C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.

One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.

Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.

Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.

His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.

Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.

I have read all the books in the Corps Justice Series. C.G. Cooper is not a very good writer but the first 13 books in the series were entertaining escape reading--a handful of good guy patriots vs bad guys with lots of action. No. 14 was okay but incomplete as was No. 15. No. 16 was just not good, but I figured I'd give this one a try. Bad mistake. This book is garbage. Fortunately it was free on Kindle Unlimited, but it still wasted 5 hours of my life that I could have done something more productive and intellectual--like watching Gilligan's Island re-runs. Sorry, Cooper but I am officially done reading anything you write.

I have read all the books in the Corps Justice series and found Matters of State & The Man from Belarus to be the worst of the bunch. I've historically given 4 and 5-star reviews but this time, I almost closed the book for good at a third of the way in. I found myself confused and wondered what was taking place as the author jumped around a lot. There was no action, team missions, witty banter between team members and a clear case of who is good and who is bad in the story. I truly believed that a ghostwriter completed these last two books as the personality of CG Cooper was not evident in these two stories. I'm hoping the next installment returns to the ways of old and engages readers from the very start. I can't recommend either of these two books.

Another excellent book that is a Great Read!!

Cal Stokes finds an Uncle (Adam) he did not know about, and is staying with him in Paris trying to get to know him, when friends of Adam start to be murdered.

Daniel Briggs is reconnecting with a girl from his past and romance is starting.
The new Director of the CIA hates Cal’s father and wants to destroy the Stokes family.
The Russian President is trying to steal money from Cal’s friend.
A few new characters are introduced, and add to the story.

As all of the various plots become intertwined the Adventure takes off into another Corps Justice thrill ride.

This story has many twists and turns as the story unfolds. Enjoy this great adventure as you tag along. I think you will really enjoy this book, I know I did!!

Great writer and series, hands down

I thoroughly like the pace and storyline of the book.

I typically read Tom Clancy style books, but I would say this series is that and more.

I purchased the first core of justice book as an Amazon suggestion and I burned through all of the books in the series that were released in days. Now I eagerly await each new release.

I enjoy Cooper’s writing style so much I believe I’ve read everything he has published on Amazon. I can’t recommend this book and series enough.

Note - I don’t recall ever leaving a review before, but I believe this series and writer deserves it.

I will say I won the ability to read this book pre-release and now have to anxiously wait for the next book in the series.

Rat-a-tat pace kept me from putting it down! Very fun and exciting. This is my first in the series so I’m sure I didn’t get everything, so I’m definitely going back to the beginning.

Outstanding story

Thanks to goodreads and Mr Cooper for the advance copy of this great series. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to keep all the different story lines straight while watching everyone getting off their game Snake eyes. As the story line develops Cal and Daniel wind up in Russia. Thanks for great story and can hardly wait for the next one.

Matters of State, # 17 in the Corps Justice Series. This is another C. G. Cooper fast-paced, action-packed adventure with Cal Stokes and The Jefferson Group. Cal meets his Uncle Adam Stokes, his father’s only brother. Daniel and Anna reveal surprising feelings for each other. There are some new and old really nasty characters back to wreak havoc on the team.
Carlos never stops amazing me with his ability to weave a story. When you think you've figured it out BAM, right to the back of your head. The downs and ups of the characters really made my head spin. Another Corps Justice adventure where every character is strong and exciting!
Matters of State is the typical Cooper buckle your seat belt fast paced barn burner with twists and turns throughout.
If you have read The Man From Belarus you MUST READ Matters Of State!!! If you haven’t read Man From Belarus get your copy before you order Matters Of State!

The Saga Continues

C.G.Cooper artfully continues the Stokes family legend with the introduction of Cal's formerly unknown uncle. Both old and new characters in the Corp Justice team up in Paris and ultimately in Russia for their latest mission. I liked the character development of Cal's Uncle Adam, Anna, and Lena by the use of back story chapters. I did not like the depressive moods of Cal and Daniel based on the events of the previous book. This is definitely an "in between "book. Cal and Daniel are grieving Diane's death in the previous book and the end of this book leaves the story hanging for the following book. I would recommend this book for true aficionados of the Corp Justice collection. Newcomers will be lost midstream.

It's a good read.

The characters are flushed out a little more. There's also a hint of things on the horizon.
I love to hate the bad guys. I like the way the book ends too. I think this book flows better than the last one too.

5-star rating for the "not quite ready to publish" new Corp Justice novel?

We were lucky enough to snag an advance copy of " Matters of State " in the author 's giveaway to his readers. Even recognizing that there may be a few tweaks made to the "finished" product (couple of typos, etc.), NOTHING was lost in the story. I'll quote my wife and say: "Dammit Carlos! Now we gotta wait months for the next one!"

