Heather never wanted to be a witch. Her family would have been dysfunctional enough without superpowers, but with them? They're nightmares.
And all Heather wants to be is normal.

Cassandra Faye lives in Texas where she's done nothing but fantasize about other worlds her entire life. Constantly daydreaming about ancient powers, faerie realms, old gods, and how seriously dangerous unicorns would be if they existed, Cassandra writes the stories she's always craved. Taking paranormal and fantasy worlds, mixing them in with modern day, and adding a dash of darkness.
So, if you enjoy those fairy tales that were a little more grimm, or if you ever wondered just how bad the villains could be as you held on for that happily-ever-after, then you might be just the person she's writing for.

I really like this book. I like connections in it and how it works. Nothing is as it seems, and that always makes for a fun story, I think.
I like Heather. I think that she has a very good heart, and she wants to do the right thing, or at least what she sees as the right thing. I don't think that she really wants to follow in her families' footsteps. I'm pretty sure that I don't like her family, because they aren't really nice, most of them, at least. They put too much pressure on Heather. Anyway, I like Heather.
I don't like Neil, but that may be through a lens from having read the book. He works for the point he needs to work for in the book.
There are several other characters that I really like, like Rick. He seems like a really good guy, for sure. And you know, maybe a little kinky.
This is not a typical "witch" story. Of course magic is involved; some of it used for good, some used for not so good. But the who, how, and why will keep you flipping pages. And just when you think you have it figured it, PLOT TWIST! Plenty of steamy scenes to go with it too. Oh and bonus, you get to see what happens when karma comes around. LOVED THIS STORY and author. Cannot wait to see more from her!
I’ve got to admit paranormal isn’t a favourite genre of mine though I will read it if I love the authors previous books so that’s how I found myself reading this....and loving it.
This is the story of Heather who is a witch. For her to claim her powers she must find a man but that could risk his life.
Dangerous Magic was such a great story by Cassandra Faye! I loved the magic combined with the sexual tension release that the character receives several times in this book. The idea of magical beings, and BDSM mixed together, is such a delicious combination.
Another great story by Cassandra Faye. I loved the struggles that Heather has to go through. Will she make the right decision concerning Neil? A page turned that will keep you reading until you finish it.
What an original premise to this story about a family of witches. It was very steamy, a little dark and just an enjoyable read that had me wondering how it was all going to play out. I really felt for the main character and her ethical dilemma and how to please her family while being true to her beliefs. If you are looking for a different paranormal look no further
Another great book by Cassandra Faye that I enjoyed completely! It’s definitely nothing like what you expect while reading. I loved Heather and everything she had gone through, I love the elements of this story, and I enjoyed the connections that were made! The darkness pulled me in, forsure!
It’s a story that will keep you flipping the pages!!
In the mid 1960s there was a TV program called Bewitched. A beautiful witch meets and marries a mortal A beautiful witch meets and marries a mortal and vows to lead the life of a typical suburban housewife. Her magical family disapproves of the mixed marriage and frequently interferes in the couple's lives.
That is not how this will work out. Heather has a vast secret society of family witches, most are power hungry, manipulative, and behave as a law into themselves. They threaten her with “termination” if her initiation ritual isn’t completed before the total solar eclipse on the vernal equinox. Needless to say there wouldn’t be a story if things went as planned.
Heather has a sequence of issues, some more life threatening than others, but she manages to keep her on and off relationship with a mortal named Rick secret. Rick is a lucky man that this natural witch has the ability to cast spells and exert unique magical powers instead of the mortal variety that are vengeful, bitter, and self absorbed.
Happiness comes in the end but it was a bumpy flight to get there. Vicious family members, villains, the misery of formalized matchmaking, and uncontrolled bursts of magic keep things moving along at a brisk clip.
This is a story with a few clever twists, some endearing people, witches, warlocks and mortals, and more than a few who deserve what becomes of them. An easy quick read. Enjoy.
I absolutely loved this story! Heather had to make hard choices in this story... and when she caved to her families pressures and threats... she suffered sever consequences for those choices.. I loved how it all worked out in the end.
The tension and the suspense in this story kept me on the edge of my seat. I was wondering how this was going to work out and my heart hurt with the choices Heather had to make.. and I wondered if she would go thru with it?.. If she could go thru with it?.. How do you make a choice like that?..
Neil.. I felt sorry for everything that he suffered...but he was really no better than Heather's family with what he planed to do. He deserved everything he got in this story... I just wish he had suffered more after what he did to Heather.
Rick.. I loved this man! He was perfect for Heather. I loved how accepting he was of everything about Heather. I loved how calm he was when Heather lost control of her magic and never got mad about it. I loved how he encouraged and pushed her to get the help she needed to learn to control it.
I'm not sure how it would be done.. but I hope we get more stories like this from this author.. In the same world maybe? Some of the people we met in this story.. I'm not sure if it would be appropriate if any of her family got their magic back... they were so evil with it. But maybe a few of them can earn it back? I don't know... I just know I want more books like this by this author! It was fantastic!
