BLACK CHESS: A Novel

Rate this book
CELESTE ALEXANDER has played the game of life by the rules but must now fight the discrimination blocking her path to independence. KENNEDY VANCE is searching for love to shield her from this hostile world. BIANCA MICHAELS is not getting the career recognition she desperately needs. They’ve been living in a bubble of progressive minds, and are awakened to the reality of an intolerant world. How can they survive, strive and thrive in this oppressive society?

Life is a chess game, and the playing field is not level. Bigotry is proudly on display in America, and abuse towards marginalized people appears to be trending. Minorities and disenfranchised people play the game of life with black chess pieces, moving second in response to the actions of the white chessmen, and therefore always on defense. Most points are scored by offenses, but some of the most satisfying victories come from defenses.

BLACK CHESS: A Novel

This was an interesting book. The characters gave me life. It felt like you were talking with your girls, your man and family members. Life happens for a reason and we all face expectations or disappointments differently. We do what's best for our growth.

Celeste, Kennedy, and Bianca are the protagonists in this novel. Khalil brings new love to Celeste and her young son Robert's life. Elijah brings promise to Kennedy and her twin daughters India and China. Husband Wade & Bianca bring new life into their 🌎.

UPLIFTING! Any woman from anywhere in the world can identify with one of the three protagonists! Well-Developed characters and storyline. Although I knew nothing about the game of chess, it was interesting watching the characters move through their lives as the chess pieces. The author was able to express the debilitating stress Black people face every single day that wear down our stamina for pursuing out goals, and extinguish any hope for a better day.

I think this is the perfect book to read in 2020 with all of the chaos that is going on. Black Chess for me, is all about perspective and the importance of UNDERSTANDING different perspectives. We all have different lenses of how we view life and things we experience, and not everyone will agree with you, but that doesn't mean someone else's view or understanding of something is wrong. It is also important to have an open ear to different views or opinions because there might be something we can take away that does resonate with us. This book made me laugh and cry and it left me feeling inspired at the end. A definite must read!!!

I really wanted to love this book....to really enjoy every aspect of it. I tried but I only finished it because I felt obligated once I started. This is a book of dialogue....it didn't read like a novel. Now I do feel the dialogue that occured should be that which every black king and queen should be having on a daily basis. I was expecting a story though. And I did not get one. It was disappointing.

A must read for African-Ameican women and future black activists.

This novel advocates for black lives, black families and black love! As soon as I started reading this book could not put it down. Unfortunately, we are still living in the same oppressive political environment. BLACK CHESS reminds us of our power.

BLM Must Read!!!

I very rarely read fiction. After hearing about the strong black lives matter message, I decided to read this novel. This is a refresher course on the BLM movement that every supporter will enjoy. Plenty to debate and might even hurt your feelings. Read all the way to the end, it gets better!
