3.5, rounded up.

FURTHER update, 10/11: So it's now been almost 6 months since I finished this book - and in that time I have now taken off a total of 50 lbs. and am only 6 lbs. away from a 'normal' BMI rating. Again, I wouldn't necessarily credit this book with making the difference, but it DID impel me to begin my weight loss journey, and could do the same for anyone who reads it.

Update, 6/17: So, in my original post, I said I would get back to let you know whether this book 'worked'. It challenged me enough to make me want to make a concerted effort to finally take off weight I had carried around for far too long. On 4/21, I weighed 215.6, with a BMI of 33 - in the obese range. Today, 6/17, I weigh 191.4, with a BMI of 29, which dropped me down to 'merely' overweight - loss of a little over 24 lbs. That is about halfway to my goal weight, but a great result for only 7 weeks. Is that due to this book alone? Of course not - but many of the suggestions in the book I DID adopt, and DID work for me.

Original post: 4/21/21
This is a very quick read (lotsa white space and photos), that is more motivational than a 'diet plan' per se - there are no recipes, nor really any hardline 'rules' Just gentle suggestions that will hopefully help you to overcome your weight issues. None of these are really new or innovative, but the author puts them together in a fun, easy to read and understand way. Whether they WORK or not - let me get back to you on that....

I am a fan of Dr Chatterjee so was keen to read his latest book.
I think the title doesn't do it justice, because it is more about adopting a healthy lifestyle : what to eat, when you eat, sleeping, moving your body etc. It isn't just about losing weight.

It is very readable and the photos are captivating.

Sigh. I don't know why I expected any different.
Lose Weight, Feel Great by Dr Rangan Chatterjee is 80% excellent advice for a healthy lifestyle, 20% crappy diet rules/hacks.
It would actually be an amazing book, if it didn't focus on weight loss. There is a lot of good advice, especially when it comes to sleep, movement, social relationships, stress reduction. To be honest, I actually get the feeling he might kind of know that the weight loss side of things is BS, but he keeps hounding it in the book. "Chuck out the scales, focus on how you feel; you'll have more energy, be healthier etc. and of course lose weight"
I'm disappointed that he made no mention of the risk of disordered eating with any diet, especially when he talks about fasting
He does mention childhood trauma but only to say that 'of course this would make you want to eat more comfort food' ie no recognition of the biometabolic effects of chronic childhood stress/trauma
He doesn't mention EVER that someone in a bigger body might actually eat well and move their body a lot. The assumption throughout the book is that those of us who are bigger must eat "blissy" foods a lot.
Some of his diet advice include: don't eat too much nuts because they're high in calories (DEBUNKED), drink water before eating because "sometimes when you're hungry you're actually thirsty", eat your vegetables / salad first so you fill up on it. He also suggests that we should be cooking food that is LESS delicious
I'm disappointed at the amount of anecdata. He continues to say that "This will work" and "you WILL lose weight" without any data to back it up (of course), just based on his own patients.

I'm starting a JOURNEY, ok? I'm getting old or whatever, and things are starting to catch up with me. So I'm reading/listening to everything I can right now about how to improve health. I like the empathetic approach of Dr. Chatterjee (YEAH, it's NOT really my fault!) while still giving you simple things you can do to start making changes. It's also empowering in that he encourages you to make your own plan, incorporate the changes you can while knowing not everything will work for you, and not everything has to. Honestly, the weight loss piece of this book is really more - and hey, this will help you lose weight by happenstance! Which is nice. Yes, the anecdotes seem a bit too easy, but overall, I found a lot I connected with in this book, and I think I'll come back to it more than once.

This is an excellent book. I was a bit put off by the title, but I love Rangan Chatterjee’s Feel Better, Live More podcast, and I was keen to read his latest book after getting so much out of his previous book, Feel Better in 5. In the end, I found this book both interesting and inspiring in terms of ideas for developing a healthier lifestyle (and potentially losing weight in the process). It is ironic that I listened to most of the audiobook through the night while waiting for unsettled children to get back to sleep, when the key message for me from this book is that good quality sleep is vital for an overall healthy lifestyle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A gentle, easy read with lots of pictures and well organized. The kind of book to maybe keep on a coffee table and keep going back to. It doesn't necessarily tell me something I haven't heard from somewhere else, but it comes pretty close to the exact philosophy I follow when it comes to well being and healthy lifestyle. I love Rangan's podcasts too. I liked this book, I see it serving as a daily reminder of the lifestyle I want to be sustaining long term.

Excellent - I would highly recommend this as the lifestyle book for January. Sensible, sustainable and positive information to help everyone achieve their target weight and live healthier lives. Debunks a lot of important myths. Really useful reading for healthcare professionals who advise people on how to lose weight.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free in exchange of my honest opinion.

