Vostra Crime Lords #1

Fated Mate Tamed

Rate this book
I knew the men of the Vostra  expected obedience from their mates. I didn't know one of them would claim me, or knot me, or throw me over his knee for a stern punishment. When my ship was captured by the leader of a deadly alien crime family, my whole world changed. Draga isn’t a gentle man. He takes what he wants. Including me. And when you belong to an alien crime lord, you don’t make the rules. You either follow them, or get disciplined. Firmly. But Draga doesn’t just want me to surrender to him. He wants to own me. He wants to be my protector, my provider, my authority, my mate. He wants to send me into heat and transform me into something primal, something that’s his.   Can this be love? Or is it just need? Fated Mate Tamed is a full-length romance novel set in a dark sci-fi universe. It contains knotting, heats, and a rough, possessive alpha. Book 1: Fated Mate Tamed (Aspen & Draga) Book 2: Fated Mate Conquered (Kora & Turan) Book 3: Fated Mate Taken (Milana & Rojan) Book 4: Fated Mate Claimed (Lyra & Geddion)

Hi! I'm Luna Voss, and I have the best job in the world: turning all the dirty fantasies in my head into even dirtier novels for you to read. If you like dominant, possessive heroes, dark mafia men, 7-foot aliens, or any combo of the above, you might be in the right place.

Despite what some reviewers claim, this isn't consensual. So, unless "submit to me or have your mind wiped" says "consensual" to you, this is actually an example of a "false choice."

I agree with others that Aspen is weak -- not because of what she does/doesn't do regarding her co-workers, but because she does whatever the H wants her to with little pushback, simply accommodating herself to his dictates without articulating any of her own wants or needs. And nowhere did I see him making her feel cherished or cared for, particularly given how often he humiliates her in public.

Finally, this contains my number one pet peeve in this genre: the h is punished when someone attacks her. This is known as "blame-the-victim" and is way too close to rape-apologia for my taste.

Two stars since the H doesn't harm the h. I feel that I read a different book than many others so YMMV.

Note: After looking at the other books, I will say that the H's become less abusive and the h's grow a backbone. Though it may be necessary to read this book for the world-building, the MC dynamics do improve; I would have enjoyed this series much more if it weren't for this book.

Wow, that’s a very good Story and interesting mix of adventure, mafia dark romance with kink and Omegavers - captivating and thrilling and entertaining. The story flowed perfectly and the characters fitting the mixture and each other.
The big bad boys are sweethearts with their own system of values that sets a different counterweight.

Sorry, don’t have time to talk I am about to jump into part 2 although this book or this couple had their HEA the other characters are so seductive and good that I hope they all get their own story and the connecting story continues above all. It would be great.

DNF.

THIS WAS A DIFFERENT KIND OF OMEGAVERSE STORY.
IT WASN'T BAD.
BUT I JUST WASN'T FEELING IT FOR THE CHARACTERS.
FELT LIKE IT LACKED THE EMOTIONAL GLUE THAT HOLDS THE ROMANCE TOGETHER.

BUT, THE SEX WAS DEFO HOT.

Oh dear universe,

this was just silly.
The first four chapters started out interesting until chapter 5 where it all went downhill in a landslide.
The characters are unattractive.
The woman especially, begging, sobbing and crying although the first portrait and their job and to get there would tell of strong females, clever and independent their behaviour not so much.
The malice and danger doesn’t transport through the pages, because the writing lacks it which makes it all look like a silly soap opera.
The dialogues are immature and underdeveloped.
I gave up during chapter 7.
It was just not worth it for me.

You have got to be kidding me....she went through the academy, wants to be an officer, head of the prison guards, grew up poor and struggling, and she breaks down like sobbing ‘wanting to be held’? Stopped at 20%. Might make for a good modern mob story but leave the sci fi alone, please.

Mmm nop.

Aspen works in security and she’s guarding, among others, a major player in the alien mob. His brethren comes to break him out just as her ship is at its most vulnerable. Draga recognizes Aspen as half-Voorian and senses their high genetic compatibility. He demands she submit to him as the females of his species do, and Aspen agrees.

