hidden side.

How we are supposed to see a rock star and think that they are cold and unfeeling. Conner tried to sell that image but not to me. His rules were his and Lexie wasn't supposed to fall. Let me tell you that you couldn't stop what was to be. Even the band knew that there is more than meets the eye.

Love a good rock star story and this one delivered multi platinum status. Can't wait for more. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntary review.

Written in 3rd Person.. DNF

Absolutely hate 3rd person narratives. Who is this person hovering above knowing what the characters feel, think and relaying what they have to say. Is it some God or Goddess, spirit? Maybe it's their guardian angel.

I barely noticed in chapter one which is why I gave it an extra star. This was written less creepily and easier to follow. I can't connect with this 1980s style of writing.

I want to hear from the actual characters what they see feel and hear. Not some outside deity, who can hover above, while reading minds.

I love a good tear-jerker and this one fills the bill. A heroine recovering from tragedy and a hero who doesn't believe in love is the perfect combination of love and redemption. I really enjoyed this book!
