Kylie Moore thrives on competition.

The only thing she hates more than losing is Spencer Cahill. Not only does he have a knack for getting under her skin, but he's part of a past she'd rather forget.

Rival bicycle shop owner Spencer Cahill loves a challenge.

The only thing better than winning the bid for the City Bike Program? Co-winning it with Kylie. The only thing worse? Having to accept her help when an injury forces him to the sidelines.

Will working together rekindle something from their past? Or will the sparks destroy any hope for their future?

If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romantic comedies, you'll go crazy for GEARING UP. Because love is bumpy. Might as well enjoy the ride.

3.5 stars actually!!!

Cute love story!

Kylie and Spence are bike store competitors with a past history. They are thrown back to working together for a city project and so the story proceeds.

The author does a great job with the characters and the humor throughout the book... I found myself laughing out loud a few times. Their respective families are equally as great.

The ending is some what predictable but was still enjoyable. Quick easy romantic read!!!

Thank you Hidden Gems for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was fun and funny, but I didn’t find it quite as light-hearted or sweet as the previous one. We’d gotten to meet Kylie and Spencer in the first book, so I was interested in finding out more about what made them tick, what made them the antagonistic pair they are now. I thought the reason behind their original break-up and Kylie’s continued bad attitude with Spencer was weak and poorly explored. I realize they were young, but it didn’t feel organic to this story. Spencer comes off as a bit of an alpha-hole and I thought Kylie spent a lot of time being a hypocrite. Even though the leading couple weren’t my favorite characters in the book, their supporting cast were fantastic. It was worth the read for Spencer’s Gramps alone. Add in the rest of the family, friends, and employees, and it made for a wacky, quirky community that I kind of fell in love with. I’m curious to see what else the author has in store for us.

This story is not as laugh-out-loud funny as its predecessor, but it does have some snort-worthy moments. Kylie and Spence have been dancing around each other, hating each other, competing against each other, for years, but due to an overabundance of competitive spirit on both sides, suddenly find themselves in close quarters. Oh yes, the old forced-proximity trope is in full bloom. The two being who they are, this cannot be a straightforward path, and I really appreciate that the enemies-to-lovers aspect does not die down the moment they get together. Neither character has gotten a personality transplant, and what makes them good together is that they understand each other far better than most people get either one of them. There’s plenty of love to be found, but not a lot of gooshy stuff. It’s nice that Lauren and Jake, as well as the rest of the “family” (both blood and found), play an important role and add to the comedy that is Kylie and Spence’s romance. This book was a great, fast read where most of the conflict came from the characters of the participants, but in a very realistic way. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review.

Jellyfish have no spines

I really liked the first book in this series, and while the second-chance aspect of Spencer/Kylie should be right in my wheelhouse, Spence is the kind of character that I loathe, which fuels dislike for Kylie, who I kept hopelessly hoping would grow a spine and stop letting Spence walk roughshod all over her.

For the life of me, I do not get why women give men who neg on them the time of day. Further, I hate it when authors depict female business owners as hobbyists. Kylie inherited her father’s company. It’s supposed to be her passion and she doesn’t bother to show up for work half the time. Two books in and I honestly don’t know what Kylie does other than sing karaoke. Lauren and Jake do all the actual work. Plus the business has been in the family for 72 years, so why do they owe a $30k balloon payment on a business loan? Maybe if Kylie had a job, she would be interested in making the place successful and have something to do with her life other than chase Spence around, begging him for attention.

Sweet, sexy, sassy and satisfying!
From the gorgeous cover to the final page, I loved this book! It is a light, easy breezy summer read but with enough depth to make it worthwhile. This is the second book in the series and whilst it could be read as a standalone, I think reading them in order fills out the characters and their situation.
Moving from enemies to friends to lovers is not without its challenges for Spence and Kylie. Things get interesting when he gets injured and she steps in to take care of him, as these two battle their conflicting emotions. I enjoyed seeing them grow as individuals and as a couple.
Overall this is a quick read that will have you chuckling along especially with the Hormone Hussies and Gramps!

Not as good as other Beck romances I've read🙄

I have enjoyed several of the author's works and liked the wit and humor of her romances including Changing Gears, this story's predecessor, but this one just never did it for me. I guess I am not a big fan of heros and heroines facing off in a battle of one upmanship🤔.