2.5 stars

I have mixed feelings about this book.

On one hand, it's not your usual diet book and it focuses a lot on good common sense advice and how diet are individual things and what worked for one person might not work the same for another. Which is cool, cool, cool.

On the other hand, it completely ignores eating disorders and it also offers some bullsh*t diet propaganda - like maybe you are not hungry, you just need a glass of water.

So I am torn, because overall I don't think it's a bad book, I don't think his intentions are bad, but I wish the book was more aware about eating disorders and how triggering some things can be. And I also found some advice silly (like telling the coworker who brings sweets at work to maybe stop... of course, he said it in a nicer way than this, but I still find that a tad bit rude and self-centered).

Overall, it's not that bad of a diet book. It reads easily and the pictures are gorgeous. Oh, but it's worth saying he doesn't reference any particular studies when talking about some things and tend to use the "this worked for X, so you should try it" approach.

This is a really solid book, and kind of perfect for people who are trying to get away from diet culture and make a proper lifestyle change. My personal rating is just more to do with the fact that I was already very aware of the methods and advice that Chatterjee puts forward in this book, so most of the book was nothing new to me. However, I would 100% recommend this to anyone who has struggled with their weight and repeatedly falling off the bandwagon. Chatterjee's approach is sensible and always practical, which is something I really like about his books. Also, the physical copy looks just as good as his other books.

It’s become a kind of tradition these last few years to pre-order & read Dr RC’s latest book to kickstart my year. This one didn’t disappoint, & interestingly brings together lots of other theoretical stuff I’ve read in recent years about food. This is very accessible, do-able & as always beautifully presented.

I listened to this as an audiobook and it was narrated by the author. He did a great job and I would highly suggest to all my friends with busy schedules to at least listen to this. Lots and lots of good stuff in this book.
The author makes the case that we’re responding to our bodies signals. Feeling hungry and storing unwanted fat because of our food choices. He explains why we might be insulin resistant and how low calorie diets have sabotaged our bodies. All of this making us slaves to our choices.
The goal of this book is about long term. What will I do long term about my eating habits? Will I be able to keep my weight off? Can I discover what and why eating this way can bring me to my healthy self?
Critical things to think about in each chapter are What, Why, When, How and Where I eat. He keeps it simple and doable. I really liked that about the book. All of it had realistic goals.
Sleep, mental health, stress management, and alcohol consumption are some of the things he talks about. All very insightful.
I liked that he embraced all eating choices; for example plant based, vegetarian and regular diets.
I highly recommend this and learned a lot. 62% of people are overweight today, just look around. It’s startling.
Thanks to Gildan Media via Netgalley for this audiobook. I’ve voluntarily given my review.

4 stars. Recently, I've been trying to be better at the whole exercise and cleaner eating thing, so I jumped at the change to read this book. It's full of helpful tips and practical strategies -- nothing groundbreaking here, but it's definitely helpful to have a reminder every so often.

The advice is realistic, easy, and logical. There's no magic tricks, no starving yourself or cutting out your favorite foods; rather, this is a practical, easy to follow approach to the hard work of weight loss and exercise.

I'd definitely recommend Feel Great, Lose Weight to anyone who is trying to do just that. Thanks to NetGalley and BenBella Books for the opportunity to read it in return for my honest opinion.

Over all of his books. Rangan Chatterjee provides bitesize tips on how to approve your overall wellbeing. Unlike many books regarding weight which are released at this time of year, the goal of this title is to help you see beyond just the numbers, and adopt a more holistic and compassionate approach to your health. Even though a lot of the points he states are seemingly obvious, there is great benefit in having them written out. As his approach is so holistic, there is naturally quite a bit of bleed-over and replication from his other titles. Hardly surprising, but if you are familiar with his other titles, then you are probably familiar with some of the exercises he suggests.

One thing that jarred with me was his use of ‘blissy’ to describe foods that are highly addictive. I thought this particular term didn’t seem in keeping with the tone of the book as a whole. It must have been quite tricky picking a word that doesn’t evoke feelings of shame, but I am pretty sure a better word could have been selected.

I am disappointed that there was almost no reference to the gut microbiome too as this seems to be quite on-trend at the moment in terms of weight loss.

Nevertheless, a book well-worth leading for people looking for changes beyond the aesthetic.

Dr. Chatterjee takes the hype and complication out of weight loss and turns it into an easy to do and practical way to change one's daily outlook on life and habits, by finding simple solutions to not only lose weight but to feel better about oneself. This book is good for anyone who is not only looking to find ways to lose weight but to also find a new outlook on self-image by making changes with solid, simple solutions that are available to everyone. A must-read!

Amazing, simply, straightforward book on eating healthy and having a healthy lifestyle. It isn't making big transformation claims, but argues for small (yet ultimately very significant) lifestyle changes.

