There was just something I really loved about this book. It was sweet and after I had finished reading it, I just felt happy!
It could have been longer in all honesty, and the issues involved explored more deeply and I would have happily read it. But, it left me with such a lovely warm feeling after reading it, it is hard to fault that.
It had some great side characters, with some humorous moments. It did include a scene some ppl may find difficult to read and I had a few niggling issues with certain things but it was still a 5 star read for me.
I've been wavering all day about my rating for this book.
On the one hand, I really enjoyed it. It was sweet, it was VERY hot, and I enjoyed the characters.
On the other hand, there were some niggles I keep having about the story, so I am wavering between 3 and 4 stars.
My niggles- First off, was the heroine, Jenny's thinking to herself about how she really needs to get laid, only later to think to herself that she never got what all the fuss about sex was, she'd never had really great sex. Why do you feel the need to do something you never really enjoyed before? lol!
Then there is the hero, William. He was really shy, and really sweet. A 28 year old virgin. I love reading about those. His reasoning behind still being a virgin were sound. He had a hellish upbringing, which made him almost painfully shy and awkward in social situations.
What I didn't like was that we never got to see him tell Jenny that she was his first EVERYTHING. His first date, his first girlfriend, his first kiss, his first sexual experience. I really wanted to see that revelation, see how she reacted. I don't know why, but I feel almost robbed somehow, that he never told her.
And then there's Evan. I figured pretty early on that he was bad news, and that he would somehow end up attacking Jenny. And I was right. But I felt it was too easy that he would run in front of a car and be killed. He never had to answer for what he did, and it just seemed to easy, all nice and wrapped up in a little bow.
But at the end of a day of thinking on the story, I still greatly enjoyed the story, the characters, and the writing, so I think I'll stick with 4 stars, although it's probably more of a 3.5 read for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
eh...well..no I didn't like it that much..it started out good. Oh well.... apart from the fact that the word c*ck,length and erection was mentioned a little to often right from the beginning..
I like the idea of Will seeing her from his window and finally working up enough courage to actually go out to meet her, the sweet and shy man meeting the adorable and quite quirky girl...
The sweet, shy virgin! that never once told her she was his first everything..and he sure was a talent at many things O.o
a little light spoiler ahead
a virgin that has no problem lasting!and performing the first time he not only has sex, but from what you read also the first kiss, the first naked breast oh hell even the first time he's even close to a woman...and get this he does not only last and makes it good for her AND he tries a little anal fingering..jeee impressive or what...and I'm like...eh..no.... he would have blowed he's load right away and he would never ever play with the "backdoor" on his first time...
and on the second time visit to the “backdoor” it was pretty much wham bam thank you mam....he was pounding away like you wouldn't believe it and she's like yeah more...uh yeah more PREPARATION maybe.., and a lot less pounding would be a good idea..
I can't believe I'm about to write this....BUT...it would actually have been better without the sex..The basics are a really sweet and fun love story but with the sex....bad porno....
I like sex in a book..you know having a dirty mind and all..but not just sex..it has to be chemistry and feelings and build-up and a few kisses (written by the right author kisses can be sizzling hot) believable characters and believable sex..
oh wait is there good porn?..uh well probably not so ok without the feelings and chemistry its like a porno with really ugly people and guys with really small d*cks
Easily 4- 4.25 stars for me. I love Will-strong silent type-man of few words. He was so great with Jenny. Wow, talk about soul mates. I felt their chemistry and noticed how compatible they are. I'm full of cliches' but her goes: they bring the best of of each other. Jenny and Will are both single for quite a while when they meet. Jenny is more outgoing and Will is almost a recluse. Katie Allen did a wonderful job of telling the (very lifelike) story of Will & Jenny. I had this book on my Wish List for a long time- maybe a year (!!) Off the subject for a sec, this book was written in 2009 & it is still over $5.00 U.S. I'm not sure why the price hasn't gone lower- but that is the main reason that I waited to read it. I've heard great things about B.T.S. & I agree. I really like it & would recommend this book. It's a standalone & pretty good ending. There's a major plot twist about 3/4 through & it's handled very well.