This one develops fascinating new characters, fleshes out some of our favorites and winds us around the maze of the author's mind so that we can't help but ask: "What's next?!". Waiting impatiently ...

Another wonderful addition to the Corps Justice series, picks up right where The Man From Belarus left off. This book answers some the questions from the last book. A couple of new characters introduced, one good and one bad. One of them was an actual contest winner that the author had put out there for his fan base a few months ago. This new character was creatively built up and became a nice addition to a new character you met at the end of the previous novel. A very enjoyable read and still relative after 16 other story lines. The end is definitely worth reading all the way thru the book for. A great cliff hanger and still a few unanswered questions to lead in the next novel.

Not up to the other books in the series

I have read the entire Corps Justice series and was hooked from the first book. I could not wait for this book to come out, but was very disappointed in it. Missing is the action, core character interaction, and gripping international politics that all of the previous 16 books came to be known for. This was mostly just basic storytelling and seemed more like a book that was written to fulfill a publishing quota than one that was part of a long series. I appreciate an author trying new things, but wish they would do that in a new series rather than completely changing the tempo and format in an existing series where readers have a set expectation. I will give the next book in the series a chance, but if this keeps up I may stop reading the series after that.

From Then to Now, Cooper Rocks

I've had the honor of being a beta reader in the early days, and have read all of the Corps Justice books. I marvel at how Matters of State is as strong as Back to War. Oldest to newest are equally well written.

Cooper's books just get better, with each new book.

This one has the strong characters and excellent plotline that have been Cooper's trademark all along. What's amazing is that his other, non Corps, books are equally well written.

C.G.Cooper is a force of nature, and his books keep me entertained no matter how many times I have read them.

Matters of State has zigs and zags and is delightfully twisted...until it isn't. Take your time and be thoroughly entertained.

Matters of State. C.G. Cooper

Cal Stokes has an uncle in Paris he knows little if anything about. Stokes SR. His father and his dad's brother had had a difficult separation, a result of his uncle trying to find his own way in live. Close friends of his uncle are being murdered in Paris. Old wounds are being reopened. The Dutchess is behind this. The one who recruited him into the the life of a spy. She also seduced him. Then abandoned him. The current director of the CIA has a personal vendetta against Cal Stokes and Daniel Briggs. Initially involving Cals father. All the players including the Russian president are being brought into play. This is an espionage action thriller of mega proportions!!! My highest recommendation!!

Thank you to author C.G. Cooper for this FREE Kindle copy of Matters of State. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.

I liked it. A compact and easy to read, if not a little predictable, espionage/spy thriller. The women involved are stunningly beautiful, the men are big, and all are talented and crafty in their trade.

This copy of Matters of State is an early edition advanced reader copy, and as such has some editing work to be done, but provides a good look into what will be. A nice lite read with enough action, wrapped in a well written story, to hold the readers interest.

I have all 17 books in the series. The last three have been very disappointing and not that entertaining. The action and thrill of the first fourteen books is missing from the last three 15-Darker Path (very dark and depressing); 16- Man From Belarus- very disjointed and at time hard to follow. 17- Matters of State- again extremely hard to follow and understand where the storyline was going.

I understand C.G. is trying to breath life into his characters with their backstory but he has taken the soul from them in the last three books and set them adrift in mass of confusion. At least to this reader. Sorry, not a fan the final three.

Interesting, but different

I have been a great fan of the Corps Justice novels for sometime. They are always full of adventure and danger and excitement. However, this one was a little different. The team really didn’t get together to kick butt. It was more philosophical and told more about the family as a new uncle appeared. The story was good though. I loved the fact that the author used the name of one of his greatest fans as the new character Glenda Younger. She was pretty awesome. I hope the series isn’t over. I’ll have to start the Daniel Brigg’s series now.

I am over 40% into it and I don’t know what the story line is? Besides jumping all over the place to try and keep all the characters involved, I don’t know where we are going. Then we go back in time from the present so I just don’t get it. It’s not an engaging novel, maybe I don’t read fast enough? I loved most all of his previous Corps Justice books but this one and the previous one are not up to par. This book was a disappointment for me. 3 at best.

Stories Keep getting better

Just when you think the stories might take a downward turn, Mr. Cooper takes an upward leap with the story.
He really knows how to put together so many little plots and make them work very well into the book.
There are only a couple of Authors who can make you feel like you are in the story with the characters and Mr. Cooper is definitely one of them.

A quick and enjoyable read. Truthfully, I haven’t been a fan of the direction the author has taken Cal Stokes. Diane’s death was unnecessary, and seemed to be a rehash of his fiancées murder.
The latest volume adds some breadth to Daniel Briggs, which I like, but the SSI team barely appears. Lena is an interesting character, though I’m not sure where Cooper is going with her development.
