The enemy isn’t a monster or a demon this time. It is fear, the destroyer of worlds.
Life has never been better for Leda Pandora, the Angel of Chaos. She is married to the archangel Nero Windstriker, the love of her life. And she commands a vast territory, surrounded by her closest friends and family.
Everything is perfect—until the Earth’s magic goes haywire. Now blood has become poison to vampires, witches are being killed by their own potions, and beasts can pass right through the magic barrier that separates civilization from the plains of monsters. And with each new incident, uncertainty and fear are growing stronger in both humans and supernaturals, driving them to violence.
If Leda can’t find a way to stop these phenomena, it won’t just be the end of all magic on Earth. It will be the end of humanity itself.
Ghost’s Whisper is the ninth book in the Legion of Angels series.
Ella Summers has been writing stories for as long as she could read; she's been coming up with tall tales even longer than that. One of her early year masterpieces was a story about a pigtailed princess and her dragon sidekick. Nowadays, she still writes fantasy. She likes books with layered plots, lots of action and adventure, and a touch of romance. When she is not busy writing or spending time with her two young children, she makes the world safe by fighting robots.
Originally from the U.S., Ella currently resides in Switzerland. She is the author of Sorcery and Science, a fantasy adventure series set in a world splintered by magic and technology.
Oh no.... this was a no... I’m pretty sure our leda has turned into an idiot and then also thinks the readers are idiots. Every second line was a rehash of leda saying “so let me get this straight” and then pointing out the obvious... even other characters in the book where pointing out the obvious and getting annoyed at her.
i also wasn't a fan of the faith character, she is suppose to be this super young character yet she has this SUPER INCREDIBLE TELEPATHIC power that she has complete mastery over... also the end fight scene with her made ZERO sense.. timing wise. faith had all the time in the world to actually counter leda but doesnt. and leda doesn't even use her telepathic power pretty much. and the whole book is leading up to the battle scene so that leda can level up without venom or nectar because she needs the battle in order to level up. but her character seemed really irreverent and flippant throughout every scene, just little side banter that got annoying really quick.
also it would have made more sense is the potion she took in the last book was fertility enhancing and that she had been tricked into drinking it instead of "YOUR BABY IS SUPER SUPER SUPER CHARGED"... i dunno
i super love this series i honestly do, but i wasnt feeling this book.

➤ There was not enough Nero, but I was actually surprised by the twist at the end (and very glad for it) ➤ I am getting tired of all the manipulation of other people while h and H don't have a say in anything it seems ➤ Leda's witty banter was, as always, off the charts, I loved that. ➤ many funny scenes ➤ I'm a huge cat person, so it's not hard to figure that I absolutely loved all the scenes involving Angel. ➤ somehow I couldn't really connect with Leda's behavior in this book. She seemed off somehow and I don't mean the personal conflict or even her reaction to other people's opinion ➤ the plot was meh, also, many new characters were introduced which isn't necessarily a good thing imo
Jesus Christ, this book was a mess. So disappointing.
It was boring until the very end and even then it was predictable. Pandora was like a whole different person in book 9 and she sucked. I'd rather have read about the cat. That says it all really.
This was a good read but I am not going to lie this was not the best in the series. I am a huge fan of Ella's Legion of Angels series but unfortunately, I kinda got bored in the middle and the ending didn't surprise me. I know the following books will be great but maybe I need a new characters perspective maybe Ledia?
I head a lot of good thing about this book. The series was recommended to me many times (#cakeeaters thank you). I never picked it up, because I was scared that I won't like a well loved series. But I finally did, because I put it in a clear your tbr challenge and it was called.
I started the first book Vampire's legion last sunday, when the number was drawn and I only stoped once to finish another challenge but otherwise I read the whole series in only seven days! I really binged it.
I loved Leda and her lovely chaotic ways. She really got things done, even if the Angels thought that her ways were inappropriate. But she always thought out of the box and her actions lead to results. Nero is a good counterpart. He gives her stability, rules and has her back. But he also knows how to bend the rules properly. Which leads to creative rule bending Leda styled.
The series was so much fun. I rarely read a series that long, where I wanted to have the next book like yesterday. The audiobooks are good too. I like the narrator. Most of the time I read and listened to the series changing from ebook to audiobook and back.
