WHAT JUST HAPPENED HERE KAFKA?!!!.....WOW THAT WAS INTENSE IT IS LIKE BSD FAN WATTPAD STORY!
first of all, I read this because of Akutagawa obviously..... but what was that?!! I'm not sure if you can use this manga as true information for the characters because it's so different than the original BSD, everything had been switched around!
If it's bsd, I'll always give 4-5 stars. From the plot, the writing, the art style, everything is mesmerizing and deserves all my love.
First of all, bsd beast manga has different art style than the original one because the artist is different. This one has a bit more messy style but I really love how it suits the vibe of the story. It started with a violent introduction (yeahh it's a bit gory) and through the story there's a lot of fighting scenes. The art style makes the story scarier and dark.
As always, asagiri sensei's writing is the best. So poetic and it goes deep into my heart. I get emotional easily and I feel like tearing up a lot of times 😭 I've read the light novel and now, reading the manga gives me greater picture of what happened. I'm not prepared to get more emotional in the next volumes 😭💔
For bsd fans, please pick up this manga too! Thank you!💖
I am unbelievably obsessed with the art of this manga; such beautiful art. The plot is amazing; I’m so happy to see my favorite characters once again but in a different plot. I think we can all agree to the fact that we wanted to see something like this. Mafia Dazai and Akutagawa in the detective agency; but man seeing Atsushi as a villain is just something else; I’m shocked. I’m truly invested in this and I’m sure I’ll cling onto this and the BSD manga for way too long.
“I don’t fear death. Hell, too, is probably more comfortable than being here.”
If you’re a fan of Bungo Stray Dogs and anything like me with the thoughts of “what if…?”, then Beast is for you! In Beast we see Akutagawa join the Armed Detective Agency and Atsushi join the Port Mafia. Beast shows us how it’s not necessarily nature that makes Akutagawa and Atsushi who they are in the main manga, but as well as nurture. One change can cause a ripple affect in all of the characters’ lives, and that’s exactly what we witness in Beast. I’m excited to continue reading.
I hope they make an anime adaptation of this somehow. Like maybe a spinoff? Anyway, this was really good. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be this good but I love how different the story could've been if Akutagawa was the "hero" and Atushi played the role of the "villain". Plus, this alternate reality is one where Oda is alive (yesss) and I like how his character didn't change much either.
And that once scene where Chuuya showed up was amazing. I love the rivalry between him and Dazai and I like it even more now that Dazai is playing the villain and I'm assuming he took over Mori's job as the Port Mafia leader or he killed him like Mori predicted he would if Dazai had stayed with the Port Mafia.
I also love the new art style. It's way different but to me it works better since this is an alternate story. Like a "what if?" situation where if Atushi and Akutagawa's roles in the story were reversed.
Even in an alternate universe, Chuuya is still my favorite. I can't wait to read the next volume :)

2nd read akutagawa ryuunosuke and nakajima atsushi, you will always, always be loved by me in any and every universe
1st read asagiri needs an excuse to make his alternate ideas canon and this happened! and thank god for that! pm atsushi and ada akutagawa is smth i didn't know i needed, until now
I had been debating whether I wanted to buy this and read it now, or wait until Bungo Stray Dogs was over and then read all the spinoffs. But it was just announced this week that Beast was getting a movie adaption, so I thought now was the time to read it. And man, this just solidifies my opinion that Elseworlds style alternate universe stories are the perfect way to iterate off of a series. Seeing Akutagawa take the position of the protagonist and finding out how he'd react to the things Atsushi went through in the original story is just so... Cool. 😂
Also, seeing how other characters are different as well, Dazai, Atsushi, ODASAKU. 😭😭😭
This series is already gold, and I can't wait for the next volume to come out in November.

This was a fascinating AU and I am excited to see where the rest of the series takes us. I love Akutagawa and it’s great to see more of him (and the other characters, especially Oda).
I was confused at times but aside from that, great manga!
