Twist of Fate #3

Oz: Escaping the international modeling scene to design my own fashion collection is the first step to shucking my bobble-headed supermodel reputation and proving to the world I’m more than just a pretty face. But the minute I have to accept roadside help from the sexy man next door, I feel like the airhead people think I am. And what’s worse, the man clearly doesn’t think I’m worth the time of day.

But despite trying to ignore my attraction to the mysterious doctor, I can’t help but be drawn to him. With every moment spent together, I begin to realize he’s hiding more than just some details of his past. He has one foot out the door.

As soon as I start to feel like everything might be coming together for me, I realize the man I’m falling in love with isn’t who I thought he was.

Jake: After three years on the run for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I’ve finally found a seemingly safe place to settle in Haven, Colorado. With friends, a job, and a cabin in the woods, I have everything I need to live a simple life without drawing attention to myself. Everything’s fine. Fine.

Until I meet my new neighbor. The gorgeous man is anything but subtle and brings color to my life that I didn’t know was missing. But I learned years ago that falling in love with someone wasn’t an option anymore when simply being seen with me could have dire consequences. It’s time for me to run again, but I wonder if it’s safe to stick around just long enough for a taste…

Just when I begin to realize Oz is the missing piece to bring me back to life after years of hiding, my past catches up to me and throws everyone around me into danger. I know I should run, but what if it’s time to finally stop running and make a stand, once and for all?

Body and Soul is by far my favorite of the three Twist of Fate books. I had a feeling it would be based on the teaser chapter, and I wasn't wrong, which is good because I hate being wrong.

So many things about this story worked for me. I love enemies-to-lovers and opposites-attract tropes, and I'm an absolute hussy when it comes to the dynamic between a sassy femme guy and his gruff, masculine counterpart. (Yes, I know these are stereotypes, but it's what I like. Don't shoot me, please!)

I also crave a good slow burn, followed by plentiful steamy times, dirty talk, and moments so romantic I can smell the fucking roses.

I got ALL that AND a tiny, snarky dog named Boo whom Jake lovingly refers to as Princess Cujo.

Until three-fourths of the way through, this was very much a relationship-focused story. Jake and Oz spend a lot of time avoiding each other, doing the push/pull dance (Jake runs hot and cold, and he has reasons), and finally giving in to the insane attraction.

But then ANGST happens. And when it rains, it POURS. I blame this on Sloane Kennedy who doesn't do anything halfway. Lucy Lennox may throw in a separation and mild drama, but the violence & guns, that's all Sloane.

Here's the thing: The angst didn't come entirely out of the blue. It's hinted at in the prologue, and I suspected Jake was running from something far more intense than a broken heart. No one gives up their medical license and stops talking to their loving family for the hell of it.

But even though I expected some drama, I didn't expect THAT MUCH. Once the secondary characters got involved, we hit OTT territory.

But, hell, it was still kind of exciting. And it didn't make me love the MCs any less. Maybe it made me love them a little bit more.

Three big cheers for the sparkly epilogue, Boo & Bear, Oz's friend Zoey, and the Best Thanksgiving of All Time (I laughed so hard, I snorted water all over my Kindle).

This is the third book in this series and I was very much looking forward to this one, because it's Jake's story and I have wanted to know more about him since book 1.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor tell me more about yourself gif

I am happy to say, that I really liked both main characters in this one, which is a bit surprising, since I had issues with at least one of them in the other books (Bennett, Ash).

I am a big fan of "opposites attract" and these two are definitely the opposite of one another.  That's not to say they aren't perfect for each other......because they shared some awesome chemistry.

description

This book was a bit more humorous as the others as well and it definitely had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion.

It was wonderful seeing these two letting their guards down and falling in love. It was also great to finally find out,  what was up with Jake (one of the main reasons I wanted to read this book). I won't tell you though.....you should read it for yourself :P

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor sticking tongue out gif

I am gonna be honest and say that I am a bigger fan, of the angsty and emotional, that I am used to from Sloane Kennedy. This series, and especially this book, is much more lighthearted and sweet. But after reading such heavy books lately, it was just what I needed right now.

It was nice catching up with Bennett, Xander, Lucky, Aiden, and Ash as well ;) Very curious to see whats gonna happens next !

2.5

I usually have strong emotions when it comes to these authors because something in the story always pisses me off. What a surprise to me when this one got nothing from me because it was hella boring, like I don’t even remember what it was about and why 🤷🏽‍♀️

Coming off the last two books that had me writing paragraphs upon paragraphs of words...this was a HUGE disappointment.

Just bare boredom....