Oh, this was just what I needed! It had magic, crazy relatives, hot guys, hotter sex, and was a quick afternoon read. I am always blown away at the diversity in Ms. Bene's writing. Each of her stories is so different from the others. There is no formula (Thank-you!) other than they will be dark. I love that every time I pick up one of her books I am sucked into another time and place. She has a way of not just bringing her characters to life, but of making you become that character. The emotions, motives, and thoughts are all there for you to experience. It is one of my favorite things about her as an author and even though this story is a shorter one the experience was the same.
Without restating the blurb, or giving away the story-line, I will only tell you that the characters are amazing, the romance is dark and delicious, and I could have spent a lot more time with Heather and her crazy family.
Dangerous Magic is an amazing read. It has a little bit of everything a girl could want when you just want to check out from the real world for a bit. It has the perfect balance of magic, mystery, charming hotties, crazy relatives and a just the right amount of humor to make for the perfect book escape.
Heather Pritchett is born into a family of witches but has yet to claim her powers. To claim her powers she had to find a man to perform the coven's rite on, it also means he will die. After years of putting it off she is put on the spot and pressure from the family is intense. She is pushed to find a man to sacrifice and finds herself at a speed dating mixer to find the right man for the job, Neil. But what she doesn’t know is that Neil is there for more than just finding a hot date and the twists and turns from there are griping.
This is such an amazing story that had me turning the pages into the late hours. I simply couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this to everyone!
The Rite is a very unique and interesting story. I’ve never read a PNR with this kind of theme involved. I thought it was fantastic. I loved Heather. I thought she was a strong character with morals and ethics despite her family. She stayed true to herself. Omg Rick what’s not to love about him! Their relationship is wonderful. Yet complex because of what’s expected of Heather. I liked seeing that despite her families ultimatum and what they would do to her,she still was able to trust in Rick. Ms. Faye did an outstanding job mixing PNR and BDSM. It was gripping and sexy. The twists and turns kept me engaged and wanting to do how it was going to end because there was no way to predict the outcome. I highly recommend The Rite to those who enjoy PNR and to anyone who would like to read a good book and get away from reality for a bit.
All Heather Pritchett wants is to be with the incredibly hot Rick but he's off limits, unless she wants him on her family's radar, which would be very bad. Heather has been given an ultimatum by her coven, the Pritchett witches, find a guy to complete the rite and claim her power or die. Heather's cousin Theresa finds the perfect solution ... speed dating. Heather meets the charming and hot Neil at speed dating and tries to put him off by telling him she's a witch. It doesn't work and Heather and Neil end up on date but can she go through with the rite when it would mean Neil would have to die? Will Heather ever get the normal life she dreams of?
Dangerous Magic is a dark, drama-filled and steamy paranormal story that will have you on the edge of your seat
Dangerous Magic was a very addictive read about Heather Pritchett, who is a witch, and in order for her to claim her powers she had to find a man to perform the coven's rite on, but that means he could die. Heather isn't down with this as she just wants to be normal, but that's not in the cards for her because her family won't allow it. Her cousin gets her to do speed dating, which is when Neil comes across her path. Heather has tried everything to get him to run, but they end up on a date anyway. This story was super original, super entertaining with a kicker of some dark in it to keep me on the edge of my seat cover to cover. I simply couldn't get enough, and I feel like everyone will feel the same so hit those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
This remains one of my all-time favorites from this author. It's a tale of innocence and darkness, the pressures of family and tradition. Actions and consequences. And of course, a healthy dose of BDSM to make the PNR go down smooth. Heather is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place, seeking solace in the one man she can't be with. Her family's demands are barbaric, but Heather has no choice to make the choice: her life or a stranger's. I love this story because, even though the setting is based in the paranormal and witchcraft (yippee!), it hits home how we all cave to family, and sometimes it's nice to believe there's a different ending to the reality of our own lives. Highly recommended!
Here is another Fantastic Read by one of my favorite authors. We are dropped, unceremoniously, in the middle of an argument between cousins and from there we are led down the trail of magic and modern day witches. I really do enjoy the way Cassandra is able to make you invest in her characters emotionally from the start. Heather is caught between a rock and a hard place. Her extended family needs her to complete a ritual that Heather finds morally repulsive. Eventually she chooses her mother's well-being over her desire to refuse her extended family's request. With this choice comes changes that Heather was unable to predict or anticipate. I am left smiling at Heather's new life.
The writing was flawless and flowed really well, the bdsm scenes were described brilliantly and overall it was a good story line. I was waiting for something more to happen in the book, maybe some fall out from Neil's family or hers, but that didnt mean i didnt enjoy it, just i would have loved to have read more, maybe as a series.
I think i was very imaginative and the scenes where described vividly so that as a reader you could visualise each moment. I enjoyed heathers thoughts and feelings and i loved that Rick was so patient and understanding.
