Not quite halfway through this series and there is no way I want to stop. Each story is so good. The characters are great. This series would make a wonderful TV series. What a lot of fun that would be too.
Do yourself a huge favor and keep reading for more fun adventures
Finally!!! Rita and Ham are about to tie the knot. Rita's father has gone all out in preparation. He bought her an estate next to Visit and Jack. He had days of events prior to the big day. As friend Denny said " I've never been to a pre, pre, pre, reception ". Of course everyone is invited including Rita's old friends from her traveling days. Garden parties, scavenger hunt (with a very generous prize), masked ball, whew I'm exhausted just writing about all the activities. But this is a Violet mystery so of course there's a dead body. Will Vi and company be able to find the murderer in time? Or will Rita's long awaited big day be destroyed? Interesting characters with a great backstory. Highly recommended. (Please get a real human proof reader and not an app).
One of the reasons I like this series is that the characters are often flawed and on this, the twenty first entry in the series our Vi is rather unlikable, going a bit beyond the pale, even considering it is her terrible stepmother she’s attacking, playing rather dirty pool vis a vis suspects and rubbing it all in at the end. So, good for her! The setting is the country for Rita and Ham’s wedding weekend and, of course, there’s bound to be both a victim and a murderer on the guest list.
Some relationships are at least. I’m enjoying the shifts and changes in careers, and Smith is an interesting puzzle that gets put together in each subsequent book. There were enough loose ends here to make for continued interesting reads in subsequent sequels. I enjoyed this a lot and read it almost too quickly. It was a lovely escape, particularly while sheltering in place.
I have read and adored every book in this series, and they never let me down. Vi and her friends are perfection. The mysteries are complex and gripping, the atmosphere is bright and sparkling, but it is the characters that make these books so engaging. Come along, kick off your shoes, grab a cocktail or two and join the gang on their adventures. You'll be so glad that you did!
Sound familiar? This group just can't shake murders following them. Will the murderer be found before Rita and Ham tie the knot? A three day pre-nuptual party, beautifully renovated house, an exorbitant scavenger hunt prize and a dead body. Let's get out the chalkboard and begin. All these Violet Carlyle books haveb t heir own little twist to keep the reader interested. Enjoy!
Rita and Ham’s wedding, 4 day of festivities, murder on 3rd day, and Vi and friends jump into investigation mode. Lots of suspects, confusion, and the fun of collecting clues entertain these clever friends. Very interesting plot and revelation of culprit was well done. Wedding takes place! Lots of fun!
whew at least this time there was reasoning and evidence before the murderer was named. But maybe slow down and develop the story line more--we are losing the feel of the group of friends. The last couple of stories have been set the scene, murder off someone and then drag out the murder board. We are losing the flavor of all these people and what holds them together.
Another fun read! This series is such fun. There are weddings, babies, parties, chocolate liquors, mysteries to solve (can you figure out “who done it?” before Beth Byers tells you?), snarky dialogue, and evil doers doing evil deeds…..did I tell you there is chocolate? What more could you want in a fun read? Get it and enjoy!
Violet and friends are at Rita's mansion. It's Rita and Ham's pre wedding festivities when one of the guests is murdered. Jack and Ham are no longer working for Scotland yard but help Vi figure out which guest was the murderer. I can't wait to read the next book.
I love the Violet Carlyle mysteries. The characters are awesome and the roaring 20's backdrop is fantastic. The mysteries and the mystery board is a part that sets these mysteries apart from others.
The storyline felt a bit of a rush. As the murder took place too close to the wedding. Not the usual fill in which I enjoyed in other books in the series.
A book better than the previous one in the series. There was less of Violet's mental issue theme and the suspense was rather good, I couldn't guess whodunnit. I do wish Victor would make a come back to twinning with Voilet again, I miss the mischief.
Byers ' characters are fictional old friends who never disappoint. Her writing is smooth, captivating and keeps you hungry for more. Well done Beth. I give it give (5) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars.
As always a great mystery. With friends that love each other inspire of their quirks. I so enjoyed it. Love all the characters and their love and protection for each other.
This book had the reader thinking and although there is a confusing mistake near the middle of the book, the story was unaffected. The crew of friends were instrumental in finding the culprit, so a happy ending. I definitely recommend this book.
Once again there is murder afoot but with a whole new set of characters. The substory has Lady Eleanor being wooed and Vi's dad publicly telling her to "be quiet" which is a first!
This is a dramatic murder mystery with a lot of emotional characters and chalk boards and clever minds with twists and turns with lucky guesses.Fun and entertaining 💃🏻❣️🏺🧐
