【2025Book02】"秋园" by Grandma Yang Benfen. This book is a biographical novel in memory of the author's mother, a common woman living in the countryside of the 20th-century China. The title "秋园" (Qiuyuan), literally meaning the autumn garden, is the name of the author's mother in the novel. There are a large number of Hunan dialect words in this book, which filled me with a deep sense of nostalgia because Hunan is my home province. While reading, I couldn't help but think of my own grandmother, who, like Qiuyuan, was a rural teacher and endured countless hardships in her lifetime, especially from the 1950s to the 1970s. Also, this book constantly reminded me of "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Both books are not merely about suffering; they are, above all, hymns for women who lived tenaciously, refused to give up, and held hope in the face of inescapable hardship. They are "the thousand splendid suns that hide behind" the countless walls across the vast lands of Asia.
