Tense

A tense story about paying for the things you’ve done wrong either deliberately or subconsciously.

Mike’s ex-wife’s apparent suicide leads us through a back story of his wrongdoings that he’s definitely aware of and how he might be able to redeem himself, can he redeem himself?

Traps are set to snare him by those that feel wronged either directly or indirectly by Mike. It’s quite a sad tale really as I’m sure most of us have some demons that need to be exercised.

A good story that might make the reader think about their past and how it can impact their future.

2.5/5 STARS! I really liked this. The story is different & kept you guessing as to who the bad guy was & what was really going on. It's a good action/mystery/thriller read & I liked listening to the audiobook of it. My only complaint is you dont get attached too much to any character, which makes it hard to root for anyone or really care what happens to them. I did enjoy it though, & probably will see what the rest of the series holds.

Disclaimer, I couldn't write a book and am in awe of those who can.
This is a clever story line but the writing style is remarkably difficult to follow. Introspective italicised paragraphs. sometimes in first person, sometimes in third, interrupt the narrative and add little to its flow. Stephen King was the first author that I encountered using a similar technique but he seemed almost to weave a parallel story - this didn't. Overly descriptive parts, followed by unlinked elements - a lake house, a ravine, a boat, a water patrol, all appear without warning. Good people become bad, bad become good without adding much. Revenge sex, not sex, not suicides; all rather confusing and rather nugatory. The language and word order often grated: a couple of times I checked the writer's bio in case the book had been written in another language (French perhaps) and translated to English, but from what I glean the writer is a native English speaker.
So I enjoyed the plot, and was utterly distracted by the other challenges.

Audiobook: This was my first experience with Malcolm Tanner's work, and it was entertaining. Mike Parsons' ex-wife passed away after attempting suicide. Mike sought help from the female detective who investigated her case. There were some twists and turns. I liked that events that kept happening, kept me guessing as to where the story was going. The characters were complex. I found that some of the repetitive angst that the main character exhibited got a little tiresome. Paul J McSorley's narration was fine and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Redemption

I'm sorry but, I just couldn't get into the story. I made it to Chapter 13 (29%)and gave up.
Just couldn't tell where the storyline was going or if it was ever going to get there.
Don't like the author's writing style.

Revenge is best served cold they say and this well written tale is about that.
Twisted minds that blame those they feel transgressed against them makes for a great read.
