About the author

Premendra Mitra (Bangla: প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্র) was a renowned Bengali poet, novelist, short story writer and film director. He was also an author of Bengali science fiction and thrillers.

His short stories were well-structured and innovative, and encompassed the diverse to the divergent in urban Indian society. The themes of poverty, degradation, caste, the intermittent conflict between religion and rationality and themes of the rural-urban divide are a thematically occurring refrain in much of his work. He experimented with the stylistic nuances of Bengali prose and tried to offer alternative linguistic parameters to the high-class elite prosaic Bengali language. It was basically an effort to make the Bengali literature free from softness, excessive romance and use of old style of writing which were prevalent in older writings.

ঘনাদা নিয়ে আমার অভিজ্ঞতা অম্ল-মধুর। তার সাথে প্রথম সাক্ষাত খুব একটা সুখকর ছিল, এটা বললে মিথ্যাচার হবে বৈকি। আসলে ঘনাদা যখন প্রথম পড়তে শুরু করি, তখন আমার যে এক্সপেক্টেশনটুকু ছিল, সেটা না মেলার কারণেই মূলত হতাশ হয়েছিলাম। শুধু হিউমর খুঁজছিলাম, টেনিদার মতন। কিন্তু ঘনাদা মানেই কেবল হাস্যরস নয়। হ্যাঁ, প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্রের বর্ণনায় স্বভাবজাত কৌতুকভাব আছে, তবে সেটা গল্পের মূল এলিমেন্ট নয়। ঘনাদার গল্পগুলোকে কল্পবিজ্ঞান, অ্যাডভঞ্চার ঘরানাতেই ফেলবো আমি। এই বইটার প্রতিটা গল্পই ছিল অনন্য। বিশেষ করে হাঁস, দাত আর সুতো তো যাকে বলে একদম সিক্সার। ভারি বই পড়ার ফাঁকে কিংবা হালকা মেজাজে পড়ার জন্যে আদর্শ জিনিস।

Science Fiction coupled with heart racing adventure stories are my drug and I could never have been happier with this collection, even though the stories are high stakes adventure tales on the lines of Tintin and Indiana Jones it never looses it's grasp of logic and rationality while spinning it's tales.

Premendra Mitra through this collection feels like a love child of Lucas, Verne and Hergé which just came out of a literary three way. And every inch of this small book is a complete page turner.
