Opposites attracting, billionaires getting kidnapped, a Papillon who’s smarter than you are, and near-death at a dog show….
Jericho Jones is giving up on social life. What social life? Six-foot-five and packed with muscles he barely earned, Jericho looks like an alpha top, when he’s actually a gentle bottom who teaches first grade and lives with his hypochondriac mother. When Jericho’s friends, Finn and Em, suggest he accompany Finn to a dog show as the handler for their Papillon, Batshit, he decides, while he might be the world’s least likely Papillon prancer, he’d be grateful for a new experience and a few days away from Mama.
Jericho’s prepared to take dog handling seriously, but he’s not prepared for the pure lust he feels for wealthy dog owner, Brees Apollonia, a guy totally out of Jericho’s league. But Brees’s family issues make Jericho’s look tame – his father wants to marry him to the daughter of a prospective business partner. When Brees starts being followed by unknown guys, he thinks his father’s trying to scare him and uses it as an excuse to be “protected” by big, hunky Jericho. But pretend gets way out of control, and suddenly the only thing between Brees and possible death is a smart dog with big ears, three intrepid women, and gentle wimp, Jericho Jones.

This is a light and fluffy contemporary romance with a fun and clever mystery to boot. Add in a sassy and adorable four legged fur baby and you can’t beat this book. Jericho and Brees make such an interesting couple in their life circumstances and physical differences but their love of dogs is what brings them together and showcases their sweet and vulnerable sides. For anyone who loves low angst books with humor and a side of mystery, you will love this book.
This is my first book of the series but it worked fine as a stand alone.. I liked Jericho and the story right away. Brees was also a likable guy. I enjoyed their meet cute and the way the story was based around a dog show with an ongoing mystery throughout the whole story. There was a great cast of supporting friends and dogs who were fun and helpful. Good entertaining story.
Movie quotes, gayness, and papillons galore feature in this cute love story with a dash of action.
Jericho is tall and ripped and secretly a big fuzzy teddy bear who just wants to be loved. Rejected too many times for his life situation and gap between looks and personality, he’s lost his self-confidence and despairs that he’ll ever find his Prince Charming.
Brees is as fierce as he is pretty, and unwillingly becomes a pawn in his father’s business schemes. Trying to escape from an arranged marriage, he and Jericho decide to pose as lovers. Tensions flare and the pretense explodes into a passion neither of them expected.
Oh and where do the papillons come in? Most of the action takes place during a dog show. Batshit the Queen of the Pagent steals the show while dishing out cuteness and sass in equal measure.
This is a light read that I enjoyed a lot.
Some issues I had were mostly in the narrative, where the major point that stuck with me is the simile “like a loon” is used five separate times to describe: smiling, laughing, grinning, and barking twice. I don’t know if this is a running joke? Way too many times. Also, there are a lot of scenes with person A explaining events to person B and then explaining them again to person C. The action gets bogged down by everyone reporting to each other, but it is cute to see how the little group works together in the e face of adversity.
The spice level is decent, tempered by humor and jokes during the hot action. I wouldn’t have minded another spicy scene, but it’s a good read nonetheless.
Just a note: this is the second book in the series (Batshit’s superhero origin story, if you will). The couple from book one is present in this one, but mostly in the background. I felt the previous events were described well enough that I wasn’t lost at all.
Memorable quote:
“Brees finally released his smile like the Krakon of enchanting sexiness.”
Jericho may look like a tough badass, but in reality he's a gentle soul looking for love with someone who understands you cannot judge a book by its cover. When he meets Brees at a local dogshow, it seems he just might be the man Jericho has been searching for all along. But there's danger afoot, and Brees is supposed to marry a woman his father wants him to, so it may not be that easy. Can Jericho live up to his appearance and protect Brees when he needs it most? Will Brees stand up to his father?
This is sweet, entertaining fun. The mystery is interesting, there's a great secondary cast, and Jericho and Brees are the cutest pair of opposites that I've read in a long time. Plus there are dogs!!! What more could you ask for in a great story?
Batshit is back! We knew that Bat was a champion (Passions of a Papillon) and now Finn and Em are getting requests to show her again. They get their gentle giant of a friend, first grade teacher Jericho Jones, to agree to be her handler. I love that the author shows us that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Jericho is a hunky 6’5” and most decidedly not a top everyone expects him to be. He is looking for someone who gets that. But after another really bad blind date he has about given up on love. But Bat and karma are about to help him out. This book is sweet and wonderfully entertaining.
