The Stopping Place

Rate this book
Simeon Frith is recovering from a car accident at his house in Cornwall. He’s a successful man and usually very self-sufficient, but after attempting to open a can of baked beans with a brick, he realises that he needs help. However, he never imagined that putting an advert in the paper for an assistant would result in the gorgeous Ziggy Tuesday sauntering into his life.

The much younger Ziggy is fun and free-spirited, and an attraction quickly grows between them. When they finally sleep together and Ziggy insists that it be completely strings-free, Simeon can’t believe his luck. However, to his horror, he develops unforeseen feelings for the laidback surfer, and he can’t stop them, despite knowing that Ziggy will always leave. It’s what he’s done all his life.

From bestselling author Lily Morton comes a short story about a summer fling that is going to change two men’s lives forever.

This story originally appeared in the third Heart2Heart charity anthology. It has had a new scene and an epilogue added to it.

The Stopping Place is an age-gap luscious morsel. 🥰
Tender and hot at the same time.
Besides, it managed to pack a lot of feels in only 71 pages.
Loved both MCs.

I originally read and reviewed this story as part of the third Heart2Heart charity anthology. It was my favorite of the bunch, and I'm happy to say that I loved it just as much when I reread. The epilogue (set two years in the future as per my wish below) solidified Ziggy and Sim's HEA. This story is classic Lily Morton: sweet, funny, and romantic.

Original review:

This story made me happy and was by far my favorite one out of the few I read. Lily Morton always delivers heat and romance. I loved Ziggy and Sim, loved their connection and their cute dogs. I'm always a fan of age gap stories where the MCs are on equal footing. Sim may have been more traditionally successful than Zig, but he never treated Zig as anything but an equal. I would kill to read a full length story about this couple, how they met, their first time together, and a HEA set a couple years in the future. (Thank you, Lily, for adding the perfect epilogue!)

Wonderful short story by Lily Morton about 44-year-old Simeon having taken some time off from his job in London to recover after a car accident and 25-year-old Ziggy, who Simeon hires sort of as his assistant to help him around the house as he can't do everything by himself with an arm in a cast.

They start sleeping together, and Ziggy wants it to be casual, for understandable reasons from his past, but Simeon catches the feelings and can't really hide that. But Ziggy has obviously caught them too.

For a short story, this was wonderful. It sets up their connection really well, and while we don't get to see everything quite like we would in a full length novel, what we got was really good and made the love between these two believable, and it of course ends on a wonderful happy note. I enjoyed these two together immensely.

Also it's a nice, quick read that is well written, which is always a plus.

Definitely recommend!

This was sexy, adorable, sweet, funny! Loved Simeon and Ziggy. I would have liked a few more pages to add depth and understand Ziggy better, but at the same time, I loved how short it was.

4.5 “ All I know is that I don’t want anyone. I want you.” stars

This was a re-read for me. But i’ve been super stressed with university lately and I needed a pick me up and I knew that this book would offer me that. This book is just a shot of happiness for me, I just love it. It’s such a heartfelt and feel good love story. This is just the kind of super swoony romance that gives me all the feels. I just really love this book and re-reading it put me in such a good mood. I think I enjoyed this re-read more than I enjoyed the book the first time I read it, because this was the exact book I need right now.

Wow...the first chapter had me almost swallowing my tongue.
I was not expecting that. And I wasn't sure I liked being dropped into their bed like that.
And then...then we discovered how and why they ended up in that bed and I held on tight.
My fingers turned white as I moved from chapter to chapter.
And I was swooning and smiling when the final pages zoomed out of nowhere.
Interesting pace.
Emotionally packed.
And full of unexpected love so bright I had to shield my eyes.
Love truly is unstoppable.

Simeon and Ziggy are two characters that really just worked for me, you know? So much so I'd have loved a longer book fleshing them out more .... I'd have eaten that up with a spoon.

So although I wanted more because I'm greedy like that, I'm still rating this one 5 stars. It was the perfect short read.

Loved it!

BR with my girl Cass

This one felt like it started smack dab in the middle. It kinda made me sad on everything that I missed out on before we reached this intimate stage.

I honestly thought both these characters were wonderful and they deserved a full pledged story that would’ve dragged me through hell and back to get to this point.

There was still plenty of angst, just enough emotions leading up that I was invested in these men. I would’ve loved more steam but that’s probably me being greedy.

For a short story it was almost enough but I just wanted more. They were so beautiful I doubt I would’ve ever gotten enough.

I adore Lily Morton's characters ! The surfer and the wealthy art guy... Superb !
Polzeath, Cornwall. Simeon needs help to recover from his accident. Lots of people apply, Ziggy is chosen.
The free spirit, Ziggy Tuesday, 25, laid back,

tall and slim, long blonde hair, a surfer dude and
his dog Meggy, will be helping.

