Rule #5 - Never wear a red dress after midnight.

Shades of Cinderella with a Vampire Prince? Yes, please.

~*~

Sweet and innocent good girl Vanessa Singer wants nothing more than to secretly code computer apps and maybe eventually fall in love (passionately and with plenty of steam, thank you). Unfortunately, she wound up with a wicked stepmother (who may be an actual devil wearing Prada) who is determined to keep her locked up in the family bed and breakfast, endlessly cleaning and catering to the guests every needs.

Except one guest wants to go out dancing, and really, she’s not super into the idea at first but it sounds pretty fun, and oh my God the red dress and black leather heels the girl lets her borrow are gorgeous, so—

Her stepmother did say she was supposed to do anything to make sure the guests are happy, right?

Vanessa’s secret night on the town leads to a fateful meeting with a beautiful and intimidating vampire with dark desires and a dominating need to claim her as his own.

Except it’s almost midnight…

Steamydale, lol!

A short, totally implausible, but fun read, where an inexperienced local girl finally learns why lore tells that it is wrong to wear red after midnight. Enjoyable.

More secrets about Steamydale are its rules are revealed. Steamydale Rule #5: Never wear a red dress after midnight.
This story has some similarities to the Cinderella tale. Evil stepmother brought in by well-meaning and seemingly weak father. Stepmom goes by the name of Evella, which is kind of stereotypical. Vanessa is not typical of Cinderella. She is very smart, practicing coding on the side while tending her father's bed and breakfast and taking classes at Steamydale University. Her adventure starts when she is sent out with a guest her age to show the girl, Lexi, Steamydale's nightlife. Lexi dresses Vanessa in a short red dress and they go to the local bar, The Wild Rose.
Damon Sanguinar, a local vampire, has come to the Wild Rose to enjoy a drink(not that kind) before tackling a coding problem with a project he is working on for his company, CrypTech.
After saving Vanessa from a fall, the two start talking. Once Damon finds out that Vanessa is as much a coding nerd as he is, the relationship between the two hits a jumpstart.
Vanessa's self talk throughout the story is funny and endearing. I got the sense that she was not weak so much as she wanted to please those around her. I was waiting to see what would be important enough for her to stand up to her stepmother and other people's definition of who she was. I kind of got the feeling that her thinking of herself and her situation was starting to change before Lexi pushed her out of the door of the B&B.
This tale's antagonist is rule number five of Steamydale's Rules and its consequences. The remedy, of course, leads to some very steamy scenes.
I liked this loose take on the Cinderella tale. As with the previous books, the conversational language and dual viewpoints give added depth to the story. I really like the author's mix of small-town vibe with touches of the supernatural.
Looking forward to more visits to Steamydale.

Sweet and innocent computer nerd Vanessa Singer wants nothing more than to secretly code computer apps and one day fall in love. But her wicked stepmother, Evella, wants to use her in the bed and breakfast to clean up and cater to the guests needs.

But then the daughter of a guest, Lexi, wants Vanessa to accompany her to a club for dancing, and that potentially will break Rule #5 - Never wear a red dress after midnight. Vanessa rationalizes that she was told to keep the guests happy, and if Lexi wants to dance, then she has little choice in the matter. And the borrowed halter-style red dress is so lovely!

They go to the Wild Rose, the only bar in the small town, and jukebox provides the music to dance. But in the high heels, Vanessa stumbles and would have fallen face first except for the man in the suit who caught her waist and pulled her against himself. Grey reluctantly greeted Damon Sanguinar, a vampire. Damon orders a drink and buys one for Vanessa – who actually orders milk! But watching her lick the white mustache off her top lip made him squirm! When she pulled out her laptop and showed him her code she had been working on, she definitely impressed the geek in him! He even recognized it as the map now in use at the Infinity Gardens! But midnight is approaching, and something horrible happens at midnight – but there is a loophole if Damon can enact it in the minutes remaining. Is Vanessa going to be safe? Is she going to be willing to participate in this rather extreme “loophole”? Or will she just sincerely regret going out tonight with Lexi and wearing that red dress?

