"All this has to be related. The Stone. Two imaginary drowning experiences. This girl. The rain. The crazy weather. Child of Aqua, save us."
The worst night of Zoey’s life was labelled a freak accident—a house fire that killed both her parents and destroyed her family home. She believes she will never be able to move on, but she tries to remain positive for her sister. Then one rainy day, Zoey starts hearing voices from the oceans and rivers, and it soon becomes clear that the fire was anything but an accident.
A mysterious young girl appears before Zoey and reveals the truth. For thousands of years, the spirit Topaz has carried the burden of controlling the elements, but things have changed. Now, the responsibility has been passed on, and Zoey has been chosen to control one of the four elements: Water. Zoey struggles to come to terms with her new powers, especially when she realises they put a target on her back. As Zoey learns to fight back, she begins to question whether Topaz is the hero of the story or the villain…
A great debut novel with an engaging plot and intriguing concept. Characters were well developed and likeable with believable interactions. 10/10 would highly recommend
This book is the first from a young author. It’s ideal Teen fiction/fantasy. The main character Zoey struggles with the death of her parents in a freak accident. She is trying to piece her life together when she learns that she has been chosen to help control an element - water. She meets up with others who have been given a similar date. Soon it becomes apparent that this a battle of good and evil. A fast paced novel which keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next! I liked the character development as the book progressed - leaving me still not sure if Topaz is villain or hero - but plenty to debate
