The class divide still exists in the future, and it has gotten much worse. There are many different types of worlds, from the paradise worlds where everyone is immortal, to the resource depleted, war-torn planets where every day is a struggle just to live.

Freya O'Malley grew up on Earth, the worst of the war-torn planets, and wants nothing more than to leave. With few options, Freya joins the Federation Marines. But, unlike the past, it's a struggle to earn enough enlistment points to stay in. With the prize of a citizenship on a paradise world at stake, competition is fierce. Every week is a new war. Can Freya earn enough points in the constant warring of the Marines to modify her body and mind to stay competitive? Can a girl from the wrong planet make it against those who have all the advantages?

Posting every Friday. Chapters will be roughly 4k-10k words.

За пръв път видяхме управляеми дронове да се включват във военни действия в късните етапи на войната на САЩ в Ирак (дето взелият Нобел за мир президент Обама стана и президентът, заповядал бомбардировки в най-много страни за своите мандати - 9). След това имахме шанса да гледаме и първите кадри от такива дронове, в конфликта на Армения с Aзербайджан. Днес украинците ползват такива срещу руснаците и видео от самите дронове може да се намери в интернет.

(военен дрон е нещо като дистанционно управляем малък самолет, въоръжен с ракети, няма общо с домашните хоби-дронове с размер на пица)

Без изобщо да говорим за изкуствен интелект, "дистанционната" война между управляеми от хора машини е обсъждана многократно в научната фантастика и е интересно какво ще ни покаже бъдещето в този смисъл.

Digital Marine е отлично започващ и продължаващ след първите глави прогресивно все по-скучновато сериал за бъдещето на войната, в който военните структури са по-скоро децентрализирани откъм дисциплина и мотивацията на войниците се осигурява чрез "игрови" интерфейс, а бойните действия - чрез дистанционно управляеми от войниците техни заменяеми клонинги.

Great Read of ~1900 Pages or 123 Chapters. Unfortunately the Author disappeared in January 2022 and has yet to reappear and finish the book. Luckily we don't currently end on a huge cliffhanger, but instead on more of an outlook you might find at the end of a book.

At times the chapters are litered with typing errors and sometimes missing words. But further into the book it gets much better, as more people did proofreading and editing.

Digital Marine is as described - protagonist Freya O'Malley is joins the Federation Marines with the prize of a citizenship on a paradise world at stake, so there is a lot of combat in this Virtual Reality Space Opera/Military SF work in progress (on hiatus now).

Well written, detailed and enjoyable. A solid piece of work that I liked a lot more that I expected.

I thought I wouldn't care so much for a purely virtual soldier character but I was wrong. He's done a great job.

Kinda parsed this as a thrill-kill novel initially, which isn't my speed, but he writing was decent, and the story got serious over time. Ended up pretty darn happy with it. (double hit for read dates is catching up on RR for what's available of book 2)