Vanessa is a very shy girl, focused on her programming when she can hide from her stepmother. The only reason she goes out to the bar is as part of her duties to entertain the young woman staying at her family's B&B, but what started as a reluctant night out turns into much more. I liked the chemistry between Vanessa and Damon. As much as he's a bit blunt in his desires, he really doesn't push her too much, but coaxes her a bit. Even though the story's timeline is very quick, it worked well with the story. I think there was even a good development of Vanessa in the story. Definitely made this one of my favorites in the series.
The whole red dress rule was a bit ridiculous, but that is part of the humor when it come to the Steamydale stories. I'm waiting to see if any of Damon's siblings get a story in the series, I think those could be amusing.

I'm not sure there was really enough "Cinderella" to the story for me (I think in part because the story was really short). Yes, there is an evil stepmother and she bosses Vanessa around as a servant, but it was lacking something for me to give it a real tie to the fairytale.

This one is a cute instalove novella. Short and sweet, complete with an evil stepmother named Evella and a charming vampire named Damon.

Maybe this is just me but every time I encounter a hero named Damon, vampire or not, I can’t help but picture Ian Somerholder (aka Damon Salvatore). I’m not even sure if she described him in the book, he was insta-Damon Salvatore for me. He also wears a daylight ring and has the same squinty eye compulsion ability so I couldn’t picture him shy other way if I tried.

The world building is a bit vague but it is a novella. I gather future stories in this series will expand upon the ‘rules’ of Steamydale.

I would have liked some more clarity on the blood cataclysm thing and if Vanessa will be immortal even if she’s not a vampire.

This was quite a strange read, initially the heroine came across so young I thought I'd accidentally bought a YA romance which I have zero interest in. Then it abruptly veers into kink which was far more interesting, but it really felt like two different books smushed together. I wanted to know far more about the blood cataclysm and lore of the town than the Evil Stepmother (who was a weird villain and took up far too much room in a novella this short.)
Also, the constant trailing off of thoughts was annoying and again made the heroine seem very young. The 'knocked up' part almost seemed like an afterthought which was disappointing, given what a human carrying a baby vampire could entail, and what the baby would be (and the title of the book!)

This book is a super fast read but super enjoyable. I loved it. Old wives tales that should still be listened too. Vampires. Evil stepmothers. And so much more. This book was like Cinderella but so much better. This book was HOT. I honestly can’t wait to read the rest in the series. Easy to follow along with. Written wonderfully so that the words just flow. I absolutely loved Vanessa. Intelligent, shy, unsure of herself. Damon who is cocky, nerdy, but super sweet and romantic. Christian, Damon’s brother, stickler for rules, apprehensive, and seemed to be hurt and lost. I’d love a sequel about him.

A must read!!

I love the Steamydale books. This book dealt with a vampire who was attracted to a genius computer geek who was also a virgin. He wanted to take it slowly getting to know her but was rushed into getting intimate with her because of the thing's that happened in Steamydale having to do with the paranormals in town. The story was interesting and had me hooked from he very beginning. The story contained some dirty erotic content also. It was longer than the other stories I've read about Steamydale. This was a great little story.

Damon and Vanessa’s story is another great addition to the Sexy Stories from Steamydale series. Vanessa want nothing more than to fall in love, but thanks to her wicked stepmother that will never be possible. When a turn of events takes her out of the bed and breakfast and to a bar dancing for the evening, she meets Damon. Damon, a vampire, is sweet, sexy, and wants Vanessa for his own. I loved Damon and Vanessa and they incredible chemistry together. I loved everything about this story and definitely recommend it.

This is the strangest vampire story I have ever read. Not sure if I like it. Vanessa is a naive and gullible girl who would do anything to get away from her stepmother. I don't like the way she thinks and how she stammers because she's unsure of herself and how she leaves her train of thought unthought. She says um too much and she's not afraid or curious about Damon's vampirism. Damon is too much of a playboy and is instantly smitten be Vanessa which makes his intentions questionable. Plus I'm not really into the sex bondage thing. It was a little too much. The ending was terrible and too short. Not much to really love.

Vanessa's dad remarried to a witch. Not really, but just replace w for b and you get the idea. Vanessa's dad owns a B&B and the wicked stepmother insists that Vanesssa do everything. Vanessa's talent is coding but she must keep her laptop a secret from the witch as she would take it off her. One night, Vanessa goes out with one of the guests who is around her age, and the guest lends her a red dress. While Vanessa is out she meets the gorgeous Damon, who just so happens to be a vampire. What a fun read this was. I loved it, and the thoughts of Vanessa were so funny at times.

