Ginta is a near-sighted junior high school boy who has a reoccurring dream where he is a hero in a fantasy world, and one day a supernatural figure summons him to his dream world.
I love the character designs of the chess pieces and the aesthetics of Arms. Snow’s are a bit bland, but I’m sure it’s the tip of the iceberg. Of the characters that I actually want to see what the backstories are, because they show a hint of what’s interesting, are Dorothy, Nanashi and Ian. I’m going to be cheering for Ian by the end of all this. Nanashi has the most reason (his character is a mishandled ladies’ man (?) – which is forced). Dorothy has had no development so I was inevitably drawn to her desire for vengeance.
I’m not going to hold my hopes up because they are almost all vengeance-driven characters. There is something about it that really gets the adrenaline pumping for me. I’m talking stories about payback like Denahi in Brother Bear or Todd in Fox and the Hound. Make my wheels spin Nobuyuki Anzai!
I kind of wished the fights between Snow and Fugi and Nanashi and Loco had been just a bit more detailed - drawn out a little longer. I like Loco and her Darkness ÄRM’s consequence though!
