Rate this book
Lace Grayweave has come to the Capitol to fulfill her dream of selling her own special brand of clothing. Known as a spellweaver, she weaves magic into the fabric of every garment she makes. A stop in a tavern finds her in the arms of a brooding stranger with mystery swirling around him. Raven came to the tavern to escape his brother and the woman who'd scorned him. A royal wedding is never just a private affair. Worse still, as a member of the Shadows, Raven is expected to protect the Empire from its enemies, both within and without. Will he be able to do that when a certain dress-maker weaves her way into his heart? On a dark and stormy night, two people come together in the most unlikely of circumstances. Will they weather the winds of royalty and politics or will the spectre of betrayal unravel them?

This is one of the books I picked up at the Rose City Romance Conference and it was such a pleasure meeting Gayle and chatting with her about her books. What really drew me in to this story was the magical link to textiles and threads - being into needlework of all kinds myself, I was very excited about this concept.
The story is well told, although a little more explanation around the magic would have been helpful. And now...when is the sequel coming out! I want more of Lace and Raven.

I got this at a book event in Ottawa and it was AMAZING! Such a creative premise and great world building. It’s short and sweet, I gobbled it up in two days! The romance starts fast and furious and builds into a beautiful relationship, and the mystery is so intriguing!