This was okay. Some parts were interesting, others made me skim. Sex was good. I liked the idea of a knot and that kind of thing. Definitely some steam. Also a lot of spanking going on.

Overall I would not keep this on my shelf. Probably won’t reread either.

I'm a sucker for a fated mate story. While the world building in this was minimal, the characters and plot were more developed than I was expecting and it was steamy! Boy was it steamy.

I read this last week, so I’m doing this from notes. If it helps; I remember being interested enough that I stayed up to read it, but can’t remember much about. I read it mostly because I was intrigued by the Sci-Fi/mafia/omegaverse theme it had going on.

Draga Butarza is a Voorian captain in the Vostra crime family. Aspen is a half-Voorian/half-human Empire prison guard who is hiding her Voorian side, because only humans can be officers. The two meet when Draga boards her ship to rescue his brother. Aspen has caught some flack because she breaks down sobbing, ratting out her crew, and switches sides almost immediately, but I thought she was being smart. First, they're not really her friends, and they did abuse the scary gangster’s brother, so I don’t blame her for not sticking up for the assholes. She was trying to survive, and I would think playing the damsel would probably work better than being hostile. If you do prefer the prickly pear/disobedient h better, then I’d try book 2, because that is more Kora’s personality.

The book relies heavily on the “animalistic” part of their Voorian sides, so there’s lots of dominating, fated mate/compatibility talk, and spanking, but the spanking is almost sexual. Aspen’s Voorian side emerges straightaway, and she gets down with the program quick. There’s not a ton of “world building” but we do get a major dump on voorian information via Aspen reading a self-help book, which I thought was pretty clever. The setting backstory might fill in over the next two books.

Bottom Line- Not bad for Sci-Fi smut… It was close to being 4 stars, but I got a little bored in the middle. There’s a small epilogue, and the story continues with Draga’s brother, and Aspen’s friend Kora. **safety- completely safe, no cheating, OM/OW drama of any kind.

I didn’t like it. There wasn’t really any plot aside from female subjugation. I like a good dominant alpha male troupe as much as anyone, but it always annoys me when they come along acting like the woman haven’t been taking care of themselves all their lives just fine. There is power in choosing to be submissive when you enjoy it, but to assert an entire race to one ideal is annoying. Especially since Aspen seemed so undecided about it.

Meh but with lots of potential

I found Aspen to be too easy and thus the story was a bit boring to me. Maybe that was the point. I ended up skimming over a lot of parts of the book that had details that didn't contribute to the romance. All in all, the book was lukewarm for my personal taste. Sounds like Milan's story will be more along my line of interest with a lot of passion and challenges to work through that typically make relationships stronger.

Ooh la la

Omegaverse (knotting and heats)
Fated mates; insta-attraction!
Lots of steamy smex scenes 🌶 spanking, anal, sexy hair pulling (YUMMY!), multiple-orgasms
Heroine (Aspen) is a virgin and hero(Draga) is not.
No angst.
No other woman/man drama

This book is quite long.
There are a few cliché fight scenes but it doesn’t take anything away from the story as a whole.

I see some comments saying this isn’t consensual, how there was a scene where the heroine(Aspen) was “disciplined” (sexy spanked and then had hot as hell sex🌶) for fighting off some attacks at the wrong part of town. She was disciplined for endangering herself by leaving the safe parts of town and then getting into a dispute with some idiot second generation rich boys. The hero(Draga) even praised her for fighting back.

Like ma’am are we even reading the same book? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The heroine is half human and half Voorian. It’s in the Voorian biology that the females are more submissive in nature and the males more dominant. The male provides and loves their mate/wife more than they need air. ❤️😩

The Voorian females also gets “bratty”/defiant to test their mates. It’s in their biology. The women are disciplined by CHOICE.

All Voorians have this “beacon” on their foreheads that can show their raw emotions by color. If at any point Aspen flashes her beacon Red (anger, rage, NO) during her “disciplines” then Draga would’ve stopped. He even purposely pay attention to her beacons coloring.

