A woman without a name. A man that wants to help her remember. A past that’s willing to kill to stop them both.
Left for dead on a mountain with no memory, Jane Doe will try anything to figure out the mystery behind her identity, even if that means walking back into a dangerous life.
When the police run her prints, and she’s wanted for questioning in a federal crime, the clock starts ticking to figure out details of who she is if she doesn’t want to spend her future behind bars.
Nick Bennett knows a thing or two about amnesia and how to help people remember. As a shrink, he understands that sometimes the most painful memories are the ones that try to stay buried deep.
With Nick’s help putting the pieces of her puzzling past back together, they’ll have to move fast to uncover the truth before the killer gets a second chance, and this time tries to silence them both.
This is the third book of the series and features Nick Bennett, who is a mental health professional. Like the other Bennett's, he has a unique gift. His is he can make people remember things. His assignment is to find out who the mysterious woman is who'd climbed out of the Devil's Pit where she'd been left for dead among bones and debris. She's traumatized, has no idea who she is, how she got there--her memory is waxed.
Nick really didn't get to use his gift like the others had in previous books, but it was all right. He used it once and discovered a lot, but she asked for more. He was still the man on the scene and went out on a limb to help her regain her memory.
Parts of this book were really sad. Ann Carter had been through more than she'd ever imagined and had been betrayed by someone close to her. *No Spoilers* Nick was really shiny and maybe a bit too trusting too fast in my opinion, but considering who his sister is (Clara) and how she knows things, maybe he was trusting her more than anyone else. Clara had never steered him wrong.
For this book being so short (I had it read in just a couple of hours), it packed a punch. It was intriguing, kept me guessing, and had a beautiful ending that had me choked up.
This earns an easy, easy five stars.
And I love the cover. I'm a self-proclaimed cover snob and I do sometimes judge books by their covers. This one hit a sweet spot with me. I can visualize the guy on the cover being Nick with no trouble.
Just as a disclaimer, I am swayed to buy a book by the cover. It does not affect my review. My reviews are based solely on the content of the story.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
**Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
Nick is a psychiatrist with a special advantage of being able to read minds. Ann was found lost on the mountain with no memory. As they slowly work towards restoring her memory, they are attracted to each other. Stolen money, death of her little girl, attempted murder and love, make for an Interesting suspenseful read !!!
This is the 3rd book in Kate Allenton’s “The Other Bennett” series. It was really good, even though it was a little on the shorter side. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
This is my third series by KA and I am still finding them very enjoyable. While mystery and suspense are typically not my genres, I love the introduction of the paranormal aspects to the characters.