What a wonderful book! I loved this sweet story. Will was awesome. Overcoming a terrible childhood but still lacking in social interactions. Jenny helps him overcome his shyness and insecurity. But he is also possessive, protective and sweet.
What kept this from being a five star? At times the story dragged a little. Not a lot, but sometimes scenes were too drawn out and I wanted to move on to the next one. The sex scenes were hot, but I almost felt they too were too drawn out. But I was happy with the quantity of sexy times. The book started so sweet, I was worried it would be very Puritan. But it was not alt all! Other than Jenny and Will meeting and falling in love, not a lot else happened util a shocking event. Luckily it brought them closer together.
Totally safe from OW/cheating. Like could not be more safe!
Breaking the Silence from Katie Allen was such an incredible book for me. What first caught my eye was the fact that the hero, who is a bit socially inept, but an amazingly looking specimen of manhood, was a virgin. When it comes to virgin heroes, I am a big, big fan. Not only does Katie deliver a wonderful portrayal of man who is more assured working on his computer alone in his house than around people, but she has written a book that will hold your interest till the very last page.
William Jackson has finally bought his own home after years of hard work. He has overcome a great deal in his life where he was in a foster home that was full of horrors. But William was able to survive and now he has a great life. His work as a computer programmer may seem boring but he is pretty good at his job. Ever since he moved into his house, he lives for the afternoon when he can watch a woman walk her dog along a path near his house. William knows that this is a bit too stalker like and creepy, but William has no experience with women. William has never gone on a date or even had a girlfriend. His sexual experience is nothing because as he was growing up, he was always looking over his shoulder in fear. He has never been at ease with people and has become a hermit. But since he made the move to buy a house, he has a new outlook on life and will put one step in front of the other and try to meet the cute dog walker and make conversation with her.
Jenny Fitzgerald is an engineer at a firm where she gossips with her co-worker and gay friend, Christian who wants her to get laid. Jenny hasn’t had a date in forever and is at her wits end. When she looks in the mirror, she sees a pretty nice looking face staring back at her. But she can’t understand why there are no men around for her to pick. The only offer is from her overly friendly co-worker Even who freaks her out. He stares at her and always comes around to bother her. There is even a pool at work for when he will finally ask her out. Jenny is definitely not interested in that man, no matter how desperate she gets. So instead she laments on her single status and walks her dog when suddenly a god from the sky appears in front of her.
Jenny can’t believe her luck when the most gorgeous guy she has ever seen is on the path she uses to walk Rosie, her dog. He may not be much of a talker, but there is something about him that Jenny likes. She may be a bit shallow in her attraction to the sex god since he is so beautiful to look at, but as she gets to know William, she can see he is a really nice guy who goes out of his way to listen to her talk and seems interested in her life. And when she invites him to a work function, he accepts. Jenny can’t wait to show William off to everyone at work. And perhaps she will get a few make out sessions with him.
William never thought a beautiful woman like Jenny would give him the time of day. He doesn’t see his appeal and thinks the only reason people stare at him is because he looks awkward. But when Jenny stares at him, he can’t help but think that Jenny finds him pleasing. Being with her makes him happy and he feels like he belongs. He just hopes he can hold back his urges because he would love nothing more than to throw her against a wall and have his way with her. William’s wishes keep coming true because Jenny would love for William to ravish her, and ravish her he does. Jenny doesn’t know that William is a virgin, not that it matters, because the sex they have together is mind blowing. We are talking about firework exploding and stars shooting (only in a romance!). Both are so over the moon with each other that they can’t dare to leave each other’s company. William can hardly keep his emotions in check, he bawls like a baby during an intense session of lovemaking with Jenny. Jenny thinks William is so perfect and too adorable for words.
Everything is going great for both Jenny and William, that is until Evan, who is so obsessed with Jenny, wants revenge for refusing him. What he does to Jenny may destroy the love both she and William have finally found with one another.
