A magnificent tribute to the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest reigning monarch, and a celebration of the British royal family. Queen Elizabeth IIand the Royal Family is a stunning visual guide to the Queen, from her childhood to today.
Telling the story of the House of Windsor, including events such as the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and profiles on key people such as Princess Diana and Prince Harry, right up to the birth of William and Kate's second child, this is the complete guide to the world's most famous royal family.
Includes the complete history of the kings and queens of England and Scotland, tracing the line of succession to the throne, this is the perfect book for anyone who loves the Queen and royal family, or is interested in the history of the British monarchy.
I received this book as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend two years ago. Instead of simply flipping through and looking at the pictures - which was wonderful enough - I wanted to actually read the book and enjoy getting a sense of timelines and royal family connections. I think this is a fantastic introduction and has some stunning photos. I did learn some things along the way, but this book certainly serves more as a survey than an in-depth look at any particular part of the British royal life, even the queen herself. I would highly recommend it to any American Anglophile!
Approximately the first half of this book is an excellent overview of British history; the second half covers the reign of Queen Elizabeth up to 2015 and is also very well done. I highly recommend this book.
As a huge fan of the English Royal Family, I found this book to be full of facts about the British Monarchy dating back to the year 400. Separated into sections The British Monarchy, The House of Windsor, and Elizabeth II, it then includes sub-sections that briefly cover each ruing Monarchy from the year 400 to 1911.
There is a synopsized history of the Kings and Queens and their families including major historical events that took place during their reign. There is discussion of their coronations, weddings, and jubilees.
The descriptions and pictures of the palaces and castles lived in by these monarchs are a wonderful depiction of their individual lifestyles. Pictures of the major crown jewels, and some of the elaborate carriages used by the royals are just breathtaking.
I found this book to be a complete history all rolled up in one book. From there, the curious person, like me, can branch out to other historical books that expand more on each Monarch. It is right up-to-date as it includes the birth of both of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children.
This is delightful historical reading at its best. I hope other readers will enjoy it as much as I did.
This "Glorious Illustrated History" begins in about 400 with the first British monarchs. Each period of history is organized with a detailed timeline, followed by well organized double-page spreads full of art and photos.
Not every page is devoted to royalty; some spreads feature other aspects of history: the Bayeux Tapestry, Britain's Civil Wars, Windsor Castle, and the Great Exhibition of 1851, for example. Time slows starting with Victoria's reign, and many pages are devoted to Queen Elizabeth II's grandparents and parents. The text acknowledges that Prince Charles renewed his friendship with Camilla Parker-Bowles during his marriage to Diana.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, is credited at editorial consultant. Those familiar with that magazine will be pleased to learn that the text of this history has a much less fawning tone as well as a much greater adherence to Standard Edited English.
Students of British history will probably not learn anything new from this book. Instead, this book is perfect for anyone who wonders how the British royal family seems to be related to every other European royal family, thanks to Queen Victoria.
I checked this book out after watching The Crown and it verifies that almost all of the storyline contained in the film is accurate. This book is beautifully illustrated with photos and line drawings and presents a simple to understand look at the monarchy that will pare down the complexities of the British traditions that can be easily understood.
An easy to read book detailing the history of the British Monarchy from 400-1911 and then to the present. As the title suggests most of the book details the life of Queen Elizabeth II including her parents, children and grandchildren
