Essential ground work for the research of the ritual of the triumph. Good for an overview of where we think it might have originated from. Rather dull to read.

Superseded by Mary Beard's The Roman Triumph, which argues that we can't learn much about the origins of this ritual, and that what's important is what the Romans THOUGHT about it