Breaking the Silence is an emotional and so very romantic story. We have two people who find something wrong with themselves, finding each other. I couldn’t help but compare Breaking Silence to the movie, Untamed Heart with Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei. The reason is because the character of William reminded me so much like Christian in the movie. William is the shy, not too vocal hero who adores the heroine with every sense of his being. He is so uncomfortable in his own skin that it takes the love of Jenny, a fun and caring woman, to show William how great he is. Some of you may think, oh waaa… the boo hoo sexy hot hero has problems, but still looks incredible because of his looks. I think the point that Katie is making with her story is that no matter what you look like to others, such as with William and his model looks, if you think you are below average or weird, it doesn’t matter. William’s past made him into the man he was when Jenny meet him. He is unsure and so afraid of living because when he was a teenage, someone cruelly took his innocence away. When he finally meets Jenny and learns to live, he is still so very much an innocent, much like a baby taking their first few steps into the world.
Jenny was perfect for William because she was almost the total opposite of William. She was bubbly, optimistic and just enjoys life. And her life became so much more sweeter with William beside her. Her initial attraction towards William was because of his appearance but that all changed when she saw who he was inside. When it came to sex between these two, it was playful, loving and so very intimate, exactly what he needed.
Also a word of warning. The topic of rape is very blunt here and there is a scene that will make you cringe because it is a violent attempt at rape. Katie makes sure to stop things before they can go so very wrong. The aftermath and the recovery was handled so very well.
Not many books make me want to go on and on why they are so very special, and Breaking the Silence is one of them. Katie Allen has definitely caught my eye. This is one book that shouldn’t pass you by
Okay...I'm going to have some HUGE SPOILERS on here but I've got to rant a little.
First of all, for the first 65% or so I loved this book. It was light hearted, sweet, fun and HOT.
Jenny was so cute and witty. She said some of the funniest things I've read in a while. I loved how she brought Will out of his shell. She was just what he needed.
Will...what can I say about Will...for a man with very little words he spoke volumes. I absolutely loved how he would get off to fantasies of Jenny and he had never even met her. He had only seen her from his window. Slowly he came out of his shell and you begin to really see him. He was so possessive and loving towards Jenny. And for a virgin hero, MAN, could he set some sheets on fire! Whew...is it hot in here?? He must have watched a lot of porn! And above all, when IT happens, he is there for her in all ways. He was awesome.
Now, one thing that bugged me a lot was around 84%, Will tells Jenny he loves her. It's very clear she does too but what she says is"I think I love you back". Now, this just put a bad taste in my mouth. We're already 84% in to the story and they've spent several weeks together (yes, it's a very quick romance) so at this point, I would expect her to KNOW she loves him. I. DO. NOT. WANT. "I think I love you". I want "I love you too" Too as in also...not maybe, or I'm not sure. I want DEFINITELY. I was SO girl crushing on her up to this point. Then, I was just mad. By this time, IT had happened and she knew what kind of man Will was. He stood by her at a terrible time in her life. He revealed his own personal tragedy to her so she would know he knew how she was feeling. HE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT. I was in love with him at this point.
SO, at 95% MAJOR SPOILER HERE, he asks her to marry him. Her first response is "Shit, really?". Then she says "Oh, what the hell. Okay!" And I'm sitting here like WTF??? Uhhhh....How about a yes....
THEN, he says "I love you" again. And she says, wait for it........."Yeah, I figured." WTF did I just read???
Now, when they have sex the first time after IT, she cries. He wants to know if he did something wrong...awwww, he's so sweet. He wants to know why she's crying. She says, "I don't know why. Relief? Release? Because I love you?" This is the closest we get to an "I love you" from her. I was really disappointed.
This wasn't a perfect book but I enjoyed it 100 percent. The hero, Will, is a nerdy super shy virgin. And the hottest one ever. That was one of the problems but it was so minor. He was so damaged by his early life. He was shy and sweet and just so head over heels for the heroine, Jenny. It was lovely to see him come out of his shell. For those that like virgin heroes and heroes who are super big guys this is a great read. The best part was that he didn't change immediately into an alpha hot guy. He changed and came out of his shell a bit and gained more confidence but it was slow and believable. Any problems the book had with pat solutions to dilemmas was totally overshadowed by the greatness of the hero.
