Crazy for the Heat: Arizona Tales of Ghosts, Gumshoes, and Bigfoot

Rate this book
Arizona is full of wonders and weirdness, and surprises at every turn. In the sunbaked desert, visitors pull off the highway to admire the World’s Largest Ball of Chest Hair. A throwback private detective cracks wise and solves cases in the mountaintop moonlight of Jerome after tourists have gone home. Meanwhile, a group of Sedona residents can’t step outside without getting abducted by space aliens. This collection of twisted stories springs from the mind of award-winning writer Roger Naylor. It features an unlikely cast of characters that include the headless ghost of Pancho Villa, a vengeance-seeking six-year, Elvis Impersonators, a Tombstone bartender who singlehandedly caused the West’s most legendary shootout, double-crossing dames, nosy pants-less neighbors, and the Mogollon Monster, better known as Bigfoot. Along with the laughs, readers will learn about Arizona history and marvel at the diverse natural beauty. This is a loving but skewed portrait from Arizona’s preeminent travel writer and a master storyteller. Each tale drops you into a different town or lonely corner of the Grand Canyon State, and then turns you loose on a fast-paced journey through some unexpected delights.

FANTASTIC! I would read one story at a time and look forward to the next. I had to space it out so it would not be over too soon. I sure hope Roger Naylor continues to write like this. I will read every one. I Love that they are all in Arizona and add fantasy to fact. Lots of fact and each one designed to the city they are placed in.