Another enjoyable episode from these ladies ! Oz was adorable - a supermodel with a cute dog, a big heart and an infectious personality. He meets Jake while his car is out of action as he begins his hiatus in designing clothes. Jake is nothing short of mesmerized and lost for words at Oz’s naïveté and can’t fathom what would bring someone like Oz to live in a cabin in the woods, particularly in winter. What begins in apprehension, builds into something else. These two guys were smitten from day 1 .. they developed their friendship into a relationship with a timeline and while they couldn’t bare for an end date it took something traumatic to keep them together. While the Jake element of being “on the run” was over the top, I guess it worked.

Well hello there surprise book!

I was not a fan of the first two books. I just went to double check this and realized I didn't write one single word about either of them. Not anything! Not even a I'm not writing a review sentence. SO WEIRD! But, Lost and Found got the 2★'s = it was ok rating and Safe and Sound did a little bit better with 3★'s.

This book, well, this book up until the end was truly a 5★ read. I'm going with a little bit less though, that end was so far over the top I just can't. Something like that, well, it almost seemed to come out of nowhere. It was not at all what I was expecting and I guess this is because there wasn't one single hint about it even though we were in Jake's head. It almost messed up the flow.

But, aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this! It was so much fun! And it was freaking hot, hot, hot. I loved both Jake and Oz as well as old friends and all the new friends. I think having the town as a sort of character this go round was also an added bonus.

Let's hold off on Lucky's story for a bit though, yeah? I'd like him start and finish college first. I know this was mentioned by the authors on FB but it was an odd addition at the end of the book so there could be some confusion. He's just 17 after all.

So, I'm going to say 4.5★'s but I'm going to round it down instead of up. This my friends is a most excellent rating for the third book in a series that I have not loved. Keep it up!

***Entertaining, funny, exciting and loving !
#3 in the Twist of Fate series, with serious topics, new found acceptance, deep feelings, witty banter, and an HEA. The stories follow one another, but each can stand alone.
Jake is a doctor, but also a man in hiding,

when he meets his new neighbor in the next cabin.

It's flamboyant Oz, a fashion designer

and his small Chinese Crested dog, Boo.

Oz gets hurt, then burned, later gets lost, and we are off to see the antics. We get back stories, but Jake's is mysterious. This is funny, tender, fascinating, and has secrets. Jake doesn't say much, but he's amazing. Oz is, of course, fabulous, and does talk a lot.

Oz fits right in with the town's ladies, and gets a project right away, as he and Jake avoid each other. There's Zander and Bennett's wedding, who we met in book one, and Ash and Aiden, book two, are coming in for that.
The town's characters are vivid and terrific, plus there is Lucky and Zoe.

We see some sizzling, erotic, mind blowing sexy times, oh yes. We get a wedding, a gunfight, a chase, a standoff, and plenty of action from Jake's past. The town guys, plus Zander are heroes.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

This is definitely still one of my favourite series.
I loved this 3rd instalment.
Focusing on Jake and Oz, this had everything. Romance, friendship, found family, secrets, mystery, action, and sex.
Oz is too adorable for words. I absolutely adored everything about him.
Of course, as always, I loved getting all of our favourites from the other books. Bennett, Xander, Lucky, Aunt Lolly, Aidan, and Ash. I also enjoyed meeting the new friends, Zoey, Wade, and Zach.
Looking forward to Lucky and Zach's story next.

4 stars.

I'm a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers romance and I knew I had to grab this one as soon as it came out. And man did this one start out strong. I loved everything about it. Jake, Oz and even his dog Boo or 'Princess Cujo' as Jake lovingly calls her.

Add the fact that this was my first book with Lucy and Sloane writing as a duo, I was seriously impressed. And not lost at all since I haven't read the others before this one.

So why not 5 stars? Because there was so. much. drama. during the last half. Like OTT drama. I had a hard time wrapping my head around everything that was happening and I did get lost at some points in the story.

But aside from that, I loved everything else. I'm going to definitely go and read the other books by the duo soon.

I really enjoyed this book overall. Oh and it was funny which is always a plus in books.

What I don’t like in books (and in this particular book as well) is when one MC is a total ass the other MC because they want them and can’t have them. This attitude for me is very juvenile and it irks me whenever I read stuff like that.

As a result, Jake pissed me off till he stopped behaving like an idiot and embraced his feelings for Oz. After he did so, a whole new side of him emerged and I even managed to warm up to him especially because of the way he kept pushing Oz up whenever he was down. Who knew the grumpy, rude ass of a Doctor had such humour & sweetness within him? Definitely not me. But I certainly appreciated it.

Now Oz was a sweetheart. He was bubbly, funny, kind and an all around great guy. He kept bringing life to the book even when I felt like throttling Jake during the early chapters of the book. I found myself enjoying my forays into his head much more than I expected.

The story proper was good;though I would’ve loved there to have been more time spent on the MCs outside the bedroom. I loved the sexy times but, had there been more time spent on the MCs outside of the bedroom, it would’ve made their “I love you’s” more believable to me.