Not quite sure why this book is so popular amongst my friends. There was almost no plot of which to speak. The characters meet have sex, sex, and more sex. They don't really get to know each other. The story takes place in a very short amount of time. Will is this gorgeous, muscular Viking kinda hermit who's 28 and a virgin. I really didn't buy the reason why he was a virgin for so long. Now if he were a troll and a butterface, then yeah maybe.
Jenny was so unrealistic and one dimensional. One thing that bugged the shit out of me was the lack of brushing their teeth. The first night they have sex they do it all night long. Then they wake up and do it some more. They have a shower but never mention Will asking to borrow a toothbrush. Then the next night Jenny gets drunk at Christian's house and Will comes over and they all fall asleep. Then they go to Will's house and have sex until noon. Then they get up and go for breakfast. Drinking coffee instead of brushing your teeth is not sexy.
Don't even get me started on the fact that Jenny is an anal virgin but on her second time having sex with Will and just a bit of lotion she has turned into an anal-loving slut! I want my 24 hours back from reading this drivel!
Really good story. It started out kind of slow until the couple finally meet. An awkward big handsome man of few words sets out to meet the girl he’s been watching from his window. Our cute sweet unattached girl is funny and light hearted. And, when our hero comes out to meet her on the path the story comes to life.
Our gentle giant is a kind loving man who actually showed his emotions. The drama in this romance was just right for this story. It was a quick sweet read that I liked very much. Really Good Read!
4.5Will stars!I absolutely loved Will. He is such a sweet , shy, hot, loving, loyal mysterious man! Jenny was awesome to but at times I found her and Christian alittle annoying.haha idk why. There were some triggers that were a little stressful to read about Very enjoyable read(mainly will) lol.
safety : remembrance of a prior rape and a detailed attempt rape. Other then that safety gang safe!
Title: Breaking the Silence Author: Katie Allen Rating: 3.75 stars POV: dual POV HEA: Heat/Steam 4/5 Cliffhanger: . No. Intolerable Heroine .no. Über Douchebagery .no. Taboo Subject Matter .yes. Child abuse and attempted rape. Cheating: Love Triangle
This book had almost everything needed for the perfect story. I absolutely love reading about virgin heroes and while some might find some of Will's behavior to be creepy I couldn't help but love it.
I was going for a 4/4.5 star rating up until after Jenny gets home from the hospital. I had been waiting the entire damn book for him to tell her he had been a virgin...AND HE NEVER DOES!
I felt like this was such a major part of his character. We know that he's this lonely sheltered man who has had absolutely no experience with women. It's impacted the kind of man he is and adds to all his adorable quirky charm. Why on earth would the author not have him tell Jenny about this!?? I NEEDED to read about her reaction to this and it's honesty why I rated the book down. What's the point of knowing that if he never even tells her. I was so frustrated by this omission that I ended up skimming towards the end. I would have also loved a nice epilogue!
3.5 stars for Will's character alone because he was such a beautiful hero and I just wanted to imagine him snuggling up between my boobies too. Haha["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Adorkable virgin hero finally gets the nerve to talk to curvy sweet heroine and a friendship blossoms into a serious relationship but darkness is just around the corner in the form of a jealous, vindictive coworker, Evan.
Now I'm rather wishy-washy about this rating. Something between 2.5 & 3.0. I really love socially awkward, adorkable heroes but I have say that Will was almost too adorkably sweet and the virgin aspect is more like a red herring than anything else. Jenny is fine as a heroine. I didn't like her nor dislike her. In fact, I have to say that's true for all the characters (even the evil Evan - snort). These characters were just there, and kinda flat, actually.
This story lacked something in terms of characterization for me but I have to say that it kept me reading. I wanted to see exactly how things were going to work out. Maybe I was just in the mood for an adorkable hero. There is a rather violent almost rape scene and characters have to deal with that but overall it still felt rather flat for me.
