A Dark Kinky Superhero Yaoi Romance

In a world of Heroes and Villains where the difference between good and evil isn’t as simple as which side you’re on, can men who are long retired from the staged battles of the Chosen find a way to restore balance to a world that has just suffered through an unthinkable attack by one of their own? Or will they be distracted by the kinky games of dominance and submission that they love to play?

More than 25 years ago, Matt Evans’ superpowers burned out. He left the world of the Chosen and their staged battles behind. But he also left behind the love of his life and their naughty games of submission.

Out of the blue, a Hero launches an overwhelming attack on the Chosen, stealing away all of their powers. In the aftermath of the attack, Matt’s long dormant powers come back online and he makes the impossible decision to reconnect with the only man who might understand what is happening, Colton Stephens, the lover he had abandoned in his youth.

When Professor Colton Stephens sees Matt standing in the back of his lecture hall, years of secrets and pain come rushing to the surface. Their reunion is less than the amazing moment he had been hoping for. But it sets in motion a series of events that brings Colton to his knees at the feet of Blue Bolt, the Hero turned terrorist who stole everything from the Chosen.

Blue Bolt twists Colton’s kinky desires to his will and restores his long lost powers, bringing Mythos back to life and changing everything about Colton’s life. Can Matt rescue Colton from Blue Bolt’s firm grasp? And in the shadow of Blue Bolt’s ability to fulfill Colton’s needs, will Matt be able to admit that he wants to be the master that Colton serves with his heart, soul, and most importantly, with his body?

Trigger warnings for dub/noncon, super tragic backstories, explicit sex, angsty gay dudes, and cliffhangers. This series reads like a Netflix season, so every book is like an episode that leads up to the epic conclusion in book 7.

What happens to Heroes and Villains once they “burn out”? They get older, lead different lives, loose touch with one another, until their power starts to come back. Now, it’s thirty some odd years later and a few of them that are now in their fifties, find they are in that situation. Matt “Hammer” Evans isn’t happy with his dilemma and it forces him to get back in touch with Professor Colton “Mythos“ Stephens. In fact, Matt never wanted to be a Chosen or a Villain and the past just makes it harder to see Colton again.

When Matt visits Colton for the first time in thirty years and Colton finds Matt’s power is returning, Colton get’s the idea that he can help. But Colton’s good intentions and his surrender to his kink, put him in the clutches of the evil and vile Leo “Blue Bolt”.

Thomas “Anvil” Davos was Matt’s old partner, better known as ”Hammer and Anvil”. Thomas shows Matt a video that Mythos has made and it sends Thomas and Matt on a rescue mission, before Colton really disappears. Along the way they come across Serpent Mound, fight some zombie snakes and meet Boris “Cat Boy”.

Now, there’s a whole lot more going on from there!

I have to admit, this is not what I routinely read but there’s a whole lot of weird, crazy, and fun going on in this novel. After I got the players all straightened out in my head, this became a real page-turner for me. Dani Hermit and Nevi Starr do a really good job at building this strange world with: Disk, Priests, Legacy Program, Chosen, gems, marks and more incredible ideas. They present an in-depth look into all their fantastic characters that reveal all kinds of emotions: guilt, jealousy, friendship, anger and they get into some fights too. There’s new things they learn about each other and it’s not without surprises and secrets. For those that are sensitive, just fair warning, the story is somewhat dark, there’s BDSM and kink that get’s everyone into trouble.

As fas as characters go, Matts level headed and just want’s a normal life. Colton is smart, nerdy and has a kink that leads to all kinds of trouble. Lucky for Colton, Matt knows how to keep him under control and calm. There are plenty of secondary characters that are interesting and I’m sure there will be more to come as this series continues. Two particular characters that stole the show: Thomas “Anvil” and Boris “Cat Boy” definitely get up to all kinds of high-jinks and the banter between them is hilarious.

The deeper I got into this story, my thought was, this would definitely be an interesting graphic comic or hero/villain movie, but it would definitely be X -rated. I highly recommend “Burn Out” for anyone who likes the uniqueness of heroes and villains. Dani Hermit and Nevi Star deliver an intriguing cliff-hanger at the end. As for me, I was throughly entertained with “Burn Out” and plan on following this series.

I have to say that in spite of initially thinking this was a graphic novel and admitting that a cool cover does not a good book make, the cover was what first attracted me to this book. I am not a watcher of anime, a reader of manga or any genre like this but the story description sounded a bit like Watchmen so I decided to give it a try. Wow, what a ride! If you are experienced with these types of stories, you might just fall right in and understand everything but that was not true for me. I realized very early I was simply going to have to accept the world and characters as presented, not try to figure everything out right away and go with the flow. The characters were intriguing enough that I did not mind doing that and eventually most everything began to fit. I knew there was dub/non-con in it so that did not bother me (other than the fact that as other reviewers have noted, get lube). I love academics as characters and especially loved Professor Stephens here. So many conflicting emotions, such a history with Matt and then to mix all that up with the mind scrambling of Blue Bolt made for an incredible read. I so wanted to see how Matt was going to free Colton and find a way for them to both open up and admit what they needed from each other. I was not disappointed. I expected to read this, be satisfied and not need to read any more in this series, but I was wrong. Am definitely going to check out book number two. Especially as I see it continues the development of Matt and Colton's reignited relationship.