Who knew how dangerous dog shows could be? Why do parents think that since they gave birth to a child and raised them, that they have the right to interfere in all aspects of their lives once they became adults? How big an influence does culture have on child rearing? Is the love of money really the root of all evil?
This is a fast paced book with lots of questions asked, answered and so much love it bounds off the page, much like the papillon on the cover!
You'll fall in love with Jericho and Brees. The ending is fantastic and there are HEA's for almost everyone. And those who don't find theirs definitely don't deserve one!
This was such a fantastic, cute, adorable, lovely, poignant, grab-you-by-the-feels, tug-at-your-heartstrings, sexy, totally awesome, and perfect blend of humor, mystery, love, and snark. Oh, and don't forget the wonderful dog. I would recommend getting this gem for yourself.
This series is just getting better and better, I absolutely loved it and will go straight to the next one. Marisol - the Papillon, also known as bat(shit) is the real star of the book, but the guys were also pretty awesome. This is an absolute fun read, sweet and fluffy with just a little dash of crime in the mix. Fabulous 4 stars!
2.75 Stars - Rounded up because Jericho Jones is such a great character.
BUT
if I never see the word ‘Woof!’ again it will be too soon. Tara Lain’s Prancing of a Papillon would be approximately 100 pages shorter if she had deleted 'Woof!' throughout. If only she had.
Prancing of a Papillon , what a great book following Passions of a Papillon . Batshit the gorgeous Papillon is back in her glorious helpful self.
This book has everything I love , it drew me in from the first page as the previous book did.. A great story line which flowed ,added with wonderful humor where I laughed out loud enjoying every minute reading this book .
The main characters Jericho and Brees and their love of dogs brought them together.
Their connection was from the first time they met , from then on there was mystery in which was extremely interesting to follow...
Now I am finished thinking back on the whole story , it's really a very good book written extremely well, the mystery , love , the dogs and the awakening of a mum was wonderful. A book I can easily recommend.

4.5*s
This is the second book in the series, and whilst you wouldn't need to read book 1 to enjoy this, it absolutely helps to set the scene, introduce us to the star - yep, Batshit the papillon!
Finn and Em are now happy and settling into their life together - and as couples often seem to do, they want their friend Jericho to find his happiness too. So they persuade him to train to be a dog show handler, so that Batshit, a.k.a. blah blah Marisol can re-enter the show world where she was so successful. This decision leads to a new adventure for Jericho, there is definitely more to showing a dog than he was expecting - but there is silver lining when he meets papillon owner Brees.
Even though these two men find each other incredibly appealing, there is a lot going on in Brees' life which complicates matters. Actually that is a major understatement! As the plot unfurls, we get to ride along on a fairly dangerous and increasingly life threatening journey. That said stairwells turned out to be good for more than just travelling between floors .... wow... the need just overwhelmed them! You may want an iced drink to hand.
I really enjoyed the side characters, Kathy turned out to be more than one expected, and even Jericho's Mum gets herself together by the end - so along with the danger, there are lots of funny, as well as warm and fuzzy moments.
Hugely enjoyable with a perfect mix of excitement, passion and a totally genius papillon called Batshit!
Rating: 4 stars I love stories with cute animals, and I must say Batsh** was my favorite character in the whole book. I loved both Jericho and Brees also but the cute little papillon stole the show. If I had any complaints it would be, I didn’t really buy into the way the Jericho’s mother changed by the end of the book. There just wasn’t enough character development with her character to justify it. Also, I was bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see Brees interaction with his parents after the events that took place at hotel. That being said, I loved Jericho’s character development throughout the story and couldn’t get enough of his interactions with Batsh**. All in all, a really enjoyable story.
Very silly (which is fine), but I didn't like this one quite as much as the first in the series. (Side note: I feel like the author named one of the characters Brees just so she could make a "stiff breeze" joke. Which I sort of respect, for commitment to the bit.)
Batshit the awesome Papillon is back!! :) Of course I loved Batshit's antics and the funny moments of the story but overall this romance and mystery didn't get me as much as the previous one.

