Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.

The second installment of The Sullivan Gray series was just as good as the last one. Great characters, good action scenes, twists and turns, and lots of mysteries leading to the next book in the series. It was definitely quite the ride!

It’s been a couple of years since the first book. Sully and Dez are living normal lives. You know, if seeing ghosts of murdered people is normal or dealing with a brother who sees ghosts of murdered people is normal, then Sully and Dez are pretty normal. Sully gets a visit from a ghost who has some serious powers, especially the power of possession. Add to this disturbing element the fact that someone has broken into Sully’s place of work twice, killing his work friend, and Sully certainly is having a difficult time. He and Dez are on the hunt for a murderer while a detective is after Sully for the murder. It’s all very exciting and full of action.

I really enjoyed this mystery. While I was able to guess everything that eventually happened, I was still really entertained. I love the relationship between Sully and Dez. I love the Braddock family, who we finally get to see more of in this one. Bulldog and Betty are awesome secondary characters. I thought the mystery was building nicely. I wish it hadn’t been a cliffhanger but there’s a lot going on so I get it. I didn’t love how many times people stated that Sully wasn’t a full family member because he was just a foster kid. It got old fast and I have a hard time believing that many people don’t understand a bond that can occur between foster parents and kids. It just felt a bit forced and I hope she takes it out of future books. Honestly, that was the only negative. Everything else was really entertaining. Highly recommend this one but I do suggest reading the books in order.

I like the characters, but I hate what is happening to them. Especially the ending. WTH?!

I'm not going to continue with the series because I can't handle all this shit.

This was great, well written, incredibly suspensefull book, and even better than the fist one. I had to mention that because I had very high expectations after reading the first one and the author not only fulfilled my expectations but surpassed them.
The story seemingly starts as a new chapter in the characters' lives, and then ties in beautifully with all the details the author set out in the previous book. Towards the end, the suspense is absolutely unbearable, not because it is unforeseeable what might happen, but because of the way the sequence of events bring the conclusion to this story. The author brilliantly executed her idea and concluded with an incredibly logical, albeit frustrating ending, which only makes a reader scream for the next book.
I find it incredible how the author incorporated the issues of miscarriage of justice, and  injustice caused by greed for money and information, together with family, love and loyalty, which in this case barely persevere, but there is hope in what future might bring.
The characters, primarily Sully and his adopted brother Dez, face many challenges, mysteries, and trials, which nearly break them. The amount of grief, loss, and unfairness is staggering. The author could not have done a better job in portraying all these in the most realistic and believable way possible. This book is absolutely amazing, as is the whole concept of the series, and I can't wait to read more. This author is a rare find and I could not be more grateful for encountering her books.
The books should be read in order, which is: Black Candle (The Sullivan Gray Series Book 1), Harbinger (The Sullivan Gray Series Book 2), and The Dule Tree (The Sullivan Gray Series Book 3), coming son.

Even better than the first book

This series about a man who sees the dead, but only the ones who experienced a tragic end, is captivating and wholly engrossing. Book 2 has twisted s and turns you will not see coming

Rating - 3.5 Stars.

I liked this book much more than Book 1 because of the mystery behind the ghost haunting Sully but ultimately the ending let me down because it didn't resolve anything and I felt so bad after all the built up tension throughout the book we don't get a proper ending but a cliffhanger. I really like Dez and Sully as brothers and their unbreakable bond but Sully can sometimes get on my nerves with his stupidity and recklessness. Hoping Book 3 will be better than Book 2 and we get some closure regarding the mystery of Lockwood Asylum.

Harbinger, the second book in the Sullivan Gray series, has surpassed my expectations. This paranormal gem has Sully in deep trouble. His boss is murdered and a detective who hates his adoptive family is only looking at him as the prime suspect. It doesn’t help that he is now experiencing black outs and is sometimes being possessed by a very scary ghost. With a solid storyline and great characters, this is another hit in this wonderful series. The only “ick” is the ending which leaves you wanting more. I will definitely have to read the next book in this incredible series.

Oh my God! If the first book was good, this was even better.

The last half is simply to stop the heart, the tension is so thick that you must stop to catch your breath.

The story begins about two years later than Black Candle, and we meet again with some of the characters we know from it. Sully and Dez face so many difficulties together, so much fear and pain, and yet their connection continues to shine.

And the story is thrilling! There is a ghost that keeps popping up and, for some reason, Sully is truly terrified of him. The first time he appears, there is an attempt to break-in in the pub where Sully works and lives. Sully interrupts the intruder, but the man manages to escape.

But the next day the same man? other? is there, with a shotgun, and kills Betty, the pub manager and Sully's friend.

From then on we learn many things in quick succession: it is possible that Betty was not killed accidentally, she had in her possession a blue thumb drive that contains something that someone wants badly; his son has just been released from prison, where he was sent by child pornography possession's charges, although he continues to say that he was framed; Uncle Lowel has been providing Sully with sleeping pills; and the police thinks Sully killed Betty.

The plot develops seamlessly, the tension keeps growing and you simply can't stop reading.

And the end, oh, the end will make you scream in frustration, not because it's illogical or even something you would not expect from Sully, but because it's exactly what he would do, and God!

I need the next book. Now!