Five stars recommendation!
Heads up: I'll just copy this review into all the other books of the series. Also most of the audiobooks (one to eight) were free on audible at the end of 2023. For the first four book there is one audiobook available, but it's not free on audible.
I’m torn, I love the characters of this series and was dying for this book to come out and I’m really disappointed. First of all we are 9 books in, we don’t have to read literally every other sentence about how Leda isn’t like other angels and she doesn’t play by the rules, etc, blah blah blah. We already know that and if we didn’t get it then her damn angel NAME would tell us that.
Second, if Leda thinks ONE actual fight with Nero means he doesn’t love her anymore and he doesn’t want to be with her then they aren’t mature enough to be married or for any other of the goings on in these books.
Finally, the big twist at the end was so obvious and pushes my previous issues with the book to the forefront.
This was a big miss for me. I hope the next book is better.
I was so excited to see this book, I immediately started reading it even though I wasn’t done with the book I was currently reading. I’m one of those people who can only read one book at a time. Right away, I noticed a slightly different tone to the book, and I was intrigued. I was so happy to see Pandora, Nero, Bella, etc.! I just love them all. This book began pretty much where the last one left off but Pandora is training. Speaking of, I’d love to see a series with the ones she was training with. Anyway, things progress from there with a virus turning each supernatural’s power against them, and Pandora is on the clock trying to figure out what is going on…and, boy, there is so much going on. The end was a true surprise, and I loved it! I can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Highly recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This series had its heyday around book 6 or 7 I think...for some reason, the last couple of books have really missed the mark for me, and I think it might be due to some underediting. There are still some scenes I like a lot, but there are so many others that seem draggy and really contribute little to the plot. Leda has always been the sassy, sarcastic heroine but for better or worse, she reads as a little too over the top now. A character can absolutely be chaotic without seeming to be childlike or dumbed down, you know? I find myself speed reading through some sections because I'm bored, and that's never a good sign.
I found this particular installment to be really weak, especially because I DETEST the commonly used trope of "everyone lie to the main character but it'll be resolved quickly in the end with some explanation of why everyone had to lie to her!" What I thought was conflict that would maybe lead to some growth and further depth re: her relationship with Nero - which frankly was awesome at the beginning but has grown kind of stale and his character especially has become more of a caricature that's just the stock love interest in the background - turned out to be some lame ruse that wasn't even adequately explained. Almost all of the dialogue between her and Nero sounds so fake and it's like they're incapable of holding an actual conversation anymore outside of lame suggestive banter. There's only so many times they can do the *wink wink* sexual innuendos without just seeming lame.
I hope Summers regains her mojo and maybe does some tighter revisions/editing. The last few plotlines for the books have felt weak and just not as engaging as before. I suspect she'll start losing some readers if the quality of the writing continues to dip. All the characters I had grown to love and admire seem like bad fanfic versions of themselves.
The whole book felt like an episode of Saturday Night Live or something. Too many snarky comments and banter during incredibly important/dangerous events. Like they have the time to stand around and try to beat the others on who's the snarkiest or wittiest. I couldn't take it anymore. I felt like I was watching a sitcom or something.
Plus, I couldn't get over Leda being so childish and not going to Nero to fix things even knowing she's at fault. And I got really tired of her attitude towards everyone. It's like she never grew up over the last 8 books. And I don't think being the Angel of Chaos was a compliment. At least not something she should aspire to all the time.
I loved this series a lot. And I'm disappointed with how it's unraveling. Unfortunately, I have outgrown Leda and her antics. If I had to roll my eyes one more time... Anyway, it might be someone else's cup of tea. It certainly isn't mine anymore.
The enemy isn’t a monster or a demon this time... It is fear, the destroyer of worlds...
When I immediately received this book in the morning, I cracked open this book and started reading and I was done in a matter of hours - that is how consuming and addictive this story and world and characters are.
Oh wow...the manipulation, deception and cunningness that happens in the story. I love watching how it all unfolded and wow the stuff that happens in this book? You better hold on to your seat because some answers are coming your way! That end! Omg so excited for the next book...it's not out yet but I'm already drooling for it.
Full of gods, powers, action, deception, adventure, angels, secrecy, demigods, surprises, truths, danger, manipulation, trust and love.