The things suggested are fairly obvious, however Chatterjee puts it all together in a easy, fun and energetic way.

Eating whole foods, sleeping well & movement. Love the breakdown Chatterjee makes and look forward to implement his health strategies into my life!

I read this book as an assignment for my job, and as far as diet/healthy lifestyle books goes, it is very good. I like Dr. Chatterjee's non-judgmental, compassionate approach. And there is a lot of informative science in there, too. Why do some people carry excess weight? The reasons will likely surprise you and help you let go of the shaming idea that it's all your fault.

Feel Great, Lose Weight by Rangan Chatterjee is a quick audio. The author/ narrator was pleasant, but I must admit translating British English to American English is sometimes annoying. Biscuits are cookies. Crisps are potato chips which are French fries. I’ve read so many diet books. This one doesn’t present any new information. As a lifetime member of weight watchers, I disagree with some of the author’s ideas. Weighing yourself twice a day—NO. Weight loss is re-educating yourself for your lifetime. Chatterjee notions are too strict. Life just isn’t that way.

I generously gave this book 3 stars.

I have been following Dr. Chatterjee's podcasts for about 2-3 months now and my reaction to him is that he is a very effective communicator and has a way of explaining things that most health experts talk about but in layman's terms, while still being highly educated about these topics. I was excited to buy Feel Great, Lose Weight and Happy Mind, Happy Life from Amazon and devoured the prior in 3 days of comfortable reading.

Chatterjee's approach to becoming more fit, healthy, balanced, and emotionally and mentally sound, to me is described as making small adjustments to your lifestyle and eating habits, and exercise routines as well as mindsets until you are pointing yourself in a direction where you doing what's right in order to become a healthy individual automatically.

Here are some of the things within the book I took away from this book and why I thought it was a good read. Caution spoiler alert as these are somewhat summarized notes of some topics I liked.

We all know these things but he lays out much more than this and I wouldn't give away the book entirely but one thing that I can say about Chatterjee is he is effective at organizing tips and knowledge, so look for a-lot of tips in Feel Great, Lose Weight.

Honestly I could go on. I feel like I started this review knowing what I wanted to share and ended up not really sure how to put this book into a single theme for review. It is vast and expansive in topics and in the end I really do hope you pick this book up if your are either these people:
1- You need to learn the basics of healthy eating principles and a overall understanding of what it takes to lose weight. Feel Great, Lose Weight is a good place to start.
2- You know your stuff when it comes to health and nutrition and you want a recap on what works and what has been proven to work in this doctor's medical experience--you will especially enjoy the case studies he includes between chapters.

Thanks for reading this and please know I am aware I left out a lot about this book's topics but I wrote it without reviewing the book all from memory and this is what stood out for me.

I have been recommended to this Author by so many people. I found the book very readable, if somewhat stretched out by many many photos of Dr Chatterjee. Which is neither a criticism or praise, just a comment.
I am sad though that he stresses so much on calories yet again. It has been totally debunked about calories in calories out. It has been proved about the quality of what nutrients are in those calories and how the body uses them.
I was totally open to this being a book that would guide me through getting rid of all the 'diet' stuff I have followed for so many years. When he spoke on TV, he was talking about how, when people come into his surgery in January, he feels such compassion for them because they are being set up to fail. He then says in his book about eating salad before your meal to reduce your appitite, to drink water prior to eating. These are old ways, sort of weight watchers, slimming world stuff. I did find his section on 'blissy' food interesting. I feel that it has been padded out with old stuff because his main message would not fill a book. Sad

This looks really amazing.
I'm really not a fan of diets so I nearly didn't buy this but I'm so glad I did.
This looks holistically at your life, not just at what you eat. It also looks at the environment we live in and how that sets us up to gain weight.
I've made my plan for the next month, I'm not even looking at the scales, I'm just focusing on being my healthiest self and I hope I might lose a few pounds along the way.
I really recommend this if you are interested in long term lifestyle change rather than quick weight loss. What I hope is that it will be permanent.

I really like Dr Chatterjee's podcast but didn't love this book. With all the experts Dr Chatterjee has interviewed, I would've expected a little more. The book is super basic and might be good if you're completely new to healthy eating or wellness. We need to sleep and move our bodies, don't most of us know this? I also found the case studies a waste. I had this patient, she applied the tip I just mentioned and started losing weight...ok.

Brilliant guide to losing weight with many helpful tips and advice that I would not have thought of. Put in a simple way that doesn’t bog you down with jargon. Nor does it make any false promises. Definitely the best book out there.

A lot of photos and recycled knowledge

Bought it with the offer at 99 cents. It’s even not worth it. The thing is repetitive, the same tips that are available for free in the internet are just repeted many times plus some photos and voila the book. Please avoid.

Rekommenderas.
