I really enjoyed this book, as Young is most definitely one of my fave songwriters. I was elated to read a section on an obsession of mine 'Like a Hurricane'. Ray Meyers does a great job compiling all this early career including different bands he was with, breakdown of songs, albums, photos of tour posters and flyers, exact show dates (even late show appearances), quotes from magazines, interviews, and other musicians, and even Neil's headspace recording certain albums. It's all here. I love this quote Ray included sourced from and early Rolling Stone reviewer Paul Nelson "Like a Hurricane, with its gale-force guitar playing, is a perfect description a modern-day Gatsby caught between the tangible of transcendental love and the intangible reality of it." There does seem to be a word missed here and there in editing but that's really nothing to the overall importance of this collected material. It's rather well done. A must-have for any Neil Young fan! And so many wonderful photos!!! Highly recommended.
"Neil Young is a poet of the romance of the edge. His songs mix images of intoxication and romance, violence and escape." - part of a quote by Robert Palmer in the late 70's (included in the book).
"I've gotta get away from this day to day running around / Everybody knows / This is NOwhere" -Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse
