Paris Hansch (Homo sapiens) is a fantasy fanatic, biologist and avid reader, native to Australia. Common behaviour includes living in her own nerdy world of sword and sorcery, playing D&D and writing kickass women in fiction.
Armed with her motto of, 'No More Damsels In Distress', she battles to see a world where everyone can stand as equals, have the freedom to be exactly who they are and portray real female characters we can show our daughters and say, 'be like her'.
This short story marks a departure from what I'm used to seeing from this author. It deals with themes of recovery from a domestic violence situation.
While it is an incredibly short read, it's probably my favourite piece of writing from this author. The main character is so real, so raw, and so strong. I felt the themes of post-traumatic stress, recovery, and healing were exceptionally well-addressed.
I found this to be really powerful, and I loved the way the story was focused. This is overall great writing, although the subject matter does make it a hard read. It's so worth it.
