Pie Style is a beautiful book with out of this world creations. I was mislead by myself into thinking this is a traditional pie cookbook. It is not. There are amazing creations using pie crust, elevating it from just a pie to a work of art. But the gems are the pies themselves. A peach pie in a 9x13 pan. An apple rhubarb pie, which is a combination I never thought of putting together. For me, I don’t have the patience for a pretty top so will be using full crust top when applicable.
If you or someone you love likes various types of pies, tarts, or braids, just to name a few, check this book out. If you’re artistic and want to stretch your wings, check this book out. If you are none of those things but this review has piqued your interest, still check out pie style. While the book is geared at helping you make a stunning looking pie, the pies themselves sound delicious and worth it all on their own.
Mostly recipes, not a ton of techniques or templates. Not quite what I was expecting but then again, it’s a cookbook about pie....what was I expecting?
I am not a baker. Not by any stretch of the imagination, but there is something for everyone in this book. Beginning instructions, as well as, advanced our techniques and tips. Here’s to baking something sweet! 🥧
Singularly the best pie book I've read--step by step instructions and clear photographs, with so many great tips and techniques for getting distinct, beautiful designs. Takes a lot of time and care (and freezer space!) but worth it when you're feeling like putting some extra love into your bake.
It's a good book for cooks who like complicated and very hard work. It has beautiful setups and well photographed. And very intricate designs of pies and tarts.
great book with clear ingredient lists and directions. covers both sweet and savory. plan to make many of the recipes including the Mid-Century Modern Lemon Meringue Tart.
Attempted the pineapple flower tart - after 6 hours pineapple slices looked nothing like the beauty in the picture - I suspect some slices were added to make the petals - mine remained soggy and barely browned on the edges. Also would recommend de-coring the pineapple - center is bitter and tough.