I originally read this in 2016 and rated it 4 stars. I decided to reread and wondered why I only rated it four stars because I loved it…well now I know it was because there was NO epilogue ☹️ very unfortunate. I also found it odd that he never told her she was his first
I have a soft spot for a tortured hero. I can't help it. There is nothing that melts my butter any quicker than a big strong ox of a man with issues and a shy, sensitive side. And that describes our protagonist to a T. William is a quiet computer programmer who moved around his whole life, but he's finally settled into a beautiful house in icy Minnesota. He works from home, doesn't leave the house much, and has no social life to speak of. The best part of his day is looking out of his window to see this woman walking her dog. He doesn't know what it is about her, but he is drawn to her and he lives for the moments when he can catch a glimpse of her from his bedroom window. Yea, I know. It sounds terribly creepy, but it's not. William is just painfully shy and he can't get up the nerve to go and talk to her. The most he can do is masturbate to thoughts of her while he is in the shower. Again, I know that sounds creepy....but it's not. He's PAINFULLY shy. So shy that he is 28 years old and he's never really been on ANY dates, he’s never kissed a girl, and yes, he is a virgin.
The woman he watches is Jenny. She’s 26 and works in a comfy little cubicle at an engineering firm. Her cube-mate is her gay BFF, Chris. One day while Jenny was in Chris’s cube, trying to fix his screwed up email, the office asshole, Evan, approaches them. It was common knowledge that Evan was into Jenny. The office even had a betting pool going as to when he would finally ask her out. Turns out, today’s the day. Of course, Jenny turns him down.....lying and saying that she just started seeing someone and that he just might be “the one”. Evan doesn’t exactly believe her, but at least it gets him to leave her alone. For now, at least.
That afternoon turns out to be the time when Will finally gets up the nerve to go out to the walking path to meet Jenny. She was walking and not paying attention.....and she almost bumps into him. They share awkward introductions, and Jenny is amazed by how handsome and shy this Norse God of a man is. As the days go by, Will continues to meet up with Jenny and her dog Rosie for walks. One one of these walks, Jenny asks Will to go with her to a work reception. Eagerly, Will says yes. Yes to their first date....which turns out to be his first date with anybody, not just with Jenny. Although Will isn’t much of a talker at the party, everyone seems to love him - except for Evan. And he is his usual dickish self. Even though Jenny was lying about having a boyfriend when Evan initially asked her out - in fact, she hadn’t even met Will at the time - showing up at the reception with what appeared to be her boyfriend was hopefully enough to ward off Evan the asshole for good. (Although that isn’t why she asked him to go.....Jenny does genuinely like him.)
The party ends and Jenny and Will head back to her place - and on a whim, Jenny asks him to come inside. And the proceed to have ridiculous hot monkey sex. They make it to the bedroom, but only stop long enough to push just enough clothes out of the way to allow some skin on skin contact. (That kind of sex is SERIOUSLY fucking hot.) And despite the fact that Will is a virgin, he sure as hell knows what he’s doing in the bedroom. My guess.....he watched a lot of porn. You know, for instructional purposes. But whatever his methods, he sure managed to turn Jenny’s crank. And afterwards he wanted to cuddle! WTF! Is the perfect? Yes, I think he might be. And Jenny has pretty much drawn the same conclusion. Their relationship continues on with hot sex, them getting along in every aspect, and Will coming out of his shy and reclusive shell. And then the unthinkable happens - Jenny gets attacked one night and Will comes in on the very end of it and runs the guy off and is left with a broken and shaky Jenny. While trying to comfort her, he keeps moaning over and over again, “not Jenny, not Jenny, not Jenny”. It was hinted at throughout that Will did not have the best childhood. You knew that his lack of dating or sex or kissing even in 28 years stemmed from something other than shyness. After Jenny comes home with him to recover, they finally have the discussion that allows Will to open up about his past and begin to heal and it allows Jenny to heal as well, knowing that someone does know what she’s going through.
The book ended as I had hoped, but you know me.....I wanted one more chapter. An epilogue. Further proof of their happy ever after. I’m really trying to come to terms with my neediness on this front. Really.
