I couldn't help compare this book to a cozy mystery by Fumie Kondo, which I hold in high regard. Unfortunately, this book didn't quite measure up for me.
One issue I encountered was that the frequent explanations in footnotes could be complicated and interrupt the flow of reading. While I understand the importance of providing context for readers unfamiliar with Japanese culture, I found that these interruptions made it difficult for me to stay engaged in the story.
Overall, while this book has its merits, it fell short for me in comparison to other books in the same genre. I would recommend it to readers who are already familiar with Japanese culture and language, but for those looking for a more seamless reading experience, this may not be the best choice.