Two computer programming nerds, one a vampire and one a shy insecure innocent young lady. She has to deal with a wicked stepmother and a subservient father who wants to keep the peace. He's really a nice guy. When a guest talks her into taking a trip on the wild side, she never imagined how it would end up. Nothing dark or mysterious. It is straight up charming romance with a curse on the side. A fun read. The ending I feel felt incomplete and I wish there was more. But I hope to look forward to this author's stories from Steamydale.

Right up my Steamy street

This is one of those books that you should check the reviews on because based on the cover and title I wasn't convinced I would like the book. But this was a definitely don't judge a book by its cover moment. After reading some reviews I bought the book and I was happily impressed. Obviously a spin from fairytales with its own take on them, the characters were interesting and the story flowed perfectly. I'm definitely left wanting more from this series.

An Okay Read

This short story is definitely a interesting and creative take on human and vampire coupling. The author basically rewrote the entire makeup of the vampire from scratch. Then added a "Cinderella" aspect to the story. I think it could have been a really enthralling story, if it was written without so much uncertain inner monologue in it. The female main character is a confusing personality at best. Overall it's an okay read for fans of Supernatural Romance (Specifically Vampire), and Fantasy Fiction stories.

Super hot sexy read! Vanessa meets Damon at a bar and it’s insta-love and insta-lust! Damon tells Vanessa that he’s a vampire and shows her all his special tricks. This leads to some extremely sexy and steamy scenes that will melt your panties! Add in a new friend and some crazy family members, and you’ve got a story that will keep you turning the pages from start to finish!

A spin on a Cinderella type of story with Vanessa looking to reach out and become her own person after being suppressed and Lorded over by the Evella, 'the evil stepmonster', whilst Damon the enigmatic, genius, expectedly handsome Vampire seeks to hold his own within his family. The character development, though fast covered the necessities in depicting who the heroes and villains are throughout the story. With some chance ties to lore from a favourite TV series or two, it is possible to fill in information gaps for any who have embraced this generation's love of Vampire romance and love stories.
The description of scenery and buildings makes it possible to imagine being there, walking with the characters and keeping pace with their journey.
There was a certain point though, sometime around midnight, that everything just sort of took off into a rush. Understandably, there was a certain degree of necessity, but from that point, the story seemed to be rushed and then quickly concluded. I was ready to take the next step on the journey with Vanessa and Damon but suddenly found myself at a rather large cliff.
Though the end did throw me a bit, I definitely can say that I appreciated the development and presentation of the main characters, their interactions and the gist of the story overall.
I recommend for anyone looking to have a quick read with a bit of spice, some steam and an appreciation that nerds can find love out there too.

This was a fun romp with Vanessa and Damon. At first I wasn't sure I would grow to like Vsnessa but as she seemed to blossom into herself I did just that. I'm not good with passive characters that allow themselves to be constantly bullied or abused. I was so glad to see it was not only part of what molded a strong, fierce character. I also loved that her dad finally grew a pair!

Would love to read more!

Knocked Up by the Vampire

This quick read was an easy, cute story of a college student and her interaction with a very rich computer guy who happens to be a vampire. Vanessa is verbally abused and used at home by her step-mother who demands she help out with everything in the bed and breakfast her dad owns. Until she meets Damon the vampire and changes her whole life for the good.

I was looking for a quick read to finish out my night and this one looked and sounded perfect. However, I've only made it to chapter 9 and can't keep reading. The FMC narration is almost child like, definitely not what I was expecting for a "sexy story". And the overall writing appears as though it's a first book written by a young high schooler.
However, if you're just looking for something with little sustenance to just waste time, this could be okay for that.

The beginning was rough! As another reviewer mentioned, the heroine came off as super young in the beginning. Also, the use of "you know?" irritated me. I don't like it when characters talk to me, lol. No "you" when I'm reading. Talk to each other, not me! Other than some annoyances, I actually really liked this quick and sexy story. Plan to read more from the author.

This was good

I got this yesterday as a freebie and it's definitely not in my usual genre, which is contemporary romcom/erotica. I thoroughly enjoyed this into to this new to me author and her world.
It's got enough of all of the elements that I normally look for in a story without any ridiculousness. I will be working through the series.

Steamydale is really steamy

I loved this. It’s a fun, short read, with interesting characters, and a town with some quirky but very important “rules” so little things like gateways to hell don’t open. This is the first in the series. I also read the demon story and can’t wait to read the rest!