This was all explained in the book 🤨

All in all, what started off (for the heroine) as I’ll-play-along-for-survival but gradually turns into something amazing and worth dying for. Girl might’ve been in denial-“no way I can be in love with a crime lord,” but we see you wanting to jump his bones 😉 👌🏼

I do recommend this book to those who enjoys their Omegaverse with fated mates element! Especially with an male like Draga; dominating, masculine, loyal, loving, alpha-dreamboat 😩❤️👌🏼

Bonus: he’s got status and wealth!

I sure as hell gonna re-read this book!

Dark and addicting PNR

Written for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence such as abduction, fighting with some to the death, betrayal, dominance / submission, spanking, Punishment, etc.

This is the first story in a new series and Luna Voss does a great job setting the story universe between the Vostrat (alien mafia organization) and the police of the galaxy.

Draga is a Captain with the Vostrat and he sets up a plan to rescue his brother Turan, also a Captain who has been captured and is set to be executed. He is being transported on a prison ship, restrained behind a force field. The idea is almost more than Draga can stand. Once they board the ship, overcome any resistance given by the crew, Draga noticed a smell that is driving him half mad. It is the most delightful scent that he quickly realized belongs to a female that must be genetically compatible.

Aspen is a half human - Voorian female has been placed as the lead for the guards on the prison ship. They only have one prisoner, Turan, who is considered so important that they even assigned two extra guards for this trip to the prison planet where his execution will be broadcast.

Aspen realizes something is wrong when the ship comes to a complete stop from hyperdrive ... they are under attack! After dressing in her protective gear and weapons, Aspen heads to the maintenance bay to try and prepare to engage the pirates boarding the ship. They are quickly taken over, but Aspen manages to escape. She hides and incapacitates a couple of the intruders and almost sends out a distress call before being tracked down by a very large unsuppressed Voorian that she recognizes as the brother to the prisoner ... oh boy.

This really came with a twisted Stockholm/non con mindset for the FL. I already agree with one of the reviewers whole heartedly and just have a couple things to add -

I didn't like how Draga kept on questioning "IF SHE IS MY FATED MATE"/"She might be my fated mate - dunno yet" after scenting her and saying that over and over to Aspen, and to anyone else. It's not until she goes into heat where he's like "Okay. Confirmed she's my fated mate. Claiming."

It for me solidified that he knew he wanted her in a lust way, but outside of that bond - didn't truly want her. Sure once he becomes mated to her he sorta grows to be more kind/caring to her...but before that it really just sat the wrong with me.

Aspen was definitely set up to be "strong" but turned out to be really weak, it was sort of really odd how accepting despite having hidden the fact that she was half - totally going alone with the ML. I'm not saying that her doing a whole betrayal thing would have made sense either (which I'm glad I didn't have to read either) - but she really just accepts that she's going with the ML, he's rich, she's secured for life, that's it. Aspen is not only the type of heroine that gets dumb after sex, but doormat unfortunately.

This book does the most world building though and compared to the other books I think for the sex scenes - it was the hottest to read. (Most descriptive compared to the others and such)

First time I've read a book by this author not the last though

I have never read anything by Luna Voss and I don't read dark submissive dominant themed romance. I don't know why this book caught my attention but I decided to read it and I was very surprised that I was hooked from the first paragraph. There were spankings, plenty of them, and plenty of hot steamy scenes, but it didn't feel violent themed. The was an interesting plot and a romantic relationship that built up through out the story between Aspen, a half human and half Voorian woman and Draga, a Voorian Male who is a Captain in an alien mobster family. They meet when Draga boards the spaceship that Aspen is working on as a prison guard escorting Turan, Draga's brother who is to be executed. Draga rescues Turan. Then senses that Aspen is genetically compatible with him and may possibly be his fated mate. Their courtship is a combination of his forcing his dominance on her and simultaneously being tender and protective. There is a nice side plot and we are introduced to several other characters who are due to show up in books of their own. I really liked this author's writing style. It flowed nicely. A few places could have been edited better but did not detract from the intensity of this read.