Hints were dropped for the identities of the MCs of the next book in the series. If they’re who I’m thinking of, then it should be an INTERESTING one.

My favourite one yet on this excellent series

Even with the dramatic side plot adding a layer of extra tension this was still a super good love story.

I loved Jake, but I absolutely adored Oz and his odd little hairless mutt Boo. Together they made a gorgeous pair and I loved how Oz was absorbed into the community of Haven without really trying.

His was a cleverly crafted character, a study in contrasts and with a solid core of inner steel which allowed people to underestimate him to their own cost.

The thriller element of the plot worked well within the narrative I think and didn't seem to get over my dramatic. The big scene played out with good tension and was concluded in a way which made sense.

The smexy times were as great as you'd expect from these two authors and Jake and Oz really burned up the sheets together!

Now am intrigued to get Lucky's story and I'm wondering if it will be a May to December with Zach or if there will be a time jump before the next book.

I absolutely adored this book!

Wow! I loved the second book (the first one I did not read till now ... don't know why) but this one was seriously as good maybe even a bit better (or not) than the second.

I adored Oz, who is a bit of a dreamer but really develops as a character during this story.
Jake was kind of a mystery in the second book and at the beginning of this book I was not a real fan of him. but together with Oz he is just great.

their story is heart-warming and I really loved it!

I hope there will be another book soon. I love Lucy Lennox books, which are an auto-buy for me and this one just showed why

This whole series is fantastic. I've laughed & cried. Each story is based around a group of friends trying to get their hea. In this one model Oz wants to become as fashion designer. After finding out that another designer has stolen his ideas, Oz secludes himself away to get his collection ready for fashion week. There he meets the secretive but very sexy Jake. On the run jake has hidden himself away but when the past catches up with him is he strong enough to save Oz's life. A must read

Very nice story, fast paced, sweet with a few doses of angst/drama that fit perfectly. My first in the series, as well as from these two authors, but I never felt like I jumped in the middle of a story, and I'm looking forward to the other books in the series.

I can't stand in anymore. Those characters are so very unrealistic.
Do you believe a nurse in a small close-knit town, goes to a bar, chats with friends, and reveals the dick size of one of her patients and whether he is circumcized??
No. Just, no. For me, that was the straw.
Wait, not true. The straw was the deaf old woman with the loud voice only ever shouting sexual innuendo.

This is the third installment of the Twist of Faith series and I have to say I really liked this one. It had so many qualities that I love in books. It is dual POV and I think Oz and Jake were great MCs. Jake has shown up in bits of the previous books and from the small glimpses of him I knew I wanted to know more about him and in this one we get it.

Oz aka Laird is trying to lay low from the fashion world in order to create his new line. Tired of being seeing as nothing more than a pretty face he escapes to the town of Haven. In Haven he rents a cabin from Xander and Bennett (From book 1 of the series) in hopes of going under the radar to give himself time to work on designs that he must have ready for New York Fashion Week. This is where, in his mind, he will show the rest of the world his creative side. Unfortunately, Oz was not expecting the roughness of living out in the wilderness and on day 1 he is found stuck on the side of the road by Jake.

Jake the quite mysterious man who happens to live in the cabin next to the one Oz will be renting all Winter. All we know from previous stories is Jake has some background in medicine and he is gay. Other than that his background has been one big question mark for the readers.

When these two first encounter one another it does not go well. Jake is a jerk towards Oz and seems to think he is a helpless kid who can't hack it and over the first few days Oz seems to find himself in situations that prove Jake's theory right. These two seem to clash whenever they meet. Mostly due to Jake's a**hole ways. However, we find out Jake is acting out due to his undeniable attraction to his new neighbor and in order to keep Oz at arms length he pushes him away with his jerkiness. It takes nearly half of the book for Jake to finally pull his head from out of his a** and when Jake finally allows Oz into his life their relationship begins to blossom. When Jake gives in he warns Oz there is a deadline to what they have going on and it will end when Oz leaves back to New York. Unfortunately, Jake's past comes back to haunt him and their end appears to approach sooner than planned.

It was a really entertaining story and I have to say even all the side characters that were included were great. I thought that they really added to the story. I especially loved Oz's dog Boo or aka Princess Cujo aka Princess Piranha . So again, it was great. My only knock is the mystery revealed aka Jake's past. It was a bit OTT however, I still enjoyed the overall story.

Note: This book can be read as a standalone however, you would be missing out on the awesomeness of Xander and Bennett's relationship. But, again, it's not necessary just a suggestion lol.

[4.5/5] OK, I've been wanting to read this book since I finished the second one of the Twist of Fate Series, and I was hoping to fall in love with Jake and Oz love story the way I did with Aiden and Ash.
And I was wrong but in a good way.
I don't know why I always end up loving the big guy that is softer than he appears to be -well, maybe that's how I see myself and I'm so in love with characters that are like this too-, but let me tell you, Jake is just too damn good.
Oz is like the best friend you want to have, because he's generous, kind, lovable and hard-working creative person. I would fall in love with him so bad because he's also my type of guy.
So I did fall in love with them and also their relationship.

