Christmas Eve 1914 and soldiers on the Western Front have been fighting for four months. But from the German trenches comes the sound of soldiers singing carols - and the Allied troops join in. The shooting dies down and on Christmas morning some of the soldiers bravely step out into No Man's Land and shake hands with the 'enemy'. These are the letters British soldiers wrote home about the remarkable event. The letters were taken by families to their local newspaper to share the amazing news and volunteers have now transcribed hundreds of them to make them widely available once more.
