Dark and glamorous, The Weavers is a Young Adult fantasy perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas.
Ivy Pyne has been kept in strict isolation by her power-hungry uncle, secretly dreaming about making friends, going to university and falling in love. She dares not try to defy him, for fear of what he might do to her or her family.
But one cold October evening, Ivy's beloved Grandmother disappears without a trace. Through no fault of her own, Ivy is plunged into the world of the Weavers - ruthless creatures who have been blending in undetected with humans for centuries, weaving their dark magic into clothes and surrounding themselves with all the luxuries money can buy. But now there is an even greater evil stirring; a mysterious Uniter is gathering the twelve Grand Weaver Families under her ultimate rule to enslave humanity forever.
Desperate to find her Grandmother and bring her back to safety, Ivy gains an unusual companion in Cal, who believes Ivy's Grandmother holds the key to bringing down the Uniter. But despite sharing a common goal and growing feelings for one another, Ivy needs to remember that in this new and unsettling world, nothing is what it seems.
Set in modern London, where dark alleys and opulent parties alike hold deadly secrets, this is a story about one girl fighting against powerful but seductive evil...
Growing up in a small village, Ania used sticks and cardboard to act out the stories that were always racing through her mind. Today, Ania lives in London and although the stories haven't stopped, she now prefers using pen and paper! When not writing, Ania likes to read and explore hidden gems around the city. Beautifully written with a compelling story. This was my first book of 2022 and it's set the bar high! The end of each chapter had me quickly turning the page to start the next one. I read most of it in one day. The characters are well developed and the plot is so clever and unique. I also enjoyed that the plot was contained to one book, as opposed to being the start of a long series, but I do hope Whiteley does more with this world. I loved that it was set in contemporary London. I recognized so many of the locations and others were written so well that I've added them to my list of spots to seek out on my next trip. If you love London, fantasy, fashion, and magic, definitely give this book a read! I can't wait to see what Whiteley writes next! This was a solid debut effort. Whiteley is one to watch for sure.
In this, her debut novel, Ania weaves a story full of magic and intrigue, with engaging characters and a page-turning plot that will have you reading deep into the night. Cannot recommend it enough!
I really enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to read something with such m a unique concept. I haven’t read anything similar to it that I can remember. I love fashion, London and urban fantasy stories so I suspected this would be right up my street and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the mystery element of the story and genuinely couldn’t work out where it was going to go so that was a nice surprise too. From the beginning and not knowing exactly what happened to Althea and how she was truly connected to everything really pulled me in. I think the characters were interesting and well written and I loved being pulled into Ivy’s journey but I also enjoyed reading some of the other characters like Balthazar and Daciana too, the other characters were just as interesting as the lead! A great debut and I would recommend this to anyone who loves urban fantasy stories.