At the beginning they were like "I want you but can't have you" and "You're an asshole, but I want you too" thing that got me real hard.
I looove couples that begin with a harsh words but end up pulling out the best in each other. I truly believe that's what love is all about: to make you better, to fill you up with so much light and love and support, that you'll eventually be the best version of yourself. You will see the little things about the other that can melt you down to your knees, because you love them so much.
Oz and Jake are like this. And I feel so proud of them, as if I was their mother or their friend.

Also, Bennett and Xander's wedding vows make me cry a little bit. They're so perfect for each other that I feel so happy for them. And Lucky finally being able to be their son, like legally, was just the best.
I wish we could get more of Aiden and Ash, since they're my favorite couple so far. I mean.... I'm waiting for their wedding and I know I'll cry happy tears as well.
As for Zach and Lucky... there's an age gap which I'm curious about.

These ladies write one of the best couples I've ever read. I'm so in love with their stories I just can't get enough. I need these in paperback!

4.5 Stars! I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this book. Right after I won I realized that although I owned the first two books in the series I hadn’t gotten a chance to read them yet. I really wanted to read the series in order (this isn’t necessary, they can stand alone pretty well) so I ended up reading all three books in three days. I’m so happy that I did because I really enjoyed this series.

I really liked both Jake and Oz. Their story was riveting and they had off the charts chemistry. The sex scenes were super hot.

I can’t wait to read Lucky’s story. I fell in love with the characters in this series.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is definitely my favourite book by this author pairing so far. Each character worked on their own merit as well as being a well developed and totally believable couple. I guessed the drift of the story quite early but that didn't detract from enjoying it as it was a well developed plot that moved at a fast pace.

Am very much looking forward to Lucky and Zach's story :)

I shall come clean at the outset and state that I began this series with the present novel; I thus had no exposition to the overall plot and the recurring characters, if any. This did not bog down my reading, though Mrs Lennox assumes too much knowledge on Jake; apart from the fact that the grouchy ermit doctor cannot make any attachment, not enough is said, and shown, about him for his behavior to make sense and his personality to feel credible. Oz and he make a study in contrast which proved an exciting read, thanks to the lively dialogue and the smooth writing, until they managed to corral their feelings and come to an agreement; then the story hits a wall and piles huge amounts of sap, until, a hundred pages or so near the end, things suddenly heat up with Jake's mortal enemy making an unexpected apparition like a deus ex machina. I must confess to finding this conception of pacing downright unsatisfactory; I was ready to forgive the irritating overuse of many tired tropes, including the somewhat awkward instalust between both heroes, their constant, and rather mechanical, adhesion to backward gender roles (Jake is big, tall, manly and sends off strong toppy vibes, whereas Oz is lean, somewhat femme, has an ugly pocket dog and loves bright colours and expensive brands, as befits the ultimate "swish" gay) and the proliferation of over-the-top situations, from Oz's constant need for rescuing to Jake's playing good Samaritan at the local clinic despite the pressing need for laying low and not meeting many passerbys, until the villain at last came on the scene. That, combined with the excessive length of the book and the preposterous stamp of Jake's lam (he asked a policeman who was an acquaintance to help him, and received fake new ID and welfare documents at the drop of a hat ! perchance, besides a competent medic, Jake was also a seasoned jack of all trades, capable of earning his living by doing menial work !), was the straw that broke the camel's back. Two stars and a half rounded up, mostly for the writing values.

Well. That was a quick read!

description

As much as I love Sloane Kennedy books. I never managed to finish a book from Lucy Lennox.
The first book of this series was not a win for me. I could too easily tell the parts written by SK and the parts written by LL. It prevented me from really enjoying the story...
The second book though was so much better in my opinion. I really liked it and the writing was really more 'fluid'...
I guess they needed time to find their paces. And they did!

This story was really good. I loved Jack and Oz. Both completely opposite and yet so perfect together.

I won't tell Jack's secret and the reason he is how he is, that btw totally sparked my interest in the previous books, but I have to say at one point I was totally expecting one of the 'protectors' to barge in and save the day!!! That would have been so cool!

description

Anyways...

Like I said. I started this series not really into it and only because SK name on a book just is enough for me but all the characters here are very lovable.
The writing is getting good and while there was still some moments where I thought 'That was random'... there were far less than in the first book.

I wonder who might be on for the next book!

Oz & Jake both have secrets. And Boo has some fierce sass!
Exciting, edge-of-your-seat scenes and some mysterious past issues create a great adrenaline-fuel climactic point for the story.
