Secrets of My Mountain

Rate this book
K.M. Perry's debut memoir takes us on a harrowing journey by unveiling her traumatic childhood and paralleling it with her constant quest to seek justice for others as an adult. Through the twists and turns of life, not all is as random as it seems, as Ms. Perry continuously strives to work with resiliency, mercy, and justice to balance the world that she experienced as a child. After years of running a non-profit underground railroad relocating domestic violence victims, Ms. Perry began working internationally on life-saving missions for a non-governmental humanitarian aid organization throughout the Middle East. Justice is in the eye of the beholder when her life takes an unexpected turn as a group of men associated with an extremist religious organization in Israel targets her as the enemy with tragic results.Ms. Perry shares a small part of her life story, as an overarching message of encouragement to show bravery in the face of adversity, to go forward in life with courage, and to do our individual part in making the world a better place for our future generations.Transformational events bring forth issues of personal ethics intersecting with family, religion, history, and culture.

This has been difficult to follow and a little too upsetting at times. I respect what the author has been through and the story she is trying to tell, but I probably won't finish this.

This memoir, carefully crafted, caused me to feel a plethora of emotions at every page turn. I felt anger, deep sadness, joy, and compassion as I followed Karena’s footsteps through a span of roughly 52 years. I shed tears at the many injustices she lived through; the hands of a cruel mother and circumstances she couldn’t control. Loss, pain both physical and mental, enlightenment, self-determination, and perseverance have carried Karena through the passage of time and given her life purpose. I shed tears of joy at her willingness to sacrifice her life in order to help humanity, one soul at a time. I savored each page. Karena painted a picture full of detail, causing me to reflect on a deep level. May the Mountain always be in sight.

Fascinating. The author gives us polished stones (memories that glisten) set with only as much context as we need. Philosophical thoughts nestle with secret intrigue. The descriptions of maternal love are more than beautiful - they are inspirational. The time spent with K.M. Perry is well rewarded.
There are painful experiences retold, but determination and love of animals and humans are shared too.
