"She led me as part of her being. I actually felt her pain, as if it was me! I'm simply blown away by her clarity. She has chosen the path of forgiveness & standing tall. Her path is one that I would like to emulate."

"The “man’s search for meaning” of our generation. Everyone should read this and consider what insurmountable odds actually are and how much they actually have."

AS FEATURED ON THE BREAKING CODE SILENCE WEBSITE ALONGSIDE PARIS HILTONFor years, Skye tried to escape the darkness in her wealthy, influential family. Long after disappearing, her battle continued. Skye appeared to live the perfect, privileged life of a physician's daughter. When she turned thirteen, she began to realize something was terribly wrong with her circumstances. In heartbreaking detail, Skye shares the extreme escalation from medications to numerous institutions to ensure her silence. Silenced by her father's reputation and influence, Skye shares her struggles to get to safety, fighting into adulthood to extricate herself from the grasp of a powerful man; at all costs. Skye recounts the pain permeating her circumstances from the perspective of a teen, shamelessly sharing her descent into drug life and trafficking in young adulthood. As she survives a Michigan homeless shelter and beats the odds to join the military, Skye struggles to find support or belief from her wingmen and must fight to keep her clearance. Skye boldly shares the heartbreaking state of the pediatric pharmaceutical industry, the caveats of powerful parents and the paradox of the missing child's voice into adulthood in efforts to raise awareness of white collar crime, the troubled teen industry and to bring compassion to the 'troubled' child.
This was a very inspiring story. It reads like a novel. I can’t believe how badly Skye was treated by her family. She is obviously a strong person who cares about contributing to her community. She was very courageous to make it past the abuse she suffered and make a life for herself.
My daughter has Ehlers-Danlos too. It is a hidden disability that most people don’t understand. But it can cause very debilitating chronic pain with lots of other medical problems tacked on and it can be life threatening too.
A generally do not leave a Review if I do not like a book. Find it very hard to believe That's someone Would go to this much trouble to give their family hell. I did not love her mom and daddy at all but I do not know why some people Have a harder time Adjusting to life. My best friend in school had horrible parents They treated her and her sisters horribly. They All 5 became Sociable Acceptable people Despite their parents abuse. I just don't understand This woman.
I've read many memoirs on abuse and neglect but this was a tough one (they all are ). I am hoping your parents and family do not have the privilege of being involved in your life. How horrible your Dad made your life and how different it could have been with loving and kind parents, but your experiences and fighting spirit is what made YOU an amazing person!! Wish you nothing but continued success.
The “man’s search for meaning” of our generation. Everyone should read this and consider what insurmountable odds actually are and how much they actually have.
It’s hard to believe that parents can be so hard and unfair but maybe that early life is what gave Skye the strength to overcome her problems and accomplish what she did and then writing a memoir that will encourage others to not give up.
A must read! Heart wrenching, the author really draws you in. Hard to believe this is a true story. She beat the odds though. Super impressed with her writing style for her first book too.
A must read for anyone who’s been abused or wants to understand those who have been. Thank you, Skye, for telling your heartbreaking story. I’m incredibly proud of your strength and talent for writing.