Perfect for readers of paranormal romance/urban fantasy.
I wasn’t a fan of this book. I found the plot line a bit confusing and quite blah. Maybe the storyline has gone stale.
**big spoilers** I didn’t like how the hero and heroine weren’t talking to each other for a big part of the book. The heroine agonised over it, but then it turned out to be fake. Annoying. I also didn’t enjoy the feeling that the hero and heroine were and are being expertly manipulated by people that are smarter and more powerful than they are, and therefore have no control over their own actions and their future.
I don't want to rate this book because I really did not enjoy it and I'm tempted to leave an awful review. However, it was actually better written than previous books and the plot wasn't terrible. It's just my person feelings that made me hate it.
I just hated the plot itself and the emotions it evoked. I'm tired of reading about the manipulation and secrecy from these patronizing "superior" beings. Leda trying to hold together her brand new marriage and feeling culpable for a fight that she's not really at fault for. The higher than thou gods forcing and manipulating everyone to do their will. A virus, essentially, spreading that causes people to die when they use their powers on infected people. Masses of people protesting, spreading hate and the media magnifying all that malice and destruction for their own benefit.
When I started the book, my biggest issue was not remembering what had happened in the previous books. It's been a while since I read the last one. But, perhaps, I would've been better off not remembering.

Is it strange that a cat is my favorite in this series?
After they had their wedding, Leda and Nero face the next problem. A curse is affecting the supernatural population, which makes magic backfire. Out of fear, riots, etc. start. On top of it all, Nero is miffed that Leda decided not to have a child without consulting him first. Therefore, Leda is mostly on her own.
This novel was somewhat tricky to get into. The author published a few short stories and novellas in between. If you haven’ read them, the way I didn’t, then it will be grating how they are referred to regularly.
Also, the relationship troubles between Nero and Leda, so shortly after the wedding was annoying. In tv series, there is something called the Moonlighting problem. Because this 80s series’ ratings tanked after the two main characters got together, all screenwriters seem to think that the series will lose its viewers as soon as the sexual tension between the main characters is resolved. Of course, that is tripe as Moonlighting lost its viewers because the general quality of the show suffered. Some of it due to Bruce Willis and Cybill Sheperd hating each other and the authors being forced to come up with storylines that wouldn’t necessitate the two being on set together. This break between Leda and Nero felt too much like this.
Approximately a third into the book, the pace finally picks up, and the story follows its usual tropes and becomes more enjoyable. I would have wished for more humor aside Angel’s antics.
As ever a brilliant story! I can’t get enough Leda and Nero (although, if I had one complaint it would be that there wasn’t enough Nero in this book). I enjoyed all the new characters and that ending - Wow! Hope the next book isn’t too far away. Highly recommend.
For pretty much the entire length of this novel I thought it was the last one, and I was very, very confused. Finally I realized it’s another installment, but the epic ending I was expecting - which made me feel better. Great series, decent addition.
I have followed this series for a while and always eagerly anticipate the release of the next book. I've re-read these books many, many times and I am a fan. However, I feel like the last two books have not fully engaged me as a reader / pulled me into the LoA world.
Firstly, Leda's choice not to tell Nero about the potion she took to prevent pregnancy. Fair enough, in the moment, when Leda and Nero were separated to control the fever, Leda may not have had the option to notify Nero about the potion. However, she didn't tell him later either e.g. before consummating their marriage. There was a lot of emphasis on her shame in this book and her fear about what Nero would think, yet there was no mention of her shame or consideration of Nero's feelings earlier in the series.
Next, the logistics of the pregnancy. Right at the end of this novel, it is revealed that Leda is pregnant, despite the potion, because she is a special kind of angel and her child is special and made from the love of Leda and Nero's union (which is why Nerissa couldn't pick up the pregnancy via her tests). Honestly, this seemed so far-fetched and out of the blue - I feel like there needed to be more hints that this was a possibility earlier in the novel / series, especially when this defies science in many ways. I know this book falls in the fantasy genre and the whole existence of nectar / venom / angels etc. is fictional, but for a lot of the series, the "science" in the books has been logical (even if it doesn't match real life). For me, the ending seemed rushed - as if changed last minute. With the exception of smelling the cookies, I got no overwhelming indication of pregnancy, but at the end, Leda and Nero can "feel" their child in Leda's womb?