Welp, I'm done with this series. It was a good book, right up until the end. Then it just...stopped... Not end, stopped. Right in the middle of everything. I understand the concept of a cliffhanger, but this is ridiculous! And I hated it. What's more, the author acknowledged that the book just stopped in an "Author's Note" and by including the chapter of the next book, which picks up where this one left off as if it were the next chapter...which it should have been. No thanks, I'm done. Only 3 stars due to the crap ending.

The only real issue I have is that this is a cliffhanger...and it isn't enough for me to say you should pass it by. I did want to slap Sully several times for wanting to rush out & do stupid things to "help" the ghosts. If he had had any patience at all, he wouldn't have gotten into so many messes. (Had to keep reminding myself that he wasn't any older than 21-22 & foolishness was to be expected.) And during his interrogation by an investigator who had a personal bias against his family - anybody with half a brain would have found an attorney.

Other than that, it was a good read & I'm moving immediately to #3 in the series.

This is the second of the Sullivan Gray series. The Black Fox, the bar where Sully works and lives above is broken into one night. Nothing is stolen but Betty, the managers, office is ransacked looking for something. It is unfound and the next night, again an attempted break in and this time, Betty is shot and killed. No Sully is drawn into a murder, he may be accused of, and a very strong ghost has the ability to possess him. With dangers within his family, a devastating loss, and a commitment into a psychiatric facility, Sully might be facing his biggest threat yet. This one ends on a cliffhanger forewarning, so make sure you have the next in the series available.

This was a good story that kept me turning the pages. The characters are well-drawn and the protagonist has depth and complexity. While some readers complain that the ending was a cliffhanger, I can't completely agree. Allowing Sully to escape forced treatment and institutionalization resolved a major storyline. Leaving two murders unresolved and the villain still at large leads to the next books in the series. But I do agree that the reader is left with a hollow feeling at the end. Perhaps a few more pages, putting Sully in a more tenable position would have allowed the reader to exhale.

Format: audiobook
Narrator: John Downey

I really enjoyed book one and book two didn’t disappoint either.
Again the bond between the brothers at times had me emotional and on the brink of tears, how much can they endure before they break? The secrets and lies that Sully is uncovering could destroy not just himself but those he loves.

I’m totally invested in how things are going to play out and I can’t wait for karma to hit those that need it, book three here I come.

Another excellent job by the narrator.

Good series

I am enjoying this new series. It is a blend of the paranormal, mystery, and family relationships. I like the way Sully is able to help others right the wrongs done to victims and help them pass whole into the afterlife. At times the story drags and appears disjointed. This particular story ends in a cliffhanger. I prefer for each story to have a logical conclusion. I will continue with the series to see if the next book will tie things together for me.

After the amazing start to the series, book 2 definitely didn’t disappoint. The storyline has definitely ramped up in terms of emotions and what’s at stake which Heather manages to do beautifully. Yet again the bond between the brothers and side characters makes you feel part of the family/ story and after that ending I had to immediately read the next! Yet again perfect, all the stars - highly recommend!

Great storyline

This author has the magic to tell the story in such a way that it flows. The characters are created and believable. Another big plus is that it evoked feelings of happy, love , sadness. frustration , fear and grief. When a book makes you cry you know the author cares about you Experiencing the story.

An episode not a story

Although a five star tale I almost gave it three. It rates three as there is no resolution, it rates five if you are prepared to buy the rest.
The paranormal universe is compelling, the characterisation deep and the story seemed to be going somewhere interesting but as the author chose to use it as bait, who knows.
Not happy HP.

I think that I have a new favourite author. H.P. Bayne is now at the top of my list.
Harbinger is a fast, well written book. Believable in it's context with a well thought out story line that moves quickly.
I have read 3 books to date and although read out of order, I was quickly brought into the books and found that I could associate with the sibling rivalry and backing each other up.
Great story, I can definitely recommend!

I loved the first one of this series but this one was very disappointing to me. I think the writting is first rate and I grew to care about the characters, that is why I only knocked one star off. The ending was not a resolution and was extremely awful. I am afraid this series is no longer what I would consider relaxing reading.

Intense, hats the word for Harbinger. Sully has to fight his way through all sorts of attacks and danger.

This books a lulu. Bathe takes Sully down a very rough trail. One that Des really can't help him with. Everything from unbelievable heartaches to getting lost in his own mind. The end is unexpected.

The continuing story of Sully and his family is a read that keeps you up at night going "just one more chapter". The atmosphere in this book affected me to the point where I had actual goosebumps running up my arms as I read. I couldn’t stop until I had finished the book and it left me wanting more!

Glued

I literally couldn't put this book down. It was emotional at the end and was gluedto it from start to finish. The book has ended on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I wonder what the author is going to come up with next!

Really good read and would definitely recommend to anyone that likes a good supernatural thriller

Good story

This is great, only I don't like cliff hangers and I hope this doesn't go on for the next 11 books cause then I will stop, I don't like it when books are too long. It seems never ending, I want different stories in ea h book, not the same story dragged on through 11 books more or so.

So engaging!

This book is so well-written you just don’t want to put it down. H.P. Blayne continues this series with gusto, not pulling any punches or tiptoeing around difficult issues. I’m ready to start the next book in the series, The Dule Tree!

The story of Sully continues as his psychic abilities are threatened. Parts of this story are very sad, as Sully deals with his family and what he must hide from them. I look forward to the next book in this series!