Wow. Who knew dog shows were backdrops for intrigue? Jericho had no idea just what his friends were getting him into when he agreed to be Batsh!t’s handler in an upcoming dog show. Bat is at it again, being all cute, troublesome, and kinda handy. This time a friendly giant and a cute competitor get swept along for the ride. Jericho is tired of all the assumptions everyone makes based on his appearance alone. He’s practically given up on finding someone who is able to look past it, and allow him to be the man he really is...until the day he found himself in a heap at the guy’s feet. Brees Alloponia is trying to figure out a way out of the plans his father has for his life, or if he has to give in. The timing isn’t ideal, but he’s just as drawn to the friendly giant, as he is to Brees. So he goes for it, and boy did he go for it. First in the stairwell (holy baby Moses it was hot - 10/10), then in the hotel room (8/10). Right after that, the drama begins...
This was such a fun story, and full of unexpected twists. Bat is still the sweet pooch we fell in love with in the previous book, and just as smart as ever. I liked Jericho and Brees’ characters and personalities. They were relatable and likable. The ladies we met in this book were great sidekicks! Nobody had a clue their day was gonna wind up like this.
Like with book one, the writing was just easy flowing and made it hard to stop reading. I had to find out what happened, so I wasn’t about to put the book down! While this is book two, and Em, Finn, and Batsh!t made an appearance, it can be read as a standalone. After you spend a few chapters with this group, you’re gonna wanna see how Batsh!t became Batsh!t with your own eyes. So, just read book one first. You won’t regret it. It’s such a fun, albeit mischievous, tale. You’ll enjoy it, I know it!

More adventures with Batshit in Prancing of a Papillon in which she returns to the dog show world with the lovable Jericho Jones! I really loved Jericho and Killer in Book 1 and so happy to hear that he got his own story in Book 2. You have to feel bad for this poor guy that can't seem to catch a break. Due to his large, toppy persona, most men thinks he played football/rugby and is a pretty dominant top which proves looks can be oh so deceiving. He is the gentlest of souls and is a 1st grade teacher who is best friends with Finn and Em. Jericho has a hard time finding a relationship due to the fact that he lives with his hypochondriac mother and has to take care of her. He meets the rich and playboy (ish) Brees at a dog show and they fall in love/lust at first sight. Brees has his own family problems that make the Italian Mob look like distant cousins. This was a really wonderful light-hearted read with great HEA for both Brees and Jericho. Everything worked out in the end and I'm hoping there's a Book 3:)
This is a sequel to Passions of A Papillon, the fun series starter. Now this time it's with a different main couple but still with the first couple as supportive characters in the story, too. MM Contemporary Romance with a HEA, no cliffhangers, no cheating. No especial trigger warnings in my opinion. I'd not read this as a standalone.
Hahaha! I loved the first and I love this. Just as much fun as the series starter when it gains speed. Funny, romantic, sweet and cute, light. Fast speed roller coaster, action, mystery, kidnapping, bad guys, meddling parent, some angst suitably dosed. Jericho and Brees make a cute lovable couple. There are cute dogs, dog shows, and the main attraction acts as a lifesaver!
Such a fun, romantic, enjoyble read. The same kind of writing style as the series starter. Heartmelting when you're in the mood for this type of a story. It's such a light good mood read really, easy to read, for when one wants one of those :)
I loved this episode in the adventures of Batshit. Jericho was an interesting character in the first book, becoming very much the hero in this one. Jericho’s mum starts out quite an unpleasant, self absorbed character, redeemed in the end. Brees, well Brees is a lovable guy with an unfortunately selfish, manipulative family. In this book we have manipulation, intrigue, spying, kidnap, Great secondary characters and dog shows. Through it all Batshit is on top of things, saving the day.... again. The romance was fun, almost insta love, the epilogue proved it was lasting and growing. I really would like to see more of Batshit and her extending gang.
This was such a sweet, fluffy, cute contemporary romance that was so much fun to read! Also the dog was hilarious! I loved how these two got their friend Jericho to show the dog. He was such a sweetie even though he looks like a tough guy. I will definitely have to go back and read the first book since this one was so much fun to read. Jericho and Brees were such amazing characters and their story was a blast to read. They had somethings to work out but it was done very well. I do want to meet this dog in real life too!