Next, the nature of Leda and Nero's argument. Nero was angry that Leda made the executive decision to prevent pregnancy, or so it seemed. It is later revealed that this is all just a ploy to sort out the Faith problem. Other than a few moments of almost intimacy between Leda and Nero, it was very difficult to determine that Nero's behaviour was an act, which made the reveal about his true feelings, in agreement with Leda, a bit unbelievable. Obviously, Leda was so caught up in her feelings and guilt, this didn't necessarily make her the most observant or critical character but, for me, I felt there was too much that happened / was revealed towards the end of the book to tie up things that happened earlier on / things that Leda had no knowledge of . I also think it would have been more effective and engaging for Nero, despite his ultimate agreement with Leda, to still be upset about her decision-making. But, in the end, he says he is in full agreement and understands Leda's choice; I found this quite dismissive of the very valid feelings of betrayal (which he seemingly fabricated) and it made Leda's guilt and shame a bit redundant.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the rest of the novel.

Another solid entry in the Legion of Angels series, although admittedly not one of my favorites. I love the relationship between Leda and Nero, and having a fake fight between them for half the book that one of them didn’t know was fake, even if it was for that individual’s protection, I found annoying. I also love Leda’s ingenuity and corresponding chaos, especially in the face of all the other rule-following angels, but unfortunately didn’t see as much as it in this book, especially with the villain towards the end. Great ending to the book, though, which has me very excited for the next installment in the series. 3.5 stars.
There's no question that the book has the ability to trap you and that once you start reading it becomes hard to stop, but as the series advance and we don't really get many answers and we just see how the characters are like pieces on a game beign played by others, I'm becoming a little tired. Of course, they keep beating the odds and so far they have managed to get ahead, but it seems like everything they do it's being controlled by outside forces, and for every win, it seems they advance someone else's agenda. I like the setting and the characters, but I'm getting a little tired, I hope the ending of the series is near.
Not like the other books. There was a lot of chaos until the end with a major cliffhanger. The way Nero just walked away from the h was unrealistic and there was hardly any sweet moments. The beginning was awesome then the book turned redundant from bad things happening over n over. This was a let down on this series. The last book was awesome but this one turned into too much angst. What is the ghost whisper anyway since it didn't get explained. I am so annoyed how this book lost the momentum. Just a filler I guess.
I like this series the love interests is what interests me the most with Nero and leda but Nero was hardly in this book.I love his parents to his dad is so fun his mum is not in it much you would think she would show up a lot to see Nero after 200 years? With all the magic why can they not ward there homes from unwanted guess?
Leda is still training with the God's Army and only after working the gala does she get released to go back to Purgatory, her role of Angel of the Plain of Monsters, and Nero. Once back Leda has to undergo a test to see if she's pregnant and when the truth of what she did comes out to Nero, he storms out and they struggle to reconnect. Add in the magical mishaps that are happening all over the US causing people to die and Leda is not having the best of times. There's also the little job of getting the demons to work with the Gods to stop the guardians from destroying earth.
It's been a while since I read the previous books in this series and I felt like I'd forgotten quite a bit like Leda training with the Gods Army. I don't remember much of that from the last book.
I do love Leda and Nero, though. They've been through a lot as a couple and I love reading them. Nero is exactly what you'd expect an angel to be like: very proper in everything. And then Leda - she's known as the Angel of Chaos for a reason! She's witty and thinks on her feet. They've always been opposites but have always been drawn to each other. It's brilliant.
I did feel the plot of this one was a little complicated but at the same time rather cleverly thought out. I'm not going to spoil it by saying anything other than what I've already mentioned in my review and description above.
Just that the end bit has blown everything else out of the water. I can't help wondering what's going to happen next with that little revelation out in the world.
This was good, but for me personally it wasn't quite as enjoyable as the rest have been in this series.
I've always been a big fan of Leda, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed in her behavior and actions (or lack of) when it came to the 'argument' she had with Nero. While she had a self-realization that she was in the wrong, she still made no effort to make the first move and apologize or anything. Not sure how I felt about some of the plot points and twists, and who was behind things. All in all it was good, just not quite up to par of the other books in this series. But that's just my opinion. Still looking forward to this series being closed out and finding how things end.