The writing style is fine but I could not feel much sympathy for the competitive leads. And the eventually-revealed reason for their earlier break-up while in school seemed weak. To me, the heroine is prickly but a pushover and the hero a bit smug until he faces trouble with his bike business.

I would recommend Beck's Love Hurts series which I really liked.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

I really enjoyed the banter between Kylie and Spence. Clearly the two of them still have feelings for each other after having broken up in college. They both are trying to run bicycle shops in the same town and that provides a lot of fuel for their competitiveness. Being forced to spend more time together makes them rethink the possibility of making things work between them. I think all of this bickering between them is all just a ton of foreplay. Will misunderstandings from the past and the present derail their future together? This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really liked it. The ending was super cute! I did receive a copy from Hidden Gems Books and this is my honest review.

In Gearing Up, Kylie and Spencer both love the movie The Princess Bride. That may be the only thing they agree on! Kylie and Spencer were college sweethearts until Kylie left. Kylie has hated Spencer since then - especially after he opened a competing (and more successful) bike shop in their small town. There is a lot of funny dialogue and sparks fly - especially after Kylie is forced to help Spencer when he is injured. You do not want to miss the wacky family members as you come along for this romance!

I enjoyed every minute of this fun romance by new-to-me author Roseanne Beck with characters you feel like you know and a well written story that was funny and emotional and had me hanging onto every word. I really didn't want the book to end when I got to the last page. I loved the attraction, undeniable chemistry and repartee between Kylie Moore and Spencer Cahill. If you enjoy smartly written romantic comedy, don't miss "Gearing Up", book two in the Shift Into Love series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

5/5 snort-laughing "Best. Dinner. Ever." stars

I love a good second-chance romance, and in this case it's also frakkin' hilarious. :) This wonderful story made me laugh (a lot), cry (a little), and now I want to adopt every single crazy member of this extended family. Except for Gramps maybe, his level of crazy is way above my paygrade...

Unlimited bonus points for the Princess Bride references. <3

A second chance romance about Kylie and Spencer, they used to date back in college with things ending in a bad way so now they compete at everything.
It was cute but it wasn't great either, the characters weren't likable.
I'm voluntarily reviewing this after receiving a free copy from Hidden Arcs.

KYlie and Spencer dated in college but it didn’t work out. But they are always competing against each other, in soccer, in karaoke even with their bike shops in town. But they really hate each other or their feelings are stronger than they think? A funny and sweet love story.

I got bored, really...I finished to know what happen in the book, but it was so stupid the attitude of both characters/. Sorry! The book was well written, but it did not have any funny thing. Sorry!

Love it, too!

Roseanne is my kind of quirky. Gets my funny bone every time. Tickles in this book include "tornado tongue" and "nutcrackers". (You'll have to read it yourself to get the references.)

Spencer and Kylie used to date and now they are thrown together again and not just because they own the only two bike shops in town. Cute easy read and I liked the characters. The movement of the book was fast and kept your interest. Thank you HiddenGems for the book

It took me a few chapters to get into Roseanne Beck's "Gearing Up," mostly because it felt like I was starting in the middle of a story. It is the second book of Beck's Shifting into Love series and appears to pick up right where the first one ("Changing Gears") left off. I haven't yet read the first book, and there wasn't much in the way of context or backstory provided for some of the characters and events referenced in the early chapters of book #2. For this reason, it's probably best to read the series in order, though readers are unlikely to feel completely lost by starting here.

I'm glad I stuck it out through those early chapters because I really liked main characters Spence and Kylie, whose banter frequently made me chuckle. Kylie was determined to see Spence as her enemy, but I don't think he ever saw her the same way. They were very cute and funny together, and I found it easy to root for them to work through their differences.

The book's supporting characters were just as much fun as Kylie and Spence themselves. I particularly enjoyed Spence's employee Knox, who was always telling stories about his acid trips, Spence's grandfather, who tried to give him advice about women, and Kylie's Uncle Pete and Aunt Sheila, who acted as surrogate parents for Kylie and her sister.

Overall, "Gearing Up" was a cute, sweet story that I would recommend for fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I would read more of this author's work in the future.