That was an amazing story full of lath and adventure with a twist or two that spices up everything. The characters are full of life, with their own insecurities and certain expectations that makes them unhappy. The story is paved with a lot of funny moments, a little suffering granted by insecurity, jealousy and miscommunication and a high dose of heroism from a sweet papillon and his handler. I really loved the book and can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Jericho looks like an “Alpha” but actually is a teddy bear. Brees is an executive and an owner of papillon. Loved Batshit!! In typical Tara Lain style this story is full of humor, adventure, awesome characters. There are typically realistic personal issues to overcome. Love the story!! Well written. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
It was effortless to fall so throughly into the lives and relationships of the people here.
Prancing of a Papillon (Fuzzy Love 2) by Tara Lain
Rating: 5 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
This story has such amazing energy! And I’m not just talking about that great title.
From the start I fell in love with the plot, characters, and settings for Prancing of a Papillon.
It was effortless to fall so throughly into the lives and relationships of the people here.
From the sad, vulnerable moment we meet Jericho Jones , with his mother’s Cairn terrier, Killer, and , of course, Bat. He’s on a blind date and it’s awful. Jericho is sweet and gentle and introverted. The exact opposite of what his huge “Exterminator “ exterior projects. That sets up an immediate conflict between what the men he meets assumes he’s going to be and the withdrawing “old maid “ he considers himself to be. That chasm leads once more to disaster. And a broken-hearted harshly rejected Jericho.
Fear not! Because this man and romance has a super Papillon on his side!
Bringing back Bat’s owners from Passions of a Papillon, Finn and Em, our gentle hearted first grade teacher Jericho proceeds to get involved in the wildly entertaining business of the professional dog show world. A former Best in Show and Champion, Bat has been missed on the circuit and who’s better to accompany Bat on her return as her handler then Jericho! But he needs training.
Enter Ichiko the trainer/handler for well known Papillon breeder and downright gorgeous Brees Apollonia., Rodolfo , his Champion Papillon in tow. Soon there’s romance, mystery, suspense, and fabulous dogs prancing their hearts out in show rings to cheers from the crowd. There’s even another wonderful secondary character, Kathy … new owner/handler of Papillon White Trash, to join in on the action..
Prancing of a Papillon! You got that right! If you’ve ever seen Westminster or Crufts Dog Show then you’ve seen this breed. All high energy, enormous butterfly ears at attention, the brightest eyes totally focused on the job and handler. Ah but put them down and let them start around the ring? Magic! Those tiny legs pumping , flying up high, prancing as fancy as anything imaginable, head held like royalty. And barking to let everyone know they are THERE! Always to the huge enjoyment of the people watching. YouTube it.
Tara Lain has captured this perfectly. The flow of communication between dog and handler. The judging and the various owners/ handlers. It’s quite the show and not just in the ring.
In fact everything about this story is just so fine. The characters, (Jericho Jones I truly adore), the many layered plot, the venue. The romance which swung from fragile to sexy to perfection …..woof!
And yes, the humor, bravery, and cheers for Bat and all the dogs involved.
Yes, this turned out to be my favorite after all. That’s hard in a series I loved this much. Grab them all up and find your own.
Fuzzy Love series. Passions of a Papillon Prancing of a Papillon Perils of a Papillon
If you want a light, breezy read, Tara Lain, queen of adorable byplay, hits another home run with Prancing of a Papillon. It’s Book 2 in her Fuzzy Love series, but reads perfectly as a standalone. And if its charm isn’t sufficient enticement, there are bad guys, smart dogs, and nasty parents, oh no!
Papillon’s premise is simple. Hefty Jericho, a peaceful, clumsy first-grade teacher, is looking for love. But men see his size and assume he’s athletic and domineering. What’s more, Jericho lives with his hypochondriac mom. “He accepted that she was sick and helpless. She accepted that he was gay, a wimp, and had no ambition.” These circumstances tend to make all dates flee. One of Jericho’s few pleasures is to help care for his friends’ rescue dog. When it is learned that the tiny, big-eared papillon is a former show dog, Jericho agrees to take “Champion Rosewell’s Marisol of Treadwell” to a competition.