This laid back Ziggy draws Simeon in.

Simeon Frith is 44, dark brown hair and beard

with an Irish setter,

can't do much with a broken arm and damaged ribs.

We like each man right away. They are funny and get along so well.
This short story sets us up well, and gets to the point.

It is different, fascinating, super sexy, and heartwarming.

This is a Gem !
ENJOY !

I read this when it was part of the Heart2Heart anthology so I was very pleased Lily went back and expanded it a bit.

Simeon and Ziggy are an odd pairing on paper but in practice, they just work.

Be warned, the opening to this book is not only NSFW, it's also one of the hottest scenes Lily has written.

As a PS, the constant mickey taking out of Simply Red just cracks me up every single time I read this story.

3.75 Sweet-short-story Stars!! 💕 👍I love LM's books; but I was not a fan of the first chapter, it shocked me a little. I do understand that in short stories it is not feasible to explore a slow burning romance, nevertheless I would have liked to know how Simeon and Ziggy came together initially. 🤔
Told from the POV of Simeon this is a April-October romance, with Simeon wanting more from Ziggy than just a casual relationship. But Ziggy has reasons for his wanderlust and it will take a lot of love and patience from Simeon for Ziggy to trust again. The story over-all is sweet and emotional about how two lonely hearts find love and a happily ever after. 😍 💝

Have you ever come to a stopping place?

You have probably had many pauses and changes of direction in your life, but eventually everyone comes to the nexus where things are the best they can be. Maybe not perfect, but much better than anywhere else or with anyone else. And you have to stay together or else.

An injured gentlemen seeks assistance following a car accident. A surfer world traveler still mourning the loss of his family that returns home to recharge before moving on to new waves and adventures. But somehow the short time together builds trust and dependency on both that leads to more than hydrating for each other. As the moment of the end of employment approaches, both re-evaluate their lives and their dreams only to discover that a few changes can make their lives much more fulfilled. The obvious age differences and lifestyle choices are not the end. Just the beginning.

I read this novella when it was previously published in one of the Heart2Heart Anthologies. An epilogue has been added to this version.

You might remember Simeon from one of Lily Morton’s previous books, “Milo.” In that one he tried and failed to woo Milo. Here he gets his own HEA.

This is a sweet, little gem of a story. It feels complete for it’s length. Simeon and Ziggy are a couple you can root for. There’s an age gap that works, it’s sexy and it’s full of the snarky banter that Lily always brings to her guys.

The added epilogue gave it more of a firm HEA and I think it enhanced things.

This short story starts of with a very unexpected bang.
Wow, Lily Morton certainly pulls out all the stops in this sizzly, heated scene!

This is a cute age gap novella with Ziggy and Simeon both very likeable characters, but I have read the same plot (I think) about twice in the last few months, so no surprises there.

If you fancy a tasty, cute and hot morsel of Morton goodness, go for it!

Sad to say that the magic has gone for me with Lily Morton.

I found this short story to be boring and I did not like that it jumps straight into a sex scene.

But unspoken is the knowledge that the time is running out for me to listen

What a wonderful story! Starts a bit unexpected but makes a 365 turn.

Told from the POV of Simeon this is an April-October romance, with Simeon wanting more from Ziggy than just a casual relationship. Ziggy, who is trying to escape the past and never stays in one place, finds more love and patience from Simeon than he ever dreamt of. Morton played wonderfully on the age difference to create some amazing comedic moments throughout the story.

"...She's all I've got"

"She's not all you've got. You've got me"

"Still?"

"Always!"

The story over-all is sweet and emotional about how two lonely hearts find love and happily ever after!

Ziggy Tuesday & Sim

3.5 stars

A short story. Age gap. Starts off as s3x but turns into more. Ziggy was just suppose to take care of Sim while his injuries healed. When the time to depart came Sim asked Ziggy to stay. Ziggy is use to leaving and traveling nothing is forever for him. Question is can Sim be his forever though?

An expert blend of sexy, sweet and snarky - a lovely May/December (or, more accurately July to very blustery October) story in which forty-four year old Simeon hires twenty-five year old Ziggy Tuesday to be his 'assistant' (cook, dog-walker, driver) while he's recovering from a broken arm.

They start hooking up, although Ziggy wants to keep things casual (for reasons we don't learn until the end and which make a lot of sense) - and to start with that's fine by Simeon... until the time for Ziggy's departure nears and Simeon realises he's developed feelings for the younger man that go way beyond sex. And even thought we only get Simeon's PoV here, the author does a great job of showing that Ziggy has caught feelings, too and doesn't know how to handle them.

While the relationship is perhaps not as detailed as it would be in a full-length novel, the connection between Simeon and Ziggy is strong and well-established, and the HEA is lovely.
