Retro Lesbian Dream Girls #1

The Tempting Teacher

Rate this book
Coming out of the closet doesn't have to be unpleasant, even in 1983! Trust me. A little help from the right person, like my gorgeous writing teacher, Ms. Rossi, will go a long way.

My name is Elizabeth Turner, but only my dad calls me that. You can call me Beth. I'm young, struggling with some body issues, and extremely, absolutely, 110% gay. This isn't one of those sweet stories where a girl realizes she doesn't like boys. This is the story of a seething caldera of Sapphic desire ready to erupt at the slightest provocation. I have my sexuality figured out. I just haven't told anyone about it. Yet.

My tempting writing teacher Ms. Rossi decides to coax me out of the closet right before I have to leave New York forever. Talk about timing! Before I depart with my father to live in California, Ms. Rossi is going to throw open the doors of my sexuality and teach me how to live and love as a lesbian. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'm not sure she knows about it.

This book is the start of my recollections about being young and coming out and having fun in the 1980s. While it is not intended as pure erotica, it does have some pretty frank depictions of sexuality. What would be the fun be if it didn't?

A quick short story about an 18 year old high schooler living in 1980s New York. Living in the closet but knowing she is a lesbian.

The story is about fantasizing about teachers, actresses (see: Lynda Carter), and it also includes an unreliable narrator. How much was real? How much is a fantasy? And the reader knows that at least some is fantasy - since the narrator tells us after a scene. Okay, that didn't happen ... did any of it?

Right, so I liked the story. A lot more because of the main character and the & less because of the inherent eroticism.

(Someone reading my review and then glancing at the beginning of the book might wonder if I've placed this review into the review box for the wrong book. Since the beginning of the book takes place roughly 30 years after the 1980s & is about a woman whose 30 year long marriage just collapsed. Yeah, well, the book is about that woman reliving her past).

A lot of fun but very short.

A very steamy but believable story about a high school crush that leads to 'leaving the comfortable closet'. Characters are all likable and relatable, despite the short. You may want to wait for more entires if you dont want to be left hanging.

4 stars. I wasn't expecting much from this I'll be honest but it was actually a really fun time! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait to get to the second book to see where Elizabeth's story goes next.

For being a dated tale it provided an exceptional amount of context. And Beth is expressed in quite a bit of depth. The opening prelude in chapter1 is very impressive. All in all this has started out as a promising 3 book series😝💞❗