Wealthy, successful Brees also shows papillons. His mogul dad has just insisted Brees marry a woman who can benefit their business, even though papa knows Brees is gay. Unfortunately, the potential bride’s dad, a scary mafia-type, also wants their businesses conjoined, and threatens to withdraw financial support from the bride’s sick mother (his first wife) unless his daughter marries Brees. Luckily, Brees has a weekend to contemplate this new reality, as he and his handler, Ichiko, show his papillon, Killer, at a competition.
Prancing of a Papillon is a “grin-your-way-through” romance, starting with the unofficial name of Jericho’s dog, ‘Batshit.’ The crackling chemistry between these guys is foreshadowed when they meet and tiny Killer knocks Jericho down. Brees’ response to Jericho’s height? “‘Oh my, I didn’t quite realize I’d bitten off more than I can chew.’” The dogs are as adorable as they should be. “Jericho scratched to the top of her tail and she got that silly shit-eating grin that always went with a good tail scritch.” Doesn’t every cat and dog owner know that expression?
But Lain can also make serious points with simplicity. For example, Jericho admits to a friend, “‘I really am a classic underachiever. Some people don’t like that. Especially in Southern California, mecca for over achievers.’” His friend wisely replies, “‘Clearly one of the people who doesn’t seem to like that is you. You can only be a classic underachiever if you’re happy about it.’” A well-timed suspenseful arc moves the plot and romance forward, as the bumbling bad guys keep showing up. Who sent them? What do they want? Yay! Smart little Batshit gets to help our heroes save the day. Ichiko and other supporting players add depth while Ms. Lain gives us a neat surprise conclusion to round off the book.
For a fun romp, dogs you’ll wish you could pet, a touch of psychological perceptiveness, the excitement of competition and yummy tension, ‘Prancing of a Papillon’ has it all. Tara Lain proves that light and easy novels can still be well-rounded.
Jericho has agreed to help his friends at the dog show, and he is ready to enjoy a few days away from his meddling mother, but he is not ready for Brees and the emotions the man brings out. Soon the two are on an adventure of their own. Can Brees and Jericho find the strength to go after what they want and to against everything that their family wants?
This book is a great continuation of this series. Once again, we get the antics of a great dog and a couple of wonderful friends. Brees and Jericho’s story is a fun and fast paced story that will have you smiling and rooting for love. It was nice to see their friendship grow into something more as the two spend time together. Both are good men who must decide if they will follow their hearts and fight for what they really want. As Jericho and Brees try to figure things out they must also deal with revenge and kidnapping. Not only did I enjoy Brees and Jericho, but the secondary characters made themselves known as well. I loved seeing all the friendships and relationships that develop and change throughout this story. The author does a good job of bringing the reader into this world and keeping you engaged all the way to the end.
I was already charmed by Jericho after reading Passions of a Papillon. I mean how can you not find endearing a soft speaking giant, so cute holding a miniature dog in his hands? Prancing of a Papillon showed me that Jericho was deeply insecure and shy. I hated it. At least the events unfolded in the book gave him the opportunity to prove to himself that he could be so much more, that he had so much to give.
Meeting Brees and going to the dog show with Bat put Jericho to the test and changed his life. And I know that the star of this book should be Batshit (and I still can't get over her name lol), but Jericho is the one who stole my heart. I loved the way he fought his insecurities and braved through his fears, his incredible growth one trial after another.
You'll fall in love with Jericho, too, if you give this book a chance. Even if you won't, I'm absolutely certain you'll enjoy his romance with Brees or laugh at Batshit's shenanigans, and you'll definitely get caught up in the action and mystery. Because Prancing of a Papillon has a bit of everything in the plot, that I'm sure could satisfy any taste.
This book was really sweet and a little funny and a tiny bit tense. Jericho is a man who is giving up on finding love. He has a "sick" mother to care for and he loves his job as a teacher. He's also a gentle giant. When he decides to become a dog handler for Batshit his whole life changes. Brees is rich and handsome. He has show dogs that he pays a professional handler to show for him even though he attends the competitions. Little does he know that he's about to come face to face with a man who will totally change the trajectory of his life. There's a forced engagement, appearances by Batshit's owners and instalove (not a fan of instalove).
Why did I give this story 5 stars? It made me smile and it was fast to read. Even thought the story was silly at points, I enjoyed the shenanigans, the relationships and Batshit. Who wouldn't love Batshit?!