Aspen's dominant, possessive and authoritative Voorian Mate!
by sewsummore

Aspen was a half-human, half-Voorian who worked as a prison guard on a transport ship. She was a member of the crew transporting a Voster Crime Lord to his execution. Signing up for the Imperial service was her only chance for a better life. When the ship suddenly drops out of hyperspace, she knew it was time to head for the armory and gear up for an attack. It was all over very quickly, and Aspen and her friend Kora had become captives of Draga, a captain in the Butarza crime family. Draga had scented Aspen before he had even seen her. Her scent told him she was Voorian and fated mate compatible, and since none of the other Voorian warriors could smell her, it was likely she was his mate. Voorian males are dominant, possessive, and authoritative with their women, and as much as Aspen hated to admit it, his masculine dominance appealed to her. I enjoyed reading about Draga and Aspen's courtship. Aspen did not give up easily and was punished many times, but she could not resist his attraction.

A whole lotta spankings going on in this book. It was just the way of things for this species.

Aspen is a guard on a prison ship transporting a prisoner to his execution. This prisoner a member of the Vostra, a made family that reaches all over the universe.

Draga is about to take control of the prison ship in a rescue mission for his brother who is the prisoner. What he doesn’t expect to find on the ship is his fates mate.

Aspen is half Voorian, but she is passable as human because none of her Voorian characteristics ever developed. But once Draga comes into contact with her, her body starts to catch up on years of suppressing half of her nature, and she finds she sort of likes this side of her.

Draga was extremely overbearing and authoritative, and sometimes that can really rub me the wrong way. But in this book it didn’t at all. Maybe because it was their way of life, and maybe because Aspen was never really upset by any of it, she sort of instigated it lot of times. And also maybe because Draga was so good natured. He was alpha but he was also sort of gentle and caring with Aspen immediately after discipline and just about all other times in the book.

Sigh. As a huge lover of MF omegaverse I'm always game for trying new authors because there just isn't enough omegaverse books in the world. But..I didn't like it.🤷‍♀️

I struggled with it for days to finish. I lost interest. And I think alot had to do with the authors writing style. I felt like all I was reading was the heroine Aspen's thoughts. Over and over. And man, the way the hero Draga acted felt far too ordinary for an Alpha for me. For a book taking place in space on other planets etc etc both the hero & heroine acted too normal. I didn't feel this was any different than how ordinary heroes and heroines act in contemporary romances. It was very off-putting to me.

I could overlook the spanking/discipline aspect cause it is what it is. I just couldn't get past the writing style, over abundance of inner thoughts and the way they spoke. It was all so average to me. I had to force myself to skim to the end just so I could mark it as read.

With all that said... It's by no means a bad book. Someone else might enjoy it but I just couldn't get into it. Too many conflicting issues for me.

I received this book as a arc read and voluntarily provide my review. This is a story of Draga and Aspen. Aspen is a half human and half Voorian working as a imperial guard transporting a notorious criminal for execution. An escape is planned and Draga takes over the imperial ship where he finds Aspen. Her scent tells him it’s his fated mate. This story starts out exciting and strong but then becomes slower paced. Aspen almost instantaneously accepts her new situation that she will submit to Draga almost immediately which was harder to identify with. Also Draga immediately assuming he should trust Aspen is amazing. I found the manual describing puberty for Voorians was a bit much and not needed in the book. Overall, the sex scenes were dominant and good. Alpha dominant and spanking was great. At times it seemed like the story could have ended and then there was more. It seems the author was trying to get the characters to know each other better which Seemed to slow pace to me.

This is an enthralling Sci-Fi alien romance with a slightly dark undertone that has a well-written storyline & an intriguing plot. The characters are interesting with well-developed complex personalities.
It is about: a female imperial head guard (Aspen Tor) with hidden secrets is transporting a rather dangerous criminal (Turan Butarza) for execution but is unexpectedly helped to escape by his brother (Draga Butarza) who takes over the spaceship & discovers that one of the guards (Aspen) is his fated mate.
There is: a United Planetary Empire, mafia crime families, fated mates, adventure, action, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, drama, mystery, secrets, rivalry, devious intentions, deceit, betrayal, setups, danger, enemies, confrontations, conflict, defiance, threats, discipline, spankings, confusion, attractions, friendship, strange abilities, ceremonies, rebelliousness, violence, anticipation, a claiming, contentment, some steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed reading this book & would recommend it.