This is the first book I'd ever read written by Dani Hermit and Nevi Star and i would like to tell you why I decided to read it after receiving it as an ARC and why I gave it 5 stars. First of all, the book is about one of my favorite topics ever and I can brag that I've read almost every series written about superheros, not just comics, so the first thing that attracted my attention was the topic. This is a totally classic superhero story with a pretty interesting and original plot and amazing characters. But also had a twist, a MM twist that made everything even better. So, adding this to the fact that the story is about second chances, between a hero and a villain, the book kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the pages until the very end. Wonderful reading!!! I can't wait to read book 2!!

I loved this book!
This had my attention straight from the beginning and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
This story is set in a world full of heroes and villains known as the chosen.Where the chosen are pitted against each other in staged battles.
This story is set more than 25 years after Matt Evans known as"Hammer"has lost his powers due to"burn out". Set after he walked away not just from the chosen, but, from the man he loved.
Inexplicably his powers come back and he goes to see the one man he hopes, can explain what is happening, his ex lover, Colton Stephens.
I don't like to give spoilers for books. What I will say is,if, you love books full of heroes and villains then I highly recommend you dive in and join Matt and Colton in a great start to a brilliant new series.

DNF at 70%

That was a bad excuse for bad sex scenes. Everybody gets to fuck the one guy one way or another. Futhermore they are old and have "dad-bods". I have no idea how to make a book more unsexy than this.
Oh and everything is solved with a fuck. Supervillain makes his entrance? Fucks main character.
Ex-Villain tries to rescue main character? Fucks him.
The side characters do something grab smoething to eat? Why not fuck?
The supervillain has a discussion with some guy? Oh, lets not forget to fuck.

This was so goddamn bad i began skipping at 20% or so. I finally gave up at 70%.

Save to say this wasn't for me. I will not recommend and I will not read any of the next books.

This was a really different, unique, crazy, fun book to read. I was a little confused in the beginning, and I thought it could have used more base world-building at the start, but the plot and characters were great. Add in some kink and you have a wild ride. There is good and evil, superpowers, surprises, and a bit of deviousness in and out of the sack. I loved the cover, but be aware, this is not a comic/anime.

There’s a lot that I liked about this story and a lot a didn’t like. My biggest pet peeve when coming into a new series especially one like this, is when things aren’t explained. I had no clue what was really going on for a good portion of the book. I did like the characters and concept. Not sure if I will keep going with the series though

This book was given to me as an ARC, all opinions are my own.

The premise of the book is interesting, kinky superheroes without powers, well it's the premise from my point of view.
Because there was as much kink in it as there was story, though in all of this, the story could use a few crates of lube. Because it was absent and I don't want to read fisting without lube.

The beginning was confusing, so much information and difficult to grab a hold of it all, but as the story pans out I started enjoying it more. Superheroes having lost their power and after close to thirty years having them return, what was the reason and what happens now.

I liked several characters, complicated emotions such as loneliness, longing, love and desires, it kept me reading and made me want to know how things develop.

I could even get on board with the constant changing of characters voice. It gave me a bit of a whiplash but at the same time there was no backtrack in the story because of it. And it's very well written, no awkward language, no strange pauses, it flows.

This was a very interesting take on superheroes. In this world, those chosen to be Heroes and Villains are much like pro wrestling, everything is not as it appears. Matt (Hammer) was once a Villain who was in a relationship with Colton (Mythos) until he burned out and lost his powers. At that point, Matt abandoned Colton and the world of the Chosen. Now the men are in their fifties, and their powers come back as former Hero Leo (Blue Bolt) returns to shake up the world.
There are moments in this story that really disturb me, but my interest never wavered. This is only episode one, so I'm not sure what will happen. Is Blue Bolt truly evil, or are his intentions truly for good? His manipulating talents lead to some horrible things, but I'm still not sure of his ultimate goals. Other than my intense need to see Colton safe, I also have a deep sympathy for a couple of other characters here. I am fascinated by this universe, and I will have to read the next installment to learn more.
If you enjoy superheroes and supervillains, and you don't mind lots of kinky sex, this might be the series for you. I'm definitely ready for more!

This has got to be one of the most fantastic, off the wall, zany, wacky, crazy, fast paced, action packed, grab-you-by-the-feels, amazing, exciting, incredible, intense, quirky, hilarious, nail biting, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat, kinky, unconventional, completely unexpected, definitely different, and totally awesome books that I've read in quite some time. It pulled me in from the very first page, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

What an intriguing premise for a book!
Superheros and Viliains mixed in with steamy kink as well as dark with overtones of dub-con which I absolutely adore.
The authors have created an amazingly extensive and complex world filled with emotional storytelling that is very well written.
This book ends on a cliffhanger I will definitely be looking forward to delving more deeply into this new series.
