Always Chasing 'Em: Short Mysteries

Rate this book
In this collection of short stories, Ludas and Quatrano have selected some of their personal favorites as well as some award-winning short mysteries from years gone by. Some of these were published but are no longer in print, and so, readers of D. K. Ludas and N. L. Quatrano will enjoy this glimpse into the authors' short story beginnings. The title comes from their love of the original X Files television series. Mulder and Scully were always chasing aliens as well as strange conspirators, but Ludas and Quatrano's characters are always chasing the bad guys - and gals. These two are the authors of the Amazing Grace Trucking Company books, a southern women's inspirational fiction series published by Two Stone Lions Press. Their first book, MERCIFUL BLESSINGS, won the Royal Palm Literary Awards and was a finalist in the Indie Book Awards.

Murder She Wrote Meets The Twilight Zone...

This collection of award-winning short stories by Nancy Quatrano and Daria Ludas have been published elsewhere and are now out of print, but for some of them, they make their publishing debut in this fine compilation.

Always Chasing 'Em: Short Mysteries is a fine collection of short stories. Its’ a wonderfully written and richly descriptive book with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The authors paint a series of engaging, witty and sometimes spooky moments in a very vivid and convincing way.

I enjoyed the stories, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists along the way that I didn’t see coming, and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of a particular story in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a well written short story collection with perfect pacing.

The contrast between tone and content is a characteristic talent of only a few authors. Quatrano and Ludas pay as much attention to their sentences as they do their plots, shifting or consolidating meaning with the use of a single word. Their writing is impeccably honed, full of juxtapositions and qualifications that help to create the perfect mysterious atmosphere.

I’ll be looking forward to reading more from these authors in the future. Recommended reading and a well-deserved five stars from me.