This story is complex but it does not feel that way once you start reading. Luna has done a marvelous job of making it flow and letting the reader decipher the story at their own pace. I totally was so into this story that I did not realize I had read through when it ended. I mean I really wanted this story to continue. I find that Luna made a story that honestly was one of the best alien stories that I have read all year. I am on the lookout for more from her and in this genre. It is so good! These aliens(Voorain) are rugged and unbroken and when they find their mate game on! Aspen is one that will go down in my book as being a strong woman. Draga knows what he sees in her and what he wants from her. Heavens help anyone who gets in the way of a male Voorain. SO good and what a wonderful beginning to a new series! The chemistry is hot and these two have definite chemistry.

Dark and delicious just like I like!

This is my first time reading Luna Voss but it certainly won’t be the last! I’m very impressed. This story combines a few of my favorite tropes including paranormal, fated mates, and dark mafia romance! I must admit this is also my first time reading about “Made” aliens. One thing I always enjoy about alien stories is what the relationship is between them and humans. In this case it’s exploitative and discriminatory and the humans are cruel and part of the insidious and far-reaching Empire. There’s betrayal, intrigue, an interesting storyline, what I suspect will be an overarching plot, and sub-plots, and lots of steamy goodness. The aliens, how they find their mates, the dynamic between males and females, and how the mate bond affects them both is brilliant. This is a unique, refreshing take on different elements and a fascinating universe. I look forward to continuing this great series!

This was a great book. Scifi and mafia mixed with fated mates. Loved it!

It was thisclose to being an instalove story, but all those things that cause instalove books to fall short were missing. This one had more depth to the process. There was a bit of conflict that created an urgency, a feeling of anticipation often missing in those shorter instalove reads.

Aspen and Draga were good together. And smokin’ hot. The storyline was entertaining, the book well written and the mafia world was intriguing. I really enjoyed this sci-fi combo and plan to look for more. I was also excited to see that Vostra Crime Lords Book Two was up for preorder. And even more so, when I saw who’s story this was. I’ll absolutely be reading that one, too!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Not a bad start to the series

This series wasn't a bad read. I liked the dominate/submissive relationship. The characters were good but this wasn't quite a strong enough story for a 5 star and honestly some parts were more 3.5 than 4 but I rounded up as the story was enjoyable. The dialogue was good for the most part but not stellar. There were parts that should've been expanded on leaving parts of the story less than exceptional. The play between the friends was grating at times. If the friend is familiar with this lifestyle, then why was she so appalled with how the fmc was adapting? Also while the fmc was trying to protect her "friend", that friend was going out of her way to get the fmc in trouble. Some friendship. That being said, it's an easy quick read. It's not terrible but it's not entirely memorable and I'm not sure I'll be finishing the series.

spicy but just too much sub behavior

Loved and enjoyed the spicy scenes 🥵 w/incredible spicy dialogue BUT imo — both MC/FC lacked emotional depth esp towards ea other despite the fleetingly described inherent personality traits. The FMC sub behav seemed too submissive fast & def mechanical considering she’s a head prison guard; her immed sub behav to MC just didn’t vibe w/what personality traits her job would demand vs little or no defiance or questioning internal dialogue at her unusual response to a man whore w/little emotional iq. Get she wanted stay alive willingness attitude but still a little self respect from a head prison guard more believable to me. Book plotted well, storyline cohesive, few grammatical mistakes but idk I will purchase next in series. Overall — Great quick tingly read desp uncommonly over the top sub behavior.

I ended up buying this one because I read a lot of reviews that said the author created a world, the development with the characters, etc, etc. I have to say that when I started reading it sounded promising except when we got to the details and then it started to sound very similar to other stories. For example, when the author talks about the Voorian's male equipment it sounds a lot like Ruby Dixon's "Ice Planet Barbarians," then the particularity of their mating process sounds a lot like Evangeline Anderson's Beasts Kindred with their mating fist. Maybe it wasn't good for me because it sounded so much to other stories I have read before thus sounding repetitive and not at all original. That being said, I did not hate it, however I can't say that I love it either. It was blah.