This is my first from this author and i will definitely read more from her 😊
I absolutely loved this book!! PNR with BDSM sprinkled throughout is my kind of book! Heather doesn’t want to kill anybody but to come into her power she must sacrifice the man in a ritual. She is the last hold out of her family of the witches of age to not come into her power. Her cousin convinces her to go a speed dating event right before Valentine’s Day and that’s when everything goes awry. Rick is a steady man that doesn’t pressure Heather for anything other than what she is willing to give. Neil on the other hand is deceitful and devious tricking Heather. Will Heather complete the rite and come into her power with Neil? What about Rick?
This book was such an amazing read! It was so much more than expected based on the blurb! It was quick and well written with great characters that are easy to connect with. I was instantly invested in Heather’s life and couldn’t turn pages fast enough to see what happens next! I really enjoyed the storyline, it was perfect combination of magic and steamy BDSM scenes, sprinkled with a bit of darkness. Rick was simply delicious and I liked how patient he was with Heather. I definitely recommend this one and can’t wait to read more from Ms Faye!
There’s magic in the air, or at least, there would be if Heather would get off her butt and complete The Rite. Then everyone would be happy and powerful. Except for one. As someone who enjoys stories with witches and warlocks, this story was absolutely amazing. I don’t think there was a single part to the story that I didn’t enjoy. From the Rite to the Valkyrie to Rick (swoons). This story begins on a slightly dark note, dips way down, and then gradually builds into something that’s light with laugh out loud moments and the happily ever after is so sweet, I’m still smiling.
I wasn’t expecting so many things about this book! I'm generally not a reader of this genre but I loved it so much. The writing flowed beautifully, the plot twisted (I thought I had things worked out, but no, surprise!), and the characters were diverse and well-developed. To me, it started slowly but once the pace picked up, it stayed there. I enjoy the author’s smooth, flowing writing style. A great read, with love, action, comedy, and otherworldly elements.
I received a copy of this book. My honest review is voluntarily provided
WOW! I am not sure what I was expecting, but just WOW!!! I was pulled in right away by the premise. Then my stomach was on edge thinking, how could this possibly end well?? Poor Heather!?! How would Ms. Faye possibly resolve this in any sort of way that wouldn’t end in death and general magical ugliness? I stayed sucked in, on the edge of my couch, to the very last word. And of course there is all the yummy sexiness you expect from Ms. Faye. Seriously, one-click now. You will not be disappointed.
This is the first book I've read by this arthur and I very much enjoyed this story. This is a story of Heather Pritchett coming into her powers and karma. When a Pritchett witch gets to be a certain age to get their powers they have to do something that Heather doesn't want to do. This book will have you flipping pages to find out what Heather's going to do and if she'll do it or not, but karma always has a way of working it's way into what you do. I'm looking forward to reading more from this arthur.
This was my first Witchcraft and Warlock story and I absolutely loved it. It was super intense and not what I was expecting at all but so much more and thinking oh god this is bad and not going to end well at all. I loved Heathers character and Ricks so much more, they were perfection and so accepting of each other even though Heathers family of witches are crazy. The writing keeps you so engaged in this story and the words just suck you right in.
I wouldn’t usually pick up this book based on the blurb, but I think this qualified as more of a dark romance in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I became invested in Heather’s world right away and wanted to experience and learn everything I could about her. The dark elements and the magic fit in perfectly without being too far-fetched or over the top. It definitely expanded my horizons and thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This book is well written and allowed me to escape to a paranormal world that is much like our own. There are some with power that abuse it and use it to intimidate, and others who find their power to be a burden.
Cassandra Faye has a wonderful ability to combine the paranormal with steamy, dark, and BDSM elements to create happily ever afters while giving the reader a much needed break from reality. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I initially read this when it was titled The Rite. This is different than many of her other works but still enjoyable. This is a shorter story but still kept my interest. My magic side loved reading a book with witchcraft. Add in this author's fantastic BDSM and the story got even better. I just wanted it more fleshed out because there was so much potential to be even more, especially as it is a very unique storyline.
Everyone complains about their families, but after reading this, I don't think I can complain about mine. Heather has some serious issues that are out of this world. There were so many parts of this story I loved. The way Rick could wind her up until she was speechless, the magical abilities of all the women in the family, Michael's calm acceptance. I read this a couple of times, and each time it only got better.
4 1/2 stars A tough choice leads the starring character to make decisions which aren’t necessarily popular with her family in this latest book from an author who has crafted many dark twists to her stories. This book is no different. It is captivating by the twists and by the darkness surrounding the lead characters. The villains are well crafted and believable in their dangerous vibes. The story held my attention from the very beginning until the last word was read.
I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t sure what to expect and l was very pleasantly surprised! The storyline was very cleverly written with a plot twist that you do not see coming! Heather is a great character, and she is forced into a situation that she can’t see her way out of. But in true Jennifer Bene fashion, just when you think you know where this story is going, it grabs you and throws you in a different direction altogether! Loved it!