I have to say that this review took me FOREVER to write. Why? Because I wanted to write about everything I loved - all the small aspects of Will’s actions and personality that made him one of the sweetest characters that I’ve come across since I’ve been reading romance novels. He was all man, but pure at heart to the point of being almost childlike. He was just an unnaturally sweet soul that just happened to reside in the body of Zeus (as his coworkers called him). His character could have very easily come across as creepy, but he never did. Not one moment in the story made me question Will or his motives. He was genuinely sweet and dear God did I root for him all the way.
I loved everything about this book. This is the second book that I’ve read by this author and I’ve given them both 5 stars.....yet I have never seen this author mentioned on any of the book blogs that I read. Why? She’s fabulous. Her dialogue is charming and funny without being cliche and she knows how create characters that you fall instantly in love with. So please take my advice, check out this book. It’s a beautiful story.....and I dare you not to fall in love with Will! I.Dare.You.
This book is a romance between William, a solitary computer programmer who has a traumatic past and his neighbor who he lusts after every time she walks her dog by his house.
This book could just be a product of its time, but the attempt at an emotional, gripping, yet romantic storyline just kind of fell flat for me. I think I blame it on how superficial it all felt? It almost read like a debut novel, to me. Instead of being invested in the characters and their relationship, I found myself kind of rolling my eyes a bit.
Maybe it is because even though William wasn't quite the socially awkward, cinnamon hero that I was hoping for or possibly because the crazed coworker storyline was a little over-the-top. I'm not sure, but either way, I was a bit disappointed in this one.
Golly dang, this was hot. HOT. And sweet. And had some sad/bad bits. And a couple of tired tropes, but we’ll forgive those in light of the steam. CW: sexual assault
Will is a computer programmer who is extremely shy and introverted, due in part to a hard childhood in foster care. He sees a woman walking behind his home with her dog daily, and thinks she is beautiful. He finally works up his courage to talk to her. When he meets Jenny, she is as fun and appealing as he'd hope she'd be. They begin to date. But then a weirdo from Jenny's work is getting angry because he sees her with Will. Evan previously pursued Jenny, but she turned him down. In his anger, he attacks Jenny. Following the attack, emotions run high as Jenny tries to recover and Will deals with his own memories of childhood violence.
The romance between the main characters was so, so sweet and then once they finally came together it was very hot. The supporting cast was great and dialogue really funny. Also very emotional at times after she was attacked, and trying to get past her fears. It was beautiful how Will helped her to move past her fears.
I had read a few of Katie Allen's other books (One Two Punch, Chasing Her Tail, Raw Footage) and enjoyed them, but I think this one is the best. The emotional connection between the characters and also following the attack is really well done.
I bought this book directly from the publisher as an ebook (pdf) for 5.95, in case you don't want to pay printed book pricing and like me do not have a kindle.
This wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't that great either. There were a lot of details missing, like why Will was a virgin in the first place. It did go into a bit of detail on his traumatic event, but again, it was only bare minimum there. Jenny was an interesting heroine, the perfect opposite to Will, and yet he never mentioned being a virgin to her, even though it was clear to the reader that he was one. The relationship moved very quickly, and while they explained it away, it also didn't feel quite plausible. All in all, it was a quick read, but slightly implausible and definitely lacking on full details!
A favourite writer, great story and writing. The H is handsome introvert, very smart. He's building up the courage to meet the pretty h who lives close by. She's wonderful, fun and light-hearted, and very attracted to him. It's very steamy, and also very brutal with an evil OM who is stalking the h. A favourite book to re-read each year.
This book got quite a bit of buzz a while ago on twitter when people were talking about beta heroes. So I thought I'd check it out. I quickly feel in love with Jenny and Will. I loved that Will was so smitten with Jenny, loved that he thought the sun set and rose with her, all the while of not realizing what a great looking, good catch he was. Sure Will was a bit socially awkward, but that endeared me to him more. I loved it when he came to see a drunk Jenny and got stuck with a drunk Christian too. Loved how the 3 of them spent the rest of the night.
