July 1926Violet and Jack have determined upon an adventure. In a moment of sheer madness, they and their friends find room on a steamship leaving the country and board without even being certain of where they're going.
One would think that would be the oddest thing about their trip. Only soon into the trip, two women are discovered unconscious. It seems that they've both been poisoned. But whoever has poisoned them chose a different poison for each. Who is this mad poisoner and when will they strike again?
Book TWENTY-TWO in the Violet Carlyle Mysteries. Are you ready for the roaring twenties? You'll love Vi, her patient husband Jack, her indulgent twin Vic, and their friends. For fans of Carola Dunn, Jacqueline Winspear, Georgette Heyer, and Lee Strauss. A light, cozy mystery with a fun peek into life in the life of a bright young thing. No swearing, graphic scenes, or cliffhangers.
The stories are starting to get predictable and the characters unlikable. Gone is the kind philanthropic Vi, replaced with a snooty superior version. It doesn’t matter how many times the author points out Vi “was once less well off”, now she is spoilt, callous and condescending. I am not sure how much longer I can hold on to this series, which is a shame because it started out so well.
I didn't like this book!...I have read all of her books and they have been great, except this one, for me!...I wish to escape the problems that plague our world day in and day out!
“it’s possible to know you are blessed and still wish things were different.” Yes, our heroine still has her gray days but it’s still always good to check in with Violet Carlyle Wakefield and company. This time the gang has a bit of wanderlust so the do what we all dream of....pack their luggage and resolve to choose their destination once they arrive and determine which steamships are available (well, for us it’s planes, but same motivation).
So, it’s off to Norway. However they haven’t even left the harbor before Violet and Jack-the-perfect become involved with yet another mystery. There’s attempted murder on board the Annabelle! Will Violet figure it out? Of course she will! Always fun getting there, though. Currently available on Kindle Unlimited.
Love Vi and Jack and their family and friends! They embark on another group venture, including babies and nannies! These are cozy mystery events, involving brains rather than force. Plot is unusual but story is too short. This series has books that are becoming too short so not enough time to develop a more intricate, interesting plot. Conclusion is very unexpected.
Darker than previous in the series. But, even though this book is not a happy, drinking, dancing, and partying 1920s book it is quite excellent…..adorable babies, good friends, witty dialogue, gorgeous clothes, and evil doers doing evil deeds. Will you be able to figure “who dun it”? I was surprised…..not who I thought at all. I highly recommend this series. I have the next one on my “to be read” shelf already.
An impromptu trip to Norway. All aboard with Vi, Jack, friends and family. A spur of the moment whim of where to go is decided when Vi and friends spy identical twins at the port. It must be kismet, Vi and Victor are twins, Victor and his wife have twins it's decided they'll go where the twins go. No murder but lots of intrigue. Very enjoyable.
More complicated murder than usual.....so hard to guess!
A different venue. All the friends, babies and nannies. I have read all of this series and have enjoyed each one. Changing venues keeps the stories fresh but familiar. I look forward to the next one!
An ocean voyage to Norway, the whole gang including babies and nannies, more twins and a mystery to solve. Two poisons, two killers? How to prove "who done it" becomes a monumental task. Is the gang up to the task? A very good read from Beth Byers
Nearly A Murder was unique, moving, and delightful. Nothing was predictable except my favorite characters were back and an issue was addressed. It wasn't a murder mystery but a nearly murder mystery, and I loved it!
Hmm, a story without actual murder. What a different turn of events. The plot is easily followed, the characters beloved, and the story a good one. I definitely recommend this book.
I always look forward to the next Violet Carlyle mystery. I’m never too challenged and I look forward to passing the time with them after a stressful day