I hated the drama at the end of the book because I hate for anyone, even a fictional character, to have to deal with that. I loved that Will was there when Jenny needed help, loved more how Will helped in the aftermath and this couple got their HEA!
Everyone has their own way to deal with pain (mental and physical) some scream and freak out, while some bury it inside to ignore and try to forget about past hurts. William Jackson is a bury the pain type of person, he hides from society so that it can't hurt him anymore. Jenny Fitzgerald walks her dog Rosie most days past Will's purple house. She doesn't think much about her walks, but Will looks forward everyday to seeing her pass by, it makes or breaks his mood for the day. He is more then a little intense in everything he does and he has a secret... he is a 28 year old virgin. He keeps fit to the point of having a body builder physique so when he finally decides to meet Jenny on the path, she melts into a puddle because he is so hot. The dialogue is really minimalist, but sweet and shy. The sex is described in detail and once they start getting it on it is very often to the point of wondering if they are getting enough sustenance and air to survive. I totally remembered being that intensely in love when I was younger when all you needed was air and sexy time. Sigh. I feel like a 70 year old sometimes even though I'm more like half that age. Double sigh. Back to the story, this is a short novel, but really rich in detail and the couple has chemistry and a journey that deserves to be told. 150 pages and bought on All Romance site for 7.50$ which is pricy for a short story but it deserves it! 4 stars
4.5 stars. Oh this book, WOW! I am speechless, happy, sad, laughing. It was so unique finding a Man who was virgin at the age of 27 years old, a hermit, a loner, and shy even though he was falling for a woman that he watch out his window, while she takes her dog for the walk. Oh, I have to keep saying unique, how he felt towards her; A man with little words, but with one look you could read him like a book. A man who would give her his life in a split second. Jenny was a spunky kind a girl who was friendly and love her family as well as her friends. Finally Will came out of his shell and enjoy life but only with Jenny and her friends. What he went through in his younger years that is why he isolate himself. But OMG he was sexy as hell. Oh when he broke down and cry, I must say wow. He was so brave to go for what he wanted and finally had happiness in his life. And Jenny what she went through, oh broke my heart, but she finally surpassed it and deal with it, with the man of her dreams. Bravo to Ms. Allen, a truly unique, inspired book. Please keep them coming. Thank you.
3.5 RATING- I've gone back and forth on the rating but there's just something about this one that in the end made me rate it a bit higher. Maybe it's because I had zero expectations going in. It wasn't perfect but I liked it!
The hero was awkward and shy. Obsessed and possessive but in a sweet way. I pretty much adored him although I don't believe for one second there's a man alive like him anywhere. The heroine was likable and fun. She may have had a dash of whimsy running through her personality. Nothing blatant but just enough to make this whole romance believable. Well, believable in romance land, not in real life.
Like I said, it wasn't perfect but it worked for me. Low angst, instalove, steamy sex and a awkward hero. That's more than I can ask for in a book I didn't know anything about and a new to me author. I'll definitely be sampling some of her other books when I need a sweet guilty pleasure read.
There was a lot of potential here and had the characters been better developed, it could've been great. The silliness and flaky personality of the heroine didn't fit with the more serious nature of certain aspects of the storyline. I really liked Will, but I felt like his story was handled poorly. Why give him a tragic past if it's not going to be explored or treated with care? It was like an afterthought. It was just fluff with some drama for dramas sake.
Overall, I was left unsatisfied and found the characters lacking. I'm giving it a three, but it's more like 2.5 stars. Mostly b/c the writing was well done but the characters weren't fleshed out enough for me to care about them or even feel like they were more than cardboard cutouts.
It was ok. I didn't really like Jenny. She talked way too much. I get that she had to make up for Will hardly talking but come on... Do you need to fill every second with chatter? I don't think so.
I think I liked Will only because he was a virgin but HE NEVER TOLD HER! How can you love someone who never talks? I can understand being shy but I would think the more you got to know someone the more you would open up. He never really talked until the last 25% of the book! I also don' think a virgin would try for anal almost from the beginning of their sexual relationship. Or know how to have sex expertly without any practice.
